The American president Obama had generated a lot of curiosity before the presidential elections. The Bush administration faile dto deliver what was expected from them and so USA elected Barack Obama. The very first thing that Obama witnessed after assuming office is the depression.A few years have passed since he was elected the president of USA.How will you rate him.IS he better than George Bush or worser than him?How can he fare better and what are the things that he needs to do?

Better "politician"? Very tough. But I have to say it's Bush. He was elected twice and did not polarize the country this much. Bush's opposition was nastier than Obama's, in fact, and there were certainly more collective protests, harsher rhetoric, more conspiracies and more of the mainstream media opposing Bush, but more of the folks were on his side with only the left and elite opposing by and large. And before anyone disagrees, I'm taking this in the context of Bush's entire 8-year tenure and not simply the last two years when things really, really, really nasty and everyone started to turn away. For Obama, he's only going on two years, so it's a tough call to make. Now, Obama plays "politics" a lot better than Bush, but he's unable to sway the masses while in office like he did while campaigning. That counts.

There's kind of a three-sided coin going on with Bush. Some folks approved of his policies, his personality and his poise under pressure, among other things that start with P that my mind can't pull up at 6am. Some folks disapproved of his presidency because he proved to be just like other partisan presidents past following his "decided" agenda and not really willing to play ball in the middle of the field. I'm on this side. I like Bush, but I don't approve of his presidency. Some folks absolutely despise Bush to the point of painting "KILL BUSH" signs, making movies about his assassination, writing about killing him, calling him Hitler very, very often, etc. Even liberal politicians were setting up rallies calling him a liar and worse. I'm not sure what everyone's doing today in 2010, but I vividly remember America's atmosphere during the latter years of Bush, and he was opposed a heck of a lot more than our current president - and was opposed most vehemently by those claiming today's dissenters are racists and right-wing terrorists. So to folks on that side of the Bush coin, I have only one thing to say: Bush owns you! I've seen you around on myLot for a whle now, JB, not necessarily sticking up for America's current president, but pointing out that a lot of people unfairly make mountains from mole hills and blast him with the water hose constantly. Bush got this far worse. Every problem in the world is tied back to Bush from the haters' lips to some progressive's ears. It's like a game they play. It's like they feel power by being able to attack relentlessly. Obama's starting to get it, and might eventually get more of it, but even Palin (YES! That just happened!) gets it worse than big O. And to put a point on it: I agree with you that Bush was a lot smarter than folks gave him credit for, and I think he even played into that "dumb" persona simply to give more of a for-the-folks apperance. Bush is, for all intents and purposes, an elitist. But he plays folksy like no other. And one thing that I do give him credit for during his presidency: I never once heard him attack fellow politicians or the media despite how they constantly tore him to shreds in everything from the New York Times to weird fiction hybrid Michael Moore donkumentaries. Our current president can really take a lesson there. He earns my favorite Christopher Walken quote: "The rest of us really are suckers."

i think bush was actually craftier than many gave him credit for - i know there were lots of jokes doing the rounds about his iq and of course the endless malapropisms but i suspect a lot of people actually found these endearing and down to earth. he was not a stupid man and i am sure could have avoided doing this if advised to.

Who was the better politician? Hands down it's Obama. You should know however that it isn't a compliment. Although I have no love for bush, Obama is definately a smoother, slicker politician. Bush was one himself, just not as smooth or slick. Honetly, I'm tired of politicians, my country needs to go back to electing public servants, not politicians.

me and laglen came up for a way for politicians finally to be useful - by generating electricity in giant hamster wheels. plus it keeps them fit. i'd be very happy to see for example blair at long last doing something productive, i am sure obama and bush could do the same.

Hi xfahctor it appears that you are swayed by the personality of Obama and you dislike Bush..indeed the way he behaved is really distasteful. However don't you think that it is too early to make a judgement of Obama as a politician..maybe there will be slip ups in his rank just like bush..howver even I support Obama and thanks for your response.

Hi jb you are right friend that the politicians need to do something productive..however I think that if they are asked to generate electricity then they will either make a mess of it or they will try to form trade unions and become leaders by instigating others and then only indulge in attending meetings with the management. Thanks for your response.

