Do you ever have a quote that just seems to match where you are,

or where a friend is in life. I read this quote on another site this morning, and I can think of at least one friend who may see it hits home. “Living with integrity means: Not settling for less than what you know you deserve in your relationships. Asking for what you want and need from others. Speaking your truth, even though it might create conflict or tension. Behaving in ways that are in harmony with your personal values. Making choices based on what you believe, and not what others believe.” ~Barbara De Angelis Do you think you live with integrity? For many years I did not, but I think I am better at it now.

I haven't been living with integrity for going on 3 years now; with my husband, that is. I can do so with my family and best friend but no matter how hard I have tried, I just can't get through to my husband. For some reason, a few years back, he decided that I had been unfaithful to him in some way. I've tried to get him to talk to me and tell me exactly what's happening with him but it always ends in an argument. I've asked him what I was suppose to have done but he refuses to answer. I've had to start taking antidepressants and am currently seeing a psychiatrist for this. We've been married close to 20 years and have a beautiful boy, CJ, who's autistic. I love my husband and my life and would never do anything to jeopardize our home. He's suppose to go with me next time to doctor, so prayerfully I can get him to open up because I don't like having to take medication, etc. I didn't realize that I didn't have any integrity with him until I read your post. Thank you very much. I wrote down the quote to take to doctor next time.

Honey, I hope it was not hurtful to read that quote. I would not hurt one of my friends for anything. I will pray for you, and for him. I am sure he is hurting inside to be doing this to the both of you and to your marriage.

Thank you so much for your prayers, Gerty...That helps us so much. No, you didn't hurt my feelings by any means. It was the quote that got me thinking. I'm sure things will work our for the best, and again, thanks for being my friend and for your prayers.

I love that quote. My favorite is "doing it rotten your own way". I got it from Isaac Asimov's memoir. My way may not be the most efficient way to do things, but it works for me. lol

I really like that quote and my answer is yes I do live with integrity. I have always considered my integrity to be a very importany part of my character. This has causes me some problems in my life but it IMO is too valuable to be lessened.

the quote i have in mind is in the rhythm of life we sometimes find ourselves out of tune, but as long as there are people around you that cares they provide the melody, the music plays on. in life we all have our ups and downs and it is nice to share all of those with the people you care for. a share joy is double joy and shared sorrow is half sorrow.

Hi H..I love this. As I read through the different explanations of living with integrity, I find that I strive to do all but could definately use some polishing up on a few..Sometimes its hard for me to speak the truth when it might cause conflict. I try to avoid conflict and tension at all costs and therefore let some things slide when I probably shouldn't. I also have "settled" in my relationship, something I'm aware of every single day. My goal this year is to change that as it is absolutely necessary in order for me to be happy and move on to "bigger and better" so to speak. So easily said, so difficult to do. Great topic...J

Yeppers, integrity is a big deal with me. If I'd rather have just a few friends who are honest than a lot of false friends.

For me, it's this quote that has been stuck in my head for awhile now.. something like be careful or humble on your way up, because you never know who you will meet on your way down. This quote means so much to me and I use it to advise myself..

It goes along with "Lord, let my words be tender and sweet, for I never know when I may have to eat them." It is good advice to be kind to all both going up and down.

I have to live with integrity or I don't respect myself and no one else really does, either. I have to live up to my sons' expectations and integrity is a big part of that. Today my mini-minder presented me with this: Abundance is, in large part, an attitude. - Sue Patton Thoele Just what I needed today!

Yes, I sure do! Your saying is great. Here is one that says alot about where I am right now: Hope is the thing with feathers That perches in the soul. And sings the tune Without the words, and never stops at all. I LIKE IT!!

That is a great quote as well. I think these sayings stay with us when they touch some need in our hearts. I always think of this one, and then the one that talks about a friend singing our melody back to us, when we have forgotten the tune. I am reading you quote to say that you are holding on to hope.

I read a lot of quotes each day. A lot of times, they seem to hit home. I believe I live with a lot of integrity, but based on that particular definition of it, I have some work to go. I have a little trouble asking for things from others, and I think that is about all I have to work on. With appreciation.

I like this quote very much, GG. Thank you for posting it . I try to live with integrity everyday. I'm very active in my church for one thing and I try to live as the bible teaches all the time. I can't think of any favorite quotes right off hand but I have a few favorite bible verses. One of them is in Ephesians. I don't remember the exact scripture but it says "Be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you." Kathy.

Kathy, I cheated and looked it up on line, because I memorized that verse once. It is Ephesians 4;32. My favorite passages are all in Romans, and I love the eighth chapter, especially from about the 37th verse on. It is wonderful to have learned verses when younger so that they come back to nourish and remind us.

I agree with you. I do now live with more integrity and think it comes with age. I do however find I'm more judgmental as I age. I also want to give advice to people who are old enough to make their own decisions. I am trying very hard not to do this but it's hard for me to watch someone like my own son make a big mistake and still keep my mouth shut. I feel I 'd ruin our relationship and he'd think less of me in the long run. I know he's going to feel like a fool when it's all over but I will not be the one to tell him I told you so. I will be there with an empty shoulder if he needs one to cry on. Thanks Gerty ! How are you???

Hi Quita, I am fine, but I have one of those sons as well. Actually the mistake he made I thought was all right, but as it turns out, it was not. I am "nagging" him about a thing or two, but telling him that I know I am nagging, and his personality is such, he says he just knows that I love him and care about him. Very wise of you to pick up on being judgmental, means you are not too far gone on that path, or you would not admit to it. I agree, it comes with age.

In my younger years where life is full of red roses I can honestly say that life is something that I have taken for granted each day. I only lived for the moments and don't care for the future...always do many bad things that sometimes even against my own will. I had a carefree life and my parents don't approved about it and thus always creating conflicts. Now that I am much mature I already feel responsible for my actions and I also realized that life is full of thorns and I must live my life with full integrity or else all my parents love and hard work will fall to nothing. Life teach me a lot of things and of that is living my life with integrity.

Hi Gerty, I love wise quotes and there are ever so many that seem to be written just for me and my state of mind , my life etc... " Never tell your problems to anyone...20% don't care and the other 80% are glad you have them. Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind....I like that, it is so very true..

Yes I have gone it in my life.I guess I am one of those living in integrity. I am a person that tell what is it in my mind and whatever it is I am not afraid to speak the truth. As I think it is real and true I will defend my principles of it. Sometimes if you tell the truth many person got mad of you because you speak the real situation . Even though it happens try to overcome the results for that i the outcome of what you speak out. As long as you did it truely without any extra things to hurt someone just the truth will prevail. In real situation now a days people that doing good should always be the bad of doing fantstic things. What I mean if they was affected of it , surely they got hurt. To let then remember that doing good things last forever than having a false one.Still believe that we are not perfect too still we commits mistakes in any manner.

No, we are not perfect, and it really takes integrity to admit when we are wrong about something.

Like you, for years I did not, but I do moreso now. I've finally learned to put my foot down and insist upon being treated the same way I treat others. Unfortunately, this does create tension with some, but I'm finding it is usually those who the friendship was a one-way street headed in their direction. So, I am learning to let go of such people, also, and also not easy for me.

When you let go of some people you have room for new ones. I find a lot on the internet, as well as the really good friends I have around me.
