MyLot vs. Twitter? Do you use both or just one?

Was responding to another discussion and it got me thinking... Tweeting is very trendy, fun, and innovative. I know, I've tried it. Gets boring after a while though. A week for me to be precise. Seemed like random shouts and just another site to fight for who has more friends. I know it has perks like instant advertising and stuff but does it really work? For me here is better I get instant responses as well just like in twitter but with more substance. A more honest environment. And they pay you too. How is that not better?
So, with your ad ventures or just plain old everyday thought hollering. Do you prefer using Mylot or Twitter, or both? Any advantage and disadvantage stories you can share?

I haven't tried using twitter but i've been hearing it has great features and that i should in fact try it. I just don't have enough time to snoop around with cuz i've got this, facebook, i've got my blogs, i've so many to manage that i'm not able to create a twitter account.

Yeah it is pretty tough to keep up with everything, I'm trying to minimize my sites as well because I want to be able to go out too. If I did everything that was fun on the internet I might never ever finish and may never leave the house lol. So on that regard I do understand your point of view. Twitter is a great way to promote your blogs though, I've seen plenty through my research and trying it out. I always see that little twitter button on everything especially blogs. You should give it a try I think even if it's not my thing, it's pretty simple to set up and start plus it's great way to increase word of mouth for your blog. But I'm guessing facebook does a pretty good job at that already for you anyway. What kinda blogs do you write? :)

I got four blogs actually. Check my website on my profile. You'll see one there if you follow the link on site news and development. It's about funny pictures all over the net. The other four is personal. It's readers doesn't know that It's me writing it so i can't tell you. :)

Wow, that's a lot of blogs. You making money off of all these? Diggity! Lol at the ghost writing part I've always wanted to do that but I couldn't follow through. How DO you bloggers keep it up, I don't know. Maybe it's your true calling. You need any extra contributor/ghost writer hands on your sites? :P God knows I could use the extra cash. ^^ Anyway, nice job on the blogs I wish you mo' money.. and then some MO' money! Haha! :)

I've never use Twitter, I have heard about it, but I prefer to stay here at MyLot where while discussing with other mylotters and making friends, I earn something.
I don't know much about Twitter and I don't have an idea how we can earn from there.

As far as I am concerned, I think I just use the mylot in my computer. Just becasue I just can have the right sign up an IDin mylot. So I usually use mylot here. For the Twitter,I can not open the site in my area.

Wait, you can't open twitter in your area? How come? as for mobility, yes, I guess, Twitter does trump MyLot on that department as Twitter has a mobile version, desktop extension version, etc etc (very trendy like i said). I never had a smartphone and I really don't get that whole mobile web thing here in my country but that would be awesome if we did. And if I can access MyLot via iphone app maybe or something... I'd be on here like crazy. Or I'd be in coffee shops a lot more often than at home when on downtime. :) Anybody else MyLot on coffeeshops instead of at home? Does feel more work-y when I do these outside. Kinda beats the purpose of earning though considering as I have to spend for overpriced coffee. :D

Well I use My Lot for a variety of reasons and I don't use Twitter for a variety of reasons again...:P....My Lot you already know why.Twitter,i don't because neither I have time nor do i find it interesting. No offenses meant to any Twitter fans,I am already a user of Orkut and Facebook and that is enough Social Networking for me.Anything more than that would become a pain.Plus where's the time? There are so many worthwhile things in life to do than Tweet!!...:)..I think My Lot and Twitter have no comparison. They got different purposes and would catch the interest of different set of people...:)

Totally agree on the different sets of people. But I still do find them pretty similar though. They still both just bank on thoughts and networking. But I get what you mean. :) But you know, that's almost exactly the same thing I hear from every non-twitter-fan, is that Facebook and/or some other social networking thing is enough for them. I can dig that, I don't have any of those and I'm completely satisfied with MyLot. Zero butt-kissing, gotta love it. Thanks for your response! :)

AGREED! sometimes 140 characters just ain't enough. I do love how some of the MyLotters explain themselves here. Very complete and concise. Almost to the point of making me wonder why they don't have blogs. Let's all start a blog! Any takers? :P

I use both and find both useful in their own way
If you do not have time like celeberities use twitter for 140 character microblogging
Itis a marketing tool also
due to mylots policies it has not the caught the eye of the matketers and has only become a sharing tool and platform
It is good that it pays though very minisicule
I like mylot so that I may twitter
for peomt responses nothing to beat twitter but for detailed sharing and expression of views twitter is no where near Mylot but twiter has become huge with all the disadvantages of the hugeness
I am followeing some 2000 in twitter and i have some 1000 followers but here the number of freeiends is limited on Mylot even promotiom of ones programmes ot affiliate URS is probhited that confines its role and more or less becomes orku and the likes with no spreading of the wings
I like my lot for sharing of views but for business promotion it has yet to register its presence
alo the best mylotters

Yeah I can't wait for MyLot to evolve a lot more! I'm really glad I joined in at the starting stage. Even though I know that MyLot has been around for years, I would say it still is relatively new since it still has a lot more room to grow and there is a lot more potential to be found. Glad I'm here while it's still on the ground floor!

