Of course Villar is just hallucinating!Every time he mentioned to erase poverty, I would just laugh. How can he erase poverty?Nobody can erased poverty, it is part of any society, he cannot change it, though he can help it minimize but not totally eradicate. My God!even the richest nations in the world like the United States, France and Great Britain, poverty is rampant, in fact poverty in richest countries are worst than in the third world countries. Some of the ordinary people in these countries could not even afford to have house helpers compared to average Filipino couples. Philippines is not a fairyland which he can transform in instance.
Villar must dreaming a dream, an impossible dream, most of the poor detested him because of his too much "use" of the image of the poor when he did not know exactly how to solve the incurable disease of Philippine governance--corruption, maybe because he too is involved with corruption. I am not impressed with him. I would rather vote and believe to someone who declared commitment to democracy and freedom and determined to erase corruption to minimized poverty, this is more realistic.

Villar can't even answer issues and even bother to boycott the last session of the senate, if he can do that, what more if he becomes the president.

I do not think that you can eradicate poverty totally. I certainly do not think he is the answer to our problems. All he does is dodge questions about the issues raised against him saying that it has been answered in his website. I don't think his website can run the country. I certainly want my president to be accountable to me. Sadly though, he has discovered the weakness in our current political system. It's like Wowowee. They don't actually like Willie, but the money that he gives away (which is not even his but the network's) drives them to go there in droves and chant Willie's name. Villar's marketing is brilliant and well-prepared. He concentrated his efforts on the OFWs. Let's face it, who does not have a friend or relative OFW?

We don't have! Just to share, my mother always watch Wowowee only when Willie is the host so I am certain that some people actually like Willie not the money. Thank you for your response T.A.!

I'm not sure about his promises. Our country has a huge population, it's impossible to end up poverty.

hello sunkernjs,
No, most definitely not. How on earth he will do it if he doesn't even have a clear platforms and not to mention he back out on debates. so, from there how will you know if he is sincere with his intentions.
the guy can't even answer issues or go in debates, how can i be convinced that he can eliminate poverty? how?
research is the key my friend. don't be fooled by commercials. watch debates and interviews and see how they answer it. as for me, d*ck is the man!

I don't trust Manny Villar. He is too....cheesy. And if you look at how he makes alliances over the years, you have to think twice on his motives, both political and personal. Everyone knows that he was the senate president when Erap was ousted and that he suddenly grabbed the seal that indicated that the senate was still in session before those who were still loyal to Erap could do anything. Thus ensued EDSA2 and GMA became president. Now there are talks that he is the real candidate that GMA is supporting and not Gibo, their party candidate.
A president cannot kill poverty. But that president can do something in order to alleviate it by providing livelihood programs and try to eradicate corruption. It is also up to us, the common folk, to choose if we will end our poverty or not. If we just look at the president and expect him to do everything and we do nothing on our end, I don't think programs no matter how good or bad will make a difference. People are looking at the next president as some sort of a savior. For me, I don't perceive the next president as a savior but as an ally or partner that will help our economy by making sure that they do their jobs and those of government officials.

reading the title of this survey made me think of many villar already :)) he's using the POVERTY philosophy to sell himself to the masses. And here are a few reactions from my friends...these are funny reactions but deep insights as well. The fist one goes like this: "You don't have to be 'dating' poor (poor before) to be able to run the Philippines." definitely true! I hate the way He always had to use that reason for him to be able to run the Philippines. NExt one: "Why spend all that money for commercials, why dont he just donate them to the Philippines or other organizations to help the poor?" If you think about it, this makes sense right? He spent a lot of money for his commercials definitely!!! that would mean millions!! and yes, those millions would go a long way!! those millions would be able to build little clinics in those far provinces who are in dire need of healthcenters!!! When he becomes president, how would all those millions that he spent go back to him? As a businessman, the philosophy is invest for you to earn...so he invested...and how will he earn? right?? is politics becoming a business now???

I am not for Villar. I can't be with a Liar! I don't believe his promise because if he could end poverty then why was he unable to do that in his own locality where he was already able to build a political dynasty. Las Pinas is still not improving and poverty has not been alleviated in that place. How boastful of him to claim he could end poverty in the whole country. He must be kidding if not he must be losing his mind! And only those who are sick in the mind will believe this fellow.

Yes...I have seen the many commercials of Manny Villar that the main nature and theme is to eradicate poverty in our country. I agree that it is hard to eradicate poverty because there are so many poor people that really needs help. he might be able to do it to few people and help them but the rest will remain poor if they will not help their selves too.
If people will only wait for the governments help nothing will happen. If Villar make himself rich with out others help then maybe there's a little chance he could help the few of the citizens in our country to improve their lives for the better.
But then it's up to the poor people if they are willing to help themselves.

manny's life is like one of those in the movies... someone who came from poverty to become one of the most powerful people in the nation. i admire his life and how he worked hard to where he is now but that does not mean he can stop poverty. not an economist from the US can do it, not an actor who helps the poor can do it, not a general and no one can and that's the bottom line. every president and presidential candidate always promised the end of poverty. i believed GMA could do it before because of her degree but the best she could do is place huge banners all over the country saying " DAMDAM ANG KAUNLARAN!". believe me, there's no stopping poverty and even if we vote to the lesser evil with a "kapag walang corrupt, walang mahirap" propaganda (evil in a sense that they didnt do anything about hacienda luisita), it still wont solve poverty. it impossible to solve poverty it we think about it in reality.
i would prefer these candidates to stop lying about eradicating poverty because they know and we know theres no way to stop it and its just a way to trick people that there's a good life ahead if they vote for that candidate. i personally believe, and i bet i do, that manny villar is incapable of stopping poverty for obvious reasons.
you may not agree with me, but i think all current politicians are just marcos wannabees, able to grab a lot of money from the public. arroyo is doing a good job in doing so. (i would like to excempt aquino but he is already rich because he is a cojuangco after all and i think he can't do it as well.)

I don't think a president can do that, although the government really play a big role in the lives of the people. If people chose to be poor, they they'd be poor all their lives. If these poor people only dream to get out of poverty and work hard for it, they could. The governement can offer help, but their lives is still in their hands.

Yeah that probably is one question that is applicable to all presidential candidate because that seems to be their number one promise from their campaigns. But, of course that is a big tasks ahead that they will tackle once they are seated there. I really do not believe that they could kill poverty but lessen it if they are indeed sincere in their promises.

I think a president can put an end to poverty if HE is a good leader. We can't just trust those sweet words, promises and pledges they give. Most candidates running for presidency have hidden agendas. But if he'll be worst than our soon-to-be former president We'll be crushed.

Depends on the policy that the new president would implement. However, it's not just the president who would be eliminating poverty. The citizens of the country should change for the better good of the country.
In the case of Manny Villar, we all know that he's just saying that to win votes. If ever he would be eliminating poverty, he would not do it alone

A president of a country can greatly influence the eradication of poverty since he is the leader of the country however i believe that it starts in the the members of the family, the basic unit of the society. If everyone will do his share then we can definitely overcome poverty.