Naxous, A politician will make any promise necessary to get your vote, but feels no obligation to keep promises made. A politician plays off people's emotions, understanding that many people vote based on emotions rather than good judgment. What's most important is getting reelected, so promise them anything. It's himself first, party second, constituents third, and maybe the country fourth. A statesman is wise in the ways of government and will do what's best for the country even if decisions made are unpopular and could cost him his job, or even if he's maligned by naysayers. A statesman loves his country beyond the now and makes decisions based on how the country will be affected now and in the future.

Indeed Obama appears to have a better personality than Bush. However we need to judge politicians by their acts and not according to their looks.I agree that it is too early to say that Obama is better is worse than Bush but even in these days he hadn't done anything noteworthy except maybe the health bill.Let's hope that he will fare better during the remaining years of his tenure.

Hi Naxous, I have to say that I don't think either one of them is all that great. I would not rate one better than the other. If we get a president in office that is honest and actually follows thru on promises to our country then maybe I could answer these questions. It's been a long while since we've had a president in office that I've felt good about. I actually did come to think Clinton wasn't half bad.

You've actually asked two questions, & the answers to both depend on how you define "politician." If you mean who is a better President, meaning who has kept the vow to uphold the Constitution, listen to the people, & make America better? That's Bush. If by "politician" you mean who's better at making speeches & organizing a machine & keeping his base happy, but no-one else (the majority), then it's President "Alinsky" Obama. He's the poster child of what most people think most politicians are, period. Bush fits the first definition hands down. He never was able to defeat the machine...never knew how to use it as Obama does, nor, to his credit, did he wish to. He refused to fight dirty, even when his own voters wished he'd put up his dukes, at least, to combat the lies & vicious slurs. But no, not Mr. Nice Guy! Sigh... President Bush did fit somewhat into the second category re his efforts to erase our borders (my chief complaint with him), but he was a good man, if a somewhat inept President. Too bad I can't say the same for the Alinsky-ite in the White House. Maggiepie EVERYONE! GO TRY THE NEW CATEGORY: Open Mike! ALL opinions WELCOME!

First, I must ask you what you think Bush failed to deliver? Second, Obama wasn't elected because Bush failed. Our Presidents are only allowed two terms in office and Bush had two terms. He is no longer eligible to run for the presidency. Obama defeated John McCain in the 2008 election, not George W. Bush. There's another problem with your statement. We do not have a depression. Many in the media have tried to talk us into a depression, but it hasn't worked. Now to your question. Obama has had a bit more than a year as President so it really isn't fair to compare him with anyone just yet. So far, though, he hasn't been very impressive. I understand he hasn't done a very good job of keeping his campaign promises. The mess everyone blames on Bush, Obama has made worse. He has gone to different nations and badmouthed the United States. He bows to our enemies and insults our friends. He has forced a health care policy on us that the majority of Americans said they didn't want. Unemployment has gotten worse under Obama rather than better. Obama's political party has the majority of the House and Senate and yet he's had trouble getting things done, but that's probable because they want the Republicans on board so if anything goes wrong they can blame them. I get the feeling he wants to take from those of us who have worked hard to make a life for ourselves and our families and give what we've earned to those who sit on their lazy butts doing nothing but cry about how cruel the world has been to them. One thing he does do well is read a teleprompter. And I must admit, he has a much nicer speaking voice than Bush. If Obama can get us out of Afghanistan with a victory, if he can lower the unemployment with legitimate jobs and not these make work jobs like FDR had during the depression, if he can solve the illegal emigration problem without making them citizens, if he can lower our taxes, if he can end welfare, and if he can improve the standards of our educational system, these things would help improve him in my estimation. I'm not holding my breath.

Your statement that America is not affected by the meltdown sounds to be a bit strange my dear friend.Maybe you are oblivious to the facts that are all around you.Haven't you seen people becoming homeless?Haven't you seen people losing their job and companies are filing for liquidation?Haven't you seen the unemployment rate increasing by leaps and bounds ?If all these are not signs of recession then my dear friend let me tell you that you don't know what recession is.It seems that you haven't been affected by the change in the economic situation and you are looking at things from your perspective.Still thanks for your response.

