You should always blog about something that you are passionate about even if it is a popular topic. If you read other blogs, most of them blog about similar things. Your goal would be to offer something that other blogs dont even if it's a weekly giveaway. Make your blog fun so that others would want to continue visiting

In addition to quality content, passion, etc, maybe try keyword tools to help expand on topics of interest. Word stream has a free niche ideas for topic, after you enter a keyword.

Writing about something that's not too popular only means that you won't get much traffic. If it isn't being written about right now, chances are that not many people are interested in it. Choose one of your passions, even if they seem to be overdone, and put your own unique spin on it. Examples that come to mind are homesteading in the city, being an older student, working at home with three children.

What ever your topic is, getting traffic is not easy..So just make a blog from one of your passions..don't mind whether it is already made or not...just go on.Update daily and submit your blog to forums, good directories...As of now the most things that are searched by people is earning money online..so create a blog and share the ways on how we can earn money in online....All the best

You have to make your blog your own or you will have a hard time keeping up with it. I am trying to get traffic to mine and to figure it all out on how to format and post. Its harder than I thought since I have no experience in this.

writing about something that is popular is not a bad idea actually. you just need to make it yours. what i mean is let's say you write about myLot on your blog. don't write (copy-paste) the terms and FAQs. that is the shortcut, and i bet lots of people have done that. but instead write your experiences. what you find hard and what is easy. why the website works for you. then provide links to the terms, FAQs and link to the site. if you write about something too unique, there might not be too many people who wants to read about it
