I'm not that good in imagining things so i prefer the movie better than the book. Although i know that they change a lot in making the movie from the book, i still prefer the movie. I like to see what peter jackson's views are when he adapted it.

I think it depends on the genre of the book/movie. I think action movies with a lot of visual effects could be better than their book but for other genres, I prefer the books. Even in very successful movies, i still prefer the book. Maybe it is because they actually give you a compressed version of the book in around 2 hours. when you read the book it might take from maybe 3-4 days to even more than a month to finish the book during which you are all the time thinking about the plot and the characters and the story line. you wonder what will happen. As you said, you will have imagination. it is more likely that you will still think about the story few days or even weeks after you finish the book depending on how it had impressed you. But in movies, such impressions happen less. Of course, there are movies that might be as effective on you as the book.

I have seen Harry Potter and P.S I Love You movies after I read the books. And did not like the movie much. Many integral parts which were there in the book were of course missing in the movie, and since we knew this it was not enjoyable. Some of my friends claimed that they had liked the movie, preferably because they had not read the book. After reading the book we make our own imagination, and when the movie does not fit into it, we get disappointed.

I think this phenomena is very normal, maybe movie and boos are two so different way to exhibit the story. As reading book, it will remain big space for us to image. And the movie is just base on the actor and the background to show! By this way, we get the information from two different way, so as we watching the movie, base on the book, will touch the different feeling. And it hard to say which is better, because which you first meet, will give you a steady impression.

For me, the book was much better than the movie because it has more details. The sequence of the scenes in the movie are different from the book. However, if I don't have the time to read the book version, I'd rather watch the movie.. ^^

That happens to me. I was thrilled when I learned that they made a movie out of "the shining." loved the book so much. How disappointed I was when I saw it. There were people in the theater laughing. When they made a tv movie, it was in two parts and they were able to include more and plus Stephen King had a hand in the script. But it's natural for a book to be better than the movie because a movie is only 2 or 3 hours long. So in the movie, they have to decide what parts of the story is important. Yet, some movies actually do a pretty good job and on rare occasions, the movie is even better. My girlfriend agrees with about books and movies. She said a good example of a movie being better than the book is "the burning bed." I sometimes feel sorry for people who don't like reading because they are missing so much.

I don't really understand what you mean in your first sentence. Do you mean there are many movies based on the Lord of the Rings books or that there are many movies based on books as famous as Lord of the Rings? Because there really aren't that many movies based on the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I only know of two other than the famous Peter Jackson ones. Neither of which I thought was very good. I got into Lord of the Rings after seeing the first movie, so I read the books after I saw the movies. I liked the books, and I thought they were great in their own right. I think Tolkien is a genius creating such an amazing and vivid world. But they were kinda long and boring. I'm a huge reader, and I believe books are better than movies, but having seen the movies first I really enjoyed them more. They're different, but I don't think one is better than the other.
