the best freeware and software for mac?

With my old macbook i started to get interested in good freeware.I found a few which i liked much. But now i bought recently a new macbook and i want to have the best of the best software and freeware. Does anyone have some suggestions? I'm searching on the internet but i need to be sure i download the good stuff. Thanks for sharing!