I'm on MyLot multiple times per day, but I only go on Twitter once a month or so. I think you can tell which I enjoy more! I think they started Twitter because people liked the status update feature of Facebook so much...that's all I think Twitter is - "tweets," which are status updates. The only difference is that people can market things on there such as stores and other businesses that are giving out coupons and such. I think the concept is neat, but there's not much to do on there like there is here. You don't get paid on Twitter either, so that's a huge con compared to MyLot. MyLot is the best, and that's all there is to it!

You're exactly right. The concept of Twitter is great, but it's very limited. While it works for marketing purposes (and snooping - LOL!), it is based on the status updates alone...at least, what I've discovered. Whereas with the model they used for creating MyLot with the basis being discussions, the possibilities are endless. That means the potential for earning is endless as well! (I like thinking about that part - LOL!) Thank you, my friend. This is a very good discussion!

Lol right on! You nailed it! I WILL get on Twitter definitely when I nab my first business. But for now I'll just lurk on my favorite Hollywood celebrities and musicians. Twitter is a bit narrow in terms of variety, isn't it? At least in here, even if it is just mostly forums, the vast of topics are vast and at least intelligent even in the silliest of forms. MyLot IS the best. :) So far it's a landslide victory. For this discussion, at least. Lol. :)

I do not like Twitter.
Not only about the points you mentioned like it seems to be just like another site to fight for who has more friends.
But more because, You are just wasting your times.
I love my lot.
Give me my lot any day.
here too you make friends,\
more importantly you gain knowledge in the process.
And above all, you are paid for the thing you enjoy!!!!

i never been a twitter fan. i am an avid fan and an active member of mylot. so the day that i became a member of mylot until i gained lots of friends here...i never get tired of mylot. i am happy here.

Hi msfrancisco!
Yes, that does seem to be the trend around here as I discover more with each response. MyLot users love this site and are very loyal to it. I can totally understand why. :) I don't think I'll tire of this either. The conversations are a lot more substantial and in-depth even on the silliest of topics. Who can't appreciate that? This is why I mostly just brush off other social networking sites. I decided that I'll just put up one when I already have a business to promote and I decide that it is time to. Until then I really am enjoying my time here with all you MyLotters. :) Thanks for posting and enjoy your day!

Me too. :) I'm pretty sure I will. I never last more than 2 weeks with something I don't like doing. I've past that mark already so that's huge achievement in my book. :D I do enjoy bantering with all of you. The earnings honestly aren't big enough for me to keep doing this just for that. That means I'm coming back for the people and the content, the idea and the soul of the site. That's good right? Earning's just a bonus, this is really a whole lot of fun. :) thanks for the luck, msfrancisco! And thanks for giving the noob a warm welcome. ^^

I use the two websites. Tweeting is something I enjoy doing because it keeps me up to date with the people I follow - which can be friends, movie stars, etc.
Mylot is a good website to earn money but the two (I think) are not associated or related with one another.

Lol I heard those Facebook games get real addictive. They even spoofed it on South Park, coincidentally. I do agree with you though my attention does drift away after a while of following, lurking, and randomly shouting. Although I'm pretty sure I'm just doing it wrong. I'm sure Twitter is a very good source of information and connectivity. Just have to find the right swing. Not for everybody, of course. Happy Mylotting to you too, friend and thanks for posting! :)

I tweet, too. I have a couple of different accounts. One is my private personal account. I use it to keep up with what my friends are doing, and I follow some of my favorite artists and authors too. Another is a public account where I tweet about life as a new parent. I also use it to follow @swagbucks so I can find out when there are free codes available on their blog. I used to follow @swagbucks on my protected account, but my friends tweet so much everything else tends to get buried. My third Twitter account is one I created because I had a bad day at work and I wanted to vent about stupid questions customers ask. Sadly enough, it's my most popular account. Over 50 people follow it now.
I'd probably feel a lot differently about Twitter if I paid more attention to the public timeline. There's a lot of really, really dumb stuff that gets said on there. It's enjoyable for me because I use it to keep up with people I know and things that interest me. I like trying to fit my thoughts into 140 characters or less, too.

