Actually it is an old craft, it has been widespread among the Sami people since the 1600s - Tin Wire Embroidery It looks more difficult than it is - it was really fun and I made my first bracelet of leather and tin wire. If you wish to see how it looks like, do a search with the Swedish word Tenntrådsbroderi - I could not put any link here since it could be taken as an affiliate link. The only pictures I found was in shops that sell the material for this special craft. This craft is very special and there doesn´t seem to be enough teachers. So this could be an interesting job for someone who likes this kind of work.

What an interesting sounding craft! I love it! It sounds so exotic. You will definitely have to show us a photo of your bracelet when you finish with it! Since there aren't that many teachers in the craft do you think you would be interested in teaching it and bringing the craft back? You should be so proud of yourself for trying such a new (and old) craft! Purrs, Catwoman=^..^= & Mija

I have no digital camera yet and have only made one item, a simple bracelet, but check this link, it is not an affiliate link http://www.tenntradssmycken.se/tenn_galerie.html These are only a few things you can make with this method.

Thanks, Jen - It is an advantage to live here - near the Arctic Circle and near the Sami people - they have many interesting crafts, using products from reindeers and other things from the nature. The buttons for shutting the bracelets are usually made of reindeer horns - very exotic..

That sounds pretty cool. I always liked making jewelry, even when I was little I would make bracelets out of beads and plastic 'thread'. We used to make pins that were made out of safety pins with beads on them. The big thing now is going to shops that have 100's of different kinds of beads and stringing and making your own necklace, but that can be kinda pricey

Kids have a great gift, imagination, and we tend to lose it later in life. It is a good thing we can develop some of it back by just going on being creative!!

This sounds wonderful Buenavida. You must take pictures as you learn and share them with us. I have never heard of this craft before. You have given me something new to look into and potentially learn. I have been trying to figure out the telephone wire baskets of South Africa for many years. I know how to make coiled baskets but I have not learned (that is, figured out) how to change color and make patterns the way they do. Have you seen the baskets? When you feel you have mastered this technique you must start writing about it. I am the hobbies and games channel steward at helium and I will be waiting for your first article!
