Are we entitled to self-defense? In what ways?

In thinking about the American philosophy of what justifies a revolution, there is a time and a place when the people need to rise up against their government - in a revolutionary/defensive/violent sort of way - if necessary.
Likewise I believe that each of us as individuals have a right to defend ourselves - by whatever means necessary - against those who would hurt us or take away our individual rights and freedoms.
Do we have the right to defend ourselves?
Are there any circumstances in which justify you to do everything you can to defend yourself?
what are your thoughts?

The time is NOW, even slightly past rising up and defending ourselves against our government. I have two problems with it though:
1. I don't know how to go about starting a revolution. Just going on a killing rampage against our American leaders is wrong and wouldn't have the results anyway. It's not any one person and the ones who ARE "in charge" are not and can not work on their own. That's why I say I don't know how to go about revolting.
2. Too many people agree with some of the things that are going on. I'd have to be certain that I'm not a minority rebel fighting against what everyone else wants. If the majority thinks this is the way things should be, it's my responsibility to go somewhere else or change the majority mind if I can.

Good point about the political revolution n' stuff - you should check out the tea party movement. Public opinion is against what is happening anyway - with healthcare...
Unfortunately, I think this is a whole lot more interesting of a topic than the one I intended... I meant to talk about individual self defense, but it doesn't seem to be much of a favorite :) Well, life goes on :) Maybe you could post a new topic on a political revolution... If you don't, after I'm done licking my wounds, I might try posting it :)

Oh, no, I'm sorry!! I certainly didn't mean to hijack your thread!
Personal self-defense, hmmm? Do you (or would you) allow your boy to hit back a girl who attacks him?
