Have you mastered your computers keyboard yet? I sure know I have, after typing out so many responses I can type on my keyboard with my eyes closes. I was wondering how many of the people on MyLot are the ones who "Search & Pluck" or should I say the one that don't have there keyboards yet memorized and have to go around looking for each individual key. My guess is that most of us have mastered the keyboard. But don't be afraid if you haven't. It took me a while to memorize every single key on my QWERTY keyboard! :)

Congrats on being able to type with your eyes closed. I can imagine that your job has helped you become a very fast typist.

Unless I'm typing numbers I can type by memory and not having to look at the keyboard. I never did learn the numbers by rote. I type about 78wpm

I didn't go for any formal classes to learn typewriting. My speed grew faster as I used to type word documents often for my mom. Also, I use to mylot often. This have improved my speed. But this is not enough. I have to take some class to get more professional in typing!

Same here, I didn't take any formal class to learn how to type. Just from typing I began to become better and better at it.

As i am typing to you i am not looking at my keyboard. lol .. yeah i can type without looking at the keyboard, but sometimes i get irritated when i make spell errors, i hate it lol, i have to hit the backspace and go correct it.. without seeing ... i can type all the characters without seeing but not the numbers and some other keys... and sometimes my speed seems to fluctuate, i feel i can actually type better not looking at the screen at all..

sometimes making mistakes one after another gets annoying. especially when it seems to be the same exact mistake over and over.

i have quite mastered it, as i don't have to look at the keyboard when i'm typing, but i haven't been able to type really quick, last time i only got 35wpm. but i'm glad that i have memorized the keyboard, so i don't waste any time by looking at the screen and the keyboard.

farkirikofar: It's good that you have your keys memorized. And after some practice you will be able to get faster and faster at typing!
agv0419: Numbers and punctuations take some extra time as we don't use them as often as we use the main keys. It's good that you can type out the main keys without looking and you have them memorized!

Hi petersum,
When I type I have to look down on the keyboard only when I do some of the longer hot-keys such as the alt-ctrl-delete and other like that.

I bought a book full of exercises for typing on my computer keyboard and spent just 15 minutes each day practising them without looking at the keyboard, but just allowing my fingers to find the right keys. It was well worth the effort because now I can type without looking at my hand, but looking at the screen where I can see any mistakes I make very quickly, and it means I can type faster too. _Derek

That sounds Interesting. I never heard of a book that has computer keyboard typing exercises. It sounds interesting! It's great to be able to type without looking at the keyboard. And as you said, it allows you to catch your mistakes faster and be able to correct them faster as well!

I've been typing since I was really young. The keyboard is not much different than a typewriter so it was really nothing for me. I don't look when I type and sometimes especially when I'm tired, it really shows. It's all in the way you place your hands on the keyboard and memorizing where all the letters are.

hi bestcomputergeek,
i guess my fingers would know better with years of practice without any real formal education in typing. and so do with a lot of myLotters too. but if you ask me what key is where i wouldn't be able to answer you. i normally type with both hands with 8 fingers on the middle keys with both thumbs on the long press key two levels below. but with numbers i tend to use one finger. it's probably a psychological program because a mistake with numbers can be a real expensive one.

Hi, I'm used to two types of keyboards. I still look at them, cause in my house I use QWERTY and in my laptop I use AZERTY (I bouht in France and it's real strange keyboard, but I got used to it). So, from time to time I have to look at the keys, cause I can be a little confused. Cheers.

Ohh, that's interesting. The only keyboard I am familiar with is my QWERTY one. I would also be confused as you are sometimes if I had two different layouts for keyboards. Thanks for your response! :)

Earlier I have learned some typing therefore it a little bit easier for me to type on a keyboard without looking at it.Quite obvious to master the keyboard in mylot since everyone is engaged in responding or typing which definitely helps to master the computer keyboard.
Happy mylotting :)

Well i can type 40 words per minute but i'm not a pro in typing a mastering my computers keyboard... :p

Yes, eventually having to search for each and every key on the keyboard can take a while and eventually we all get sick of wasting out time just looking for some keys on the computer.

Hello BCG. :) Thanks to my Typing class back in highschool, I have mastered the keyboard. It all started back in highschool and we were using a typewriter then. The keys are almost the same anyway so when I started using a computer, I tried to apply what I learned. I had some few struggles in the beginning though because the spaces between the keys in the typewriter are a lot bigger compared to the keyboard but it didn't affect me much at all. All I can is it's also a matter of practice. I'm glad that I learned this skill as it really helped me during my first entry level jobs after college. For those who are still learning, I found this site that may help. The site will tell you where to place your fingers all the time as the home keys and you'll get some exercise to help you become familiar with every keys. Practice, practice, practice and in time, you'll notice that your fingers seem to be moving and going to the proper keys by themselves!

I can't type with my eyes closed and at the same time I don't need to search for keys either.I am a bit fast in typing but not like professionals who have learned typing.I just type with two or three fingers alone and that is quite easy and simple like that. Thanks to mylot without which I would not have learned to type fast like this.

Hi there! Nice meeting you here in MyLot, my first time to be here. I am still in moderate pace in my keyboard typing skills. Sometimes I watch the screen and let the hands type and sometime I watch the letter I am typing in the keyboard.

It's cool how MyLot has helped all of us slowly start to type faster and better. It's great to hear that you have gotten better at typing. Also don't feel alone, there are a lot of people who have trouble with the numbers. :)
