How much would you eat when you feel depress or unhappy?

There are many things that people will do when they feel depress or unhappy.Shouting,crying,keep playing computer games,sleeping, shopping like crazy,and many many more.One worse thing of that would be keep on eating.There is nothing wrong with eating if people are hungry.However,when a person is depress and unhappy,the way that person eats will be quite abnormal.By abnormal,I mean they will eat more than they suppose to and always keep on eating even they are not hungry at allI am sure many people will have experience like that or may be you are one of this people at the moment.Share with us.

There was a time in my life where I would do nothing but eat and eat and eat when I was depressed. However, that time in my life is passed. Now when I am feeling depressed, eating is honestly the last thing that is on my mind. When I am going through a period in my life when I am dealing with depression I am able to go for days on end without eating. I have learned that food isn't going to help me through those tough periods and I ended up going from one extreme to the other when it comes to food and depression.

Well, Dorann. Looks like you really like this topic or you want to post more because you have made two posts on this page already. I like to eat whether I am depress or not and especially when I am under stress, I will eat more. Many yeras ago ,I will eat more when I feel depress but now I really have to watch my diet even when I still feel like to eat while I feel depress. My health cannot afford to eat more than I supoose to.Perhaps I am getting older now and I really have to watch my weight. Frankly speaking, it is easy to get fat than to be slim.If anybody jsut want to get fat, eating will be your anwser for that. But if anyone wants to keep fit, reduce your eating habit is just not enough. It is because you still have to do lots of exercise. As I grow older , I feel that to reduce weight is extremely difficult and it really take a lot of effort to see just a little result. Well,the food surelt taste good.But whenever I think that more food means poor health, then I hav eto really control myself even I don't feel like it. When I see so much people resulted in apoor health and end up staying in the hospital and become a burden of the family, I really have to develop my self-control ability regarding to this eating habit.I hope that w all can live with good health.Have a nice day.

In answer to your question to a point I might eat more. But if I get in one of my Major Depressive Episodes I almost completely lose my appetite. The first time I had one of these episodes in 3 months I lost about 30lbs. and before I lost the weight I was in the 140's at almost 5'6". But in those 3 months I mainly lived off of poptarts. I had 1 in the morning and I then was not hungry again until around dinner time when I had another one. And that was about all I ate. I was not Anorexic, I just had absolutely no appetite. Now, when I get depressed I will force myself to eat something (and my husband makes sure too). Other than that I will surf a lot on the net or play on facebook or something when depressed.

i am a little fat girl.when i am unhappy,i love eating more than normal.later,i learned that it is not good for our health to eat too much.and from that i read novels instead of eat.but i am a little fat because i love delecious food very much.oh...how to do with me!

I tend to eat a lot of food regardless if I'm depressed or not. However, when I do start falling into my depression again I notice that I gravitate more towards bread foods and occasionally sweets. Bread foods are really easy to grab, don't upset my stomach, and let me go to sleep shortly after I eat them. I also look for my comfort food--mashed potatoes.
There are times when I'm depressed that actually I don't eat anything at all. Or I end up forgetting to eat because I'm so focused on my sadness I don't remember anything at all. It really varies for me.

yeah im agree with you wild,when im depress i will eat more and more to compensate my depression..just to forget my problem..yeah i know its abnormal but i cant stop myself not to do it again..

Many years ago the more unhappy I felt, the more I would eat. This led to eating in between meals and sometimes late into the night and I started to do even when I was not unhappy! I discovered that the more I ate the more I wanted to eat - happy or unhappy - and I became overweight and unhealthy. It had to stop.
Fortunately I am a therapist and I understand these things and how to deal with them. I had to stop, so I created a commitment to myself only to eat at mealtimes at first. Then I committed to eat only 80% of what I felt I could eat. Gradually my appetite grew smaller and I lost all my excess weight.
I have since used this 80%-of-what-you-can-eat, technique with my clients and it is very effective. One adopts a permanent new way of eating - not a diet that is one day going to end. _Derek

dear wildlittlefan,
am happy. but when i get depressed, i eat a lot. i guess its an outlet for me especially when i could not have a person to talk with.
i know it is unhealthy so i am curving what i take in.

When I was a teenager, this was actually my number one coping mechanism when it came to depression. I would absolutely eat and eat and eat until there was nothing around to eat anymore. However, since I've grown older I've learned that there are far better ways to cope with depression. Now, the main way that I will cope with it is to exercise and I actually experience a loss of appetite. Still not the most healthy coping mechanism, but far better than what I used to do in the past.

Hi Wild,
when i am depress i just keep quite and not want to let other people get affected with what i am going through. then i take some sweet food to keep me up. i drink more juice and have cake or icecream. then i go to sleep and take some rest to feel better.

My moods do not affect my food cravings ha ha! I do eat anything I want whether I'm depressed or not! My eating habit has never been changed by any factors. Know what? I'm eating as I type my response now he he...Have a good day!