I see you have many banks, lol. :P I usually do check up (lurk) on my favorite artits' tweets from time to time. Not that much though since they are earning enough to have time to tweet while I, on the other hand, don't. ^^ But some them ARE real interesting - AND funny! love following comedian tweeters. Do you? I checked Conan O' Brien's after he set up an account for his road show. Anyway, I've never heard of this Swagbucks and you say they tweet free codes? For what? Educate us please. :) I have the same experience leaving one of my Twitter accounts for a few months or so and then when I checked on it I had so many (like almost 100) followers already with only 10 tweets. That's what put me off. Seemed like all those people wanted was for me to follow them back. Not my thing at all.
I do agree that it does take creativity (and fun) to be able to fit your thoughts into 140 characters. Actually I think it even takes more imagination to do so. I've tried it and I totally agree with you there. None of my friends use Twitter though as mobile internet is not as popular in my country as in the U.S. so updates are usually done via computer here (that means no Starbucks orders updates) so I'd much rather just IM with them instead of Twitter seeing as though they're practically the same thing. At least for me here. Great response, FrugalMommy, thanks! P.S. I'm quite frugal myself ;)

Lol at Weird Al! I'm a fan of your husband! Hahaha! I never thought of lurking around Weird Al's updates bet they are funny as hell. That guy's a frickin' genius. :)
Swagbucks only caters to those countries? What a bummer. I heard about that years ago it is only now that I remember that that is the reason I didn't join. Got conned into joining the other one though. The one that uses Yahoo. :P
That's what happens to me! Wonder what those fellas are doing. Twitter has some strange activity going on there, or strange people, probably the latter. :P I love me some crazy people though.
Twitter's good on the computer alone too. Especially if you are only checking mostly and not really posting. I'd follow those sort of people not the ones who update that they are walking to their front door already from the bedroom to get the newspaper. "Just woke up going to get newspaper @ frontdoor now. Hope there are no paparazzis Lol!" Know what I mean? I do everything basic as well. I don't need that much to be satisfied at least technology wise. The overload of new things to keep up with frustrates me sometimes. If I had the money though... maybe things will change. :) But probably not. I tend to waste money on even stupider things.

I follow @alyankovic because my husband's a fan. He has a tour coming up, and I want to surprise my husband by getting tickets for it. We went to his concert the last time he came to our city. It was a lot of fun!
Swagbucks is a site that gives points for searching. The points can be used to get prizes like gift cards or money in your PayPal account. It's available to people who live in the U.S., Canada, and the U.K.
I get a lot of friend requests from random people on my private account. My tweets are protected, so only the people I allow can see them. These people have no reason to want to follow me. Most of the time, their accounts are deleted for suspicious activity before I can even look at them. XD
I almost never update my Twitter accounts from my phone. The only time I've really done it is when I take a picture I want to share. I have a really basic phone. It's not good for getting online. Doesn't bother me one bit! I'll pay for a text messaging package so I can keep in touch with my husband while he's at work, but I don't need more than that. :)

I use both twitter and mylot !!
I am happier twitter is a microblogging tool with instant messaging DM and @reply and retweeting features But for expressing you views and sharing it and mind you to get paid for doing so there is nothing like Mylot ! twitter does no pay mylot does This makes it intersting But is it money that draws us to Mylot ? Decidedly no twitter has become a great marketing tool for the internet marrketeter but not so the ylot because of itspolicies Facebook and othe social markeing plafirms have trememendous numbe power mylot holds its own It has its own characte Promotoers and the owners make out policies and I thik they know better
I like Mylot for its uniqueness
It does need some modifications in its policies and terms but it is upto the masters
I like mylot response is good content is supeb wuality of the mebers is enviable
Three cheers to my lot!!

Oooh yeah microblogging! Thanks for that I've been thinking what the actual term was for what Twitter does. Lol. :) It does really seem interesting even though the benefits are not as immediate as in MyLot because here we earn directly from the site as opposed to earning indirectly when marketing on something like Twitter or Facebook. I'm really getting more and more interested in this Twit thing as more Twitter fans post on this discussion I'm really starting to see its benefits and how it can be fun too. Thanks for your insightful response! :) +!

High five, best hope! I share your sentiments. MyLot IS the best. ;) And it IS more interesting. I think it's because of the character limits of Twitter that puts off a lot of MyLotters because a lot of the people here, including myself, like to explain and expound rather than just state (which is mostly what you can do on Twitter). I love ranting here though. When I ranted on Twitter I kinda felt a lot more alone than before I ranted. At least in here I'm not in the middle of the woods shouting at myself. Know what I'm sayin'? ;) Have a good day and enjoy MyLotting, friend!

There you go! Finally, a Twitter AND MyLot fan! Thanks for your response, I understand more now that if you do stick with Twitter it does become more of a social networking thing rather than a random shout thing. And more and more I find how it differs from this forum type piece of understated genius we call MyLot. ^^ Thanks for your response very informational thank you! :)
