What's your opinion? Have you (or will you) vaccinate your child?

My daughter was given a hepatitis B vaccination when we were in the hospital after she was born. I plan to get her vaccinated on the normal schedule so she can attend public school. They require all students to be up-to-date on their vaccines to attend.

Do you live in the States? In Canada we don't have to vaccinate as long as we write a letter of explanation as to why we haven't vaccinated our child. They can still go to public school in that case.

You might want to check on that... I went to the Ontario Public Heath website and they had a whole section on what to do if you haven't vaccinated your child but want them to attend public school. Your state may have more loopholes than religious reasons... Wouldn't hurt to check.

Yes, I do. I think it may be possible to do the same here, but only for religious reasons. I may be mistaken, though.

Vaccinations for anything. The vaccinations you give the baby when they're 2 months, 4 months, etc. (yes, for polio, measles, mumps, rubella, etc). But also the ones at flu season... H1N1, flu shot, etc.

Might want to skip the H1N1 one now since it seems to be declining...

My daughter had her daughter vaccinated however she refused to let them give her a bunch at one time. She spread them out because she was afraid of the outcome. I truly believe if given to many shots at one time for a baby it can and will cause autism in a child. The doctor wanted to give my granddaughter 4 shots at one time. Thankfully my daughter said no way I will come back three more times I don't care but you are not sticking her with 4 needles at one time.

That was my original intent: to give my son the vaccinations in a spread out fashion. 2 at a time, for example. Eventually though, I just gave in to my instincts and said no. And after saying no the first thing I felt was relief. Medicine has done many wonderful things for us, but vaccinations I think are not one of those things.

Where do you live? You have to pay for vaccines? In Canada we don't pay anything.

There are so many different kinds of vaccinations and we are aware of what they are for. Its would be stupid not to give them these vaccinations cause we are aware of the fact that its for their protection. Vaccination these days is a must. We shouldnt ask if we should do it or not cause its going to be for the kids good and our good.

Did you know that vaccinations are only 80% effective and kids still get the diseases? I don't think I'm "stupid" not to vaccinate my son. I think I'm well informed and have done my research. People are too trusting of doctors and sometimes need to question why they do what they do. Not that I think my doctor is trying to hurt my family, but I know doctors who think vaccinations are not necessary and sometimes potentially harmful. If there's any chance whatsoever that my son could be physically and negatively affected by getting the group of vaccinations given to babies, I'd prefer not to do it and take my chances with the diseases. I know that sounds harsh, but I'm a teacher and see a lot of autism and ADHD in schools. Why are those things on the rise?
