Someone really close has decided to give silent treatment because he is angry with me and I have decided to keep my distance for a while. But Iam wondering, should keep mum until he comes round and speaks to me or should I initiate.

research indicates that children would rather be yelled at than ignored.when prisoners are being punished .they are put in isolation because being isolated is one of the hardhest punishment there is -other than physical abuse.the silent treatment is a form of punishment ,way to attempt to control childrenand partner into doing what you want htem to do.it is withdrawal of approval, and can cause much fear in people who are vulnerable to this.

Personally, I would initiate the conversation. If he has had a day or two to calm down from the issue then he has time to think, so a calm conversation would do good. If the silent treatment continues on for too long it will only make things worse. It is always best to try to talk things out and resolve issues as soon as possible. I recommend staying calm during the conversation and only say things that are well thought out in order to prevent him from becoming anyt angrier.

Conversations link the bridges between people so I think there is a need for both of you to talk. Otherwise, the problem may not be solved.