Can you please specify how much of a difference is there between a depression and a recession?Every business goes through a recession period my dear friend and it is absolutely normal.A business moves in cycles.Recession is generally followed by recovery and then again the business peaks. What we witnessed since the last couple of years is not recession but depression basically where firms started closing down and started to apply for insolvency. There are instances when the American Government thought of taking over the firms or nationalising them in order to save the country.May be the great depression of the 1930's wasn't repeated but it is a depression none the less. Now what do you think about a depression? Can you elaborate.

President Obama is by far the better politician then Bush could ever wish to be. President Obams has smarts, integrity and style. Bush had nothing but a father who was an ex- president. Bush could not speak or think on his feet at all. He was an embarrassment the way I saw the whole eight years. He was in my opinion the worse president since Nixcon. Remember Obama was left with a mess to clean up and it will take a long time for the damages that Bush caused to be rectified. I give President Obama an 80% rating.

Obama is making a bigger mess than this country was in when he walked into the White House. His health care is nothing short of a fiasco. I would rate his performance at minus 5 or lower for his first year in an office that he has yet to prove he is eligible to hold.

I would have picked Ronald Reagan. But give a choice of Bush or Obama, I would choose Bush and by a wide margin. First, yes Bush screwed some things up. The problem is Obama screwed them up worse. For example, the massive $400 Billion deficit under Bush. Now under Obama, it's a $1.4 Trillion dollar deficit. If fact, even the things Bush screwed up on, were things Obama supported. For example, the bank bailouts were awful. Yet Obama was a supporter of bank bailouts, and in fact voted in favor of the bailout as a senator. So everything that Bush did wrong, Obama has either made worse, or voted in favor of. How could Obama improve? Repeal the nightmare health care bill. End completely the bank bailout fund. Revoke the rest of the stimulus package. Cut spending. Reduce taxes. And end the ban on off shore drilling, so we don't have to import as much foreign oil. In short, stop being a socialist. Socialism always fails.

Because here in America, in many venues the word "politician" has become a perjorative, or dirty word, usually reflecting corruption, lying and deceiving, manuevering to benefit one's own power-mongering and greed, to outright criminality and gangsterism. Using that definition Obama is the far "better" politician. He is a sneaky, lying deceiver with a seared conscience and not even a nodding acquaintance with the truth. No one EVER has promised "transparency" and spent millions of taxpayer's hard-earned tax dollars to keep his vital records SEALED. This man is a monster. That being said, George Bush was a far better President. He really cared about people, was genuine and cried over people's losses. He stood for principles rather than popularity. Was he perfect- NO - nor was any President or leader anywhere in the world. Barack Hussein Obama is NOT an American president. He was not "duly" elected by an informed constituency and fair vote as he is NOT eligible legally or Constitutionally for the office he usurped. He is the lowest of the low in criminality and treason. He epitomizes the worst of the term "politician" and of the term "human being". There is nothing kind or genuine about him and he has a seared conscience, no morality. He hates America and spits on our Constitution. His allegience is elsewhere. Baarack Hussein Obama is a TRAITOR, the definition of those committing crimes against the Constitution. The only thing he NEEDS to do is surrender himself to authorities for removal to jail, deportation, or some just consequence for the many crimes he has committed against innocent people and the citizens of America and the world.

I give Obama an 8. He is doing everything he can do. He is trying to fulfill his promises. Bush was a bad president. Bush ended his term with the depression mess he left. People said it was coming and Bush did not find it important. George Bush started war in Iraq. What was up with that? Bin Laden is in Afghanistan or Pakistan and NOT in IRAQ. If you don't have a loved one alive today, blame it on BUSH. Obama is in the right track to recovery. It is a shame he has to deal with this mess. I honestly don't think its possible to fulfill all his promises in this term. I think Obama needs one more term to fix this mess. Republicans are conservatives and war freaks. Democrats are the opposite. It is about time that Democrats take control. Obama, Good job. If you don't see results, blame it on those Republicans who are wasting time and tax payer's money.
