Im a voracious reader. been that way all my life. started reading like a third grader at 3yrs old. now i know that sounds like im really smart but im not. lots of things i dont know and cant do. like math, geography, sometimes i cant even spell as you've had occassion to see anyway, since a child i've been reading everything, cereal boxes, brand names on things, everything and anything. when im upset or excited, i will sit and read any words in front of me, even when they dont register.the night before Easter, i tried reading before sleep so i could be rested for the grand babies visit. couldnt do it. i read 3 pages before realising, i didnt know what id read...lol. i was so excited, it was going through my head what id fix to eat, what id do with the baby girl, etc..then theres been times when my heart was broken in the past or ive been so mad my blood pressure went crazy. same thing. try and read to calm down, get my mind settled. when i was a kid it worked. but no longer. i can still read several pages before i realise i dont know what ive read Do others experience this?

The ability to read words is a skill. The ability to put them together to have meaning is an abstract. Probably the same part of your brain need to get meaning out of stringing the words together was the same part that was excited over seeing your grandchildren. I hope you are having (or had) a great visit with them! When I'm either too excited or too tired I can read and not comprehand the meaning. I guess that's why television was invented...lol.

I think when the badges first come out that the games are easier. I did Canasta in under an hour. Now I'm working on Aces Up...not a favorite. I've been alternating playing one of those, with a game in Bing. Did you ever do that poll survey?

I have to have peace and quiet to read. No tv, no radio, no people! I can't concentrate with noise of any kind. M y daughter can have the tv, the radio, the kids running around and be working or reading NOT ME!!! If I am involved in something, then no I can't read, I will be like you realize I don't know a thing i have read.

its a good thing i wasnt like that. i would have never got a thing read when the kids were little. its emotions that distract me, not other normal things going on. im like your daughter in that respect, can still know everything going on around me while enjoying my story

I will not name names, but right now I am very upset at two members here at My Lot that think it's wonderful to make people feel like morons in front of others. I won't say who they are, but once I began reading the second reply one of the gentlemen wrote, I was about ready to throw my computer across the room in anger.

Oh, sorry, read your discussion again, and I am so sorry. This is not your fault. I just came out of another discussion read your prompt, and thought this about about the discussion boards. I am terribly sorry. No, when I am reading books I am usually excited because many of the books I read are pretty fascinating. I am sorry, bunnybon7, your cool, and I didn't mean to offend you like that. Contact me via messaging and I will tell you what happened.

Oh, yes! Even the most exciting and interesting page turners are nothing to me if I am stressed or up tight about something. Maybe if you tried meditating for afew minutes first and then read. Read about meditating evening. Or something spiritual. When you were a kid you probably weren't as stressed as you are now.

Meditation is not easy. It takes time to learn how to switch gears. There are different types also. Some are easier than others.

i think when we are kids its easier to switch gears in our minds. when i try meditating, it seems all i do is get even more excited or stressed because im still thinking of the same thing

it certainly happens. when reading, sometimes, the mind drifts while the eyes stay focused and keep on moving along the words in a book, even in a magazine, only to realize, after a while, that nothing is retained from what was supposed to have been already read. when that happens, better drop what you're reading and attend to what you are thinking about first before going back to the book or whatever you are reading... getting your mind settled is the first necessary step to getting it focused... especially in reading...

you are so right. it just agravates me when i have to face things in order to focus on other things, like reading

that's probably why we have the word focus in the dictionary... diversions take the mind away and cause some infractions in our comprehension and concentration... thanks for the response...

I'm like you. I was reading and discussing Poe at 6 and 7. I've always read, and occasionally my husband gets mad because I always have my face in a book. But there are times I just have too much on my mind, or am upset or excited and what I read just doesn't stick. Its frustrating, but when that happens I know its time to put the book down and focus my mind elsewhere.

You aren't alone in this boat because I've been in the same situation as you've described here. I will read the same page over and over again because my mind is in such an uproar. Also like you, I've been reading for as long as I can remember, I typically use it before I will go to sleep to help me to relax, but regardless of that, I read about one book a week and sometimes more than that. I read everything that I can, down to the ingredients in a bottle of shampoo occasionally.

When I were pupil times, I like to read many kinds of book, novel, love poem, short story and interesting magazine etc. I was moved by the sentiment from booking, even tears on my face. Now it's difficult to calm my heart to read, sometimes when I read about 1 hour, I don't know what to say, because I didn't read the book with my heart. Maybe the heart will effect the reading. I think so.

yep. some people honestly seem to grow out of wanting to read once they are out of school. being a big time reader and coming from such a family its very strange that out of 5 kids, only 2 really like reading.

Yes, I think it happens many times. But reading, in order to be truly fruitful and productive, must be given full concentration or focus. Words become useless when there is no focus.

I usually just go to sleep but when I am in school this kind of situation make me really frustrated especially when exam. Thanks got now I am finish my school now I can read just for fun and not for grade.

I adore reading..wouldn't be here if I didn't..lol..but seriously I do love reading books. I have been reading since second grade...Yep I was a slow learner..but when I reached 12 years old I picked up reading romance books(which my mom read all the time) and I haven't stopped reading since...but I do find myself rereading pages because I couldn't remember what I read because I would be off thinking of this or that..and would reread trying to get back into it just to find my thoughts wandering again..lo so I give up...lol I find that it is way easier for me to relax if I turn off all the lights..pitch black..and then close my eyes and try to think of a plot to write my own book..and before I even get to far..poof I am sometimes relaxed enough to sleep..

thats cool. a great idea. ive found that if i try to concentrate on how far iam in a book like if im on so and so page, how many pages to the end, therefore how far iam, i sometimes fall asleep just trying to figure it out because im terrible at math so that would also likely work what you do.

yes, i am like that myself. i may look at a program or read something and go over it again and again. i don't remember what i've read because i have lots on my mind. this is true as well for tv shows i am watching. i have to write down things alot to. i just don't remember like i use to

Hey bunny! I have done that many times! I will try to get into bed, turn off the tv and sit down to read a book! I think that this will help me turn off my mind and help me relax! Nope! I will start reading my book only to realize that my mind is racing to things that I have to do the next day and I am getting absolutely nowhere! And then I try to sleep and it gets worse! So I end up getting out of bed, going into my kitchen/office and turning the computer back on which is always the worse thing to do because then I am up for hours reading stuff, mylotting and the next thing I know is the sun is coming up! And then I first have to get some sleep! That's exactly what I did last night, as I have many nights and it makes me so angry at myself! And last night my boyfriend was up with me until 3:00AM watching tv and I kept telling him to go to sleep because he had to get up for work! He is usually asleep by at least 12:00AM! And now today I am back to the same routine, not enough sleep and who knows what will happen again tonight!

i know. thats also how i loose a lot of sleep. just get caught up either on the net or watching something and i look up and fuss at myself in my mind for putting myself through it all. sometimes i find tho that listening to audio book in the dark will put me to sleep. if you are really determined maybe you could try that?

Yes, that does happen to me sometimes too when I am reading a good book or a magazine. I think maybe the thing I was reading wasn't all that interesting. lol. But I guess the mind does that when you have other stuff to worry about doing. It's annoying because then I would have to re read the item again.

I have never been so upset that i couldnt read. But i always get too...i guess you could say excited, to read. I probably have ADD and dont realize it, but i cant stand reading if i know something good is going to happen soon. I will read like a paragraph and forget what i said so i have to reread it. haha
