My laptop battery

When I came here a month ago, I came with a brand new Toshiba (Satellite) laptop. I am using it since then for my works. When in home I keep it plugged to the mains for charging. I had been to a the market, when I came and switched on, it showed ‘FULLY CHARGED’ but now after working for 15 minutes it shows 1 hour 44 min (63%) remaining, does it mean the duration for which it can be used is only two hours? The battery used is TOSHIBA (NSW24132).
Hope friends here who use laptop regularly can help, thanks in advance.
Happy posting, cheers.

It means when you use your laptop fully charged, that means you can use it for 2-3 hours without worrying about the battery; however, I suggest that you keep your plug with it so you don't have to worry about the battery going down or anything like that. I bought a laptop in February and that is the thing I notice now so I suggest that you keep it plugged in as much as you can.

That seriously is a big NO,NO. If not needed, do not plug your laptop, your battery life will shrink faster. Laptops are no different from cell phones, ipods, psps and the like in terms of battery. Charge it when you need to.

oh no.. i have been doing savvnlady for quite some time now. i hope it's not too late now. I always keep my laptop plugged to the power outlet because most of the time i get to engrossed on line and i don't notice that i'm running out of battery but i guess i have to be mindful now. thanks for the info.

I keep my laptop plugged in all of the time, while I am accessing my laptop whether I am wireless or not. I may take the battery out, when I have to walk around with my laptop, like if I am sitting outside on the ground with it.. Which I hardly ever do. But, I would if I had to.

I have a Toshiba Centrino laptop and the battery life is pathetic. After about six months my battery started to hold less and less charge.
My battery is only good for two hours. It is an idea to get another battery and have it charged and ready for when you are on an outing. That way you will have additional hours to compute while away from an electrical outlet.
I simply work on my laptop while plugged in because my battery doesn't hold a charge for any real length of time now.
If you read the users manual, usually already loaded onto your laptop, it will talk about the battery function. Also, you can pick up batteries for your laptop off of EBay for a reasonable amount.

You are welcome, thank you for the comment. The manual can be found by going to start All Programs Documentation Users manual and was most helpful for me when it came to figuring out why my battery wasn't holding a charge for as long as I thought it should.
I am using WinXP and is where I find the manual from on my Laptop. Wishing you well with this.

i have this laptop of mine for a few months now. it is also my problem with battery, it can only survive up to 2 hours without the mains. so even if you have fully charged the battery, we can travel and use the laptop for only 2 hours. i wish to buy an extra battery so when the travel is long, i can enjoy my laptop even after 2 hours.

I think the battery in our laptop is too useless. What can we do in there hours. We have laptop to get more flexibility when we travel, however we just can use 3 or 4 hours due to the battery life. It’s the reason I gave up to buy a notebook. It’s not practical to have one toy with you when you travel, but you can’t use it or always worry about the time length. Your topic is really interesting with the statement. I wish some producers can hear our voice and do some improvement on their products.
Now I Prefer my desk computer to my laptop and use it more than before.

You are lucky that you are able to maintain some period of time without being hooked up to the power supply in the wall. I know that there are different grades of laptop batteries. It seems to me that you might possibly have one of the batteries that isn't nearly as strong as the best laptop batteries that are available on the market today. If that isn't the case, then it could be that the battery that came with your laptop is a dud, which can happen as well.

Well good information by joe. It really depends on what programs or application your using due to it consumes much power to process those things.

Personally I think it could be one of two things. It could be the battery is no longer working as efficiently as when you first bought it and may need replacing sooner or later, or it could be your charger or AC adapter that is not fully charging the computer, this happened to me recently, I had to get another charger. Sometimes these things get lazy before they die out. If you still have trouble, best to get someone to have a look at it. Hope that helps.

It is possible that it could be. I have been on this laptop for about 2 hours and 30 minutes and it says that it is 100% fully charged up. I am using an Acer Aspire 5515. I guess it just depends on what type of battery that you may have. That really makes a difference. Are you on your laptop while your battery is plugged and completed charged???? If so, then it should show you, 100% fully charged. If you don't have it plugged into the socket, then there is a possible chance that it will be charged half of the way, showing 44 min.... That is what maybe your problem here. Plug your laptop back into the socket while you are on it and see if you will have a 100% fully charged battery.
