I was always told to dress for the job you want, not necessarily for the job you are applying for. I don't know if that exactly applies or not. You wouldn't dress like a construction worker if you were applying for a fast food job. I think the best thing you can do in an interview is be direct and honest. Don't let anything hold you back. If you have plans on moving up in the company, come right out and ask what the promotion opportunities are. Most of the time, this shows the interviewer that you are motivated to succeed. Don't have gum in your mouth and don't use slang. Use examples when explaining strengths and weaknesses. It is easy to say that you are honest and dependable. Give examples to show this.

Someone once told me that when you go to a job interview, dress like that person would be interviewing you. Make a list of your strenghts and weaknesses. A lot of employers ask this and it is always easier to be prepared with an answer instead of having to think about it on the spot. One weakness that I've always used: I want to be a better listener. This is telling your employer that you are a listener, but you want to improve that skill. Meaning you not only are listening to what is said, you want to understand it and the process behind it. Have a good resume with accurate dates, work experience and references. Letters of recommendation are always good because it saves the employer a phone call, all they have to do is read the letter and then if they have questions they will call - 90% of the time, they don't. Make sure you get a good nights rest before any interview. Do not go to an interview with coffee on your breath. This means that you needs a kick start, if anything have freshly brushed teeth or use a breath mint - do not, DO NOT go to an interview with gum in your mouth. Be 20 minutes early for any interview that is set up. Never do interviews back to back. After one interview write down any questions asked and then review them - it will help prepare you for your next interview.
