13-year-old Newly Wed Girl Dies of Bleeding

I've just read an article about a newly wed 13-year-old girl in Yemen who died 4 days after her marriage. It was awful, I really don't know what to say or how to react on such news. The girl was a victim of a "fixed-marriage." Four days after her marriage she was found dead due to wounds which were found around the girl's genital area. What's more shocking is that the girl was married to a 23-year-old man. The medical statement revealed that the girl suffered laceration to her genital area as well as excessive hemorrhaging. It was awful!!

DEFINITELY NO TO ARRANGED MARRIAGE! Well, Seriously though, my heart truly goes out to this young woman. Such brutality! I wish nobody has to endure such kind of suffering. I hope whoever pushed the woman to marry the man's is now eaten away by guilt.

She's not even a woman -- she's just 13... Such brutality... Arranged marriage is for what? to preserve the family's riches or sometimes to pay the father's debt. Ah, Come on!! Marriage is not a business it's something which you'll either cherish or regret for the rest of your life.

There are many cultures which have arranged marriages as one of their way of life. Some don't seem to mind, because like I said, it's culture. Divorce is also not an issue because men are allowed to be polygamous. If you try to look at it, ahhh, a life without any pressure of finding Mr. Right, or pressure of being monogamous. But you know,I ask myself, what's the point of living life that way without the adventure of falling in love, falling out of love, getting hurt, loving again, etc? IT's just funny though because it's been said that ADVENTURE is only the romantic name for DANGER!

If that's what you call culture, please refer to my comment in response 7. The guy for sure is not Mr. Right! "what's the point of living life that way without the adventure of falling in love, falling out of love, getting hurt, loving again, etc?" Answer: Nothing, no point at all Life is about taking risk in love, I agree. On the contrary the girl didn't experience any of that If you'll ask me.

That is such a sad story, 13 years! That age is too young and i don't understand why some people make their children marry at such a young age, i believe girls should not marry at least till she is around 20 years of age, is it a custom for yemen girls to marry young?

According to the article, most Yemeni girls marry before they reach 15 years of age. So, if that's the case, what's the legal age of getting married in Yemen? 7-years-old? OMG!!

yeah, I saw the same story over at sankakucomplex.com they have several stories of this type of nonsense on there. but,as the muslims gain strength here in the west, we'll hear more and more, of "fixed marriages" involving pre-teen girls, and old men, perhaps in the united states. and of course, if anyone speaks out against this practice, they will be called "islamophobic".

This things should not be taken for granted. The Yemeni government and its people must put up their act. This is a crime not just against the girl but as well as a crime against humanity!!

This is sad and terrible. In India also there are cases. I don't know when the people can understand the situation and react to it. Atleast 18 years should be there for a girl to get marry. The parents should take care of it. Coz of the illiteracy and lack of knowledge about the complication behind it.

Well, each country has its own law regarding the legal age of getting married. They may actually know the complication of such "immature matrimony" but what they want is to reap the benefits from such.

Ohh.. That is a sad and terrible bit of news. It's really sad when people are still blinded by such culture. It's like they are only after their selfish desires. They do not think about the future of their children. They do not think about the psychological and physical effects of marrying off a little girl to grown men. It's like they do not care. It is really sad when your own family can betray you. I hope that this act will spark a change in Yemen laws with regards to the rights of children and women. Maybe the other nations can pressure Yemen, as well, to pass the proper laws.

That's the word I'm looking for "selfish desires" I do not usually cast stones but this incident just cross the line between humanity and animality. This incident however should be an "instrument for change." I believe that however crooked the marriage system in Yemen is there are still human rights group which can push for legislative changes regarding marriage.

Its really awful! Woman are supposed to be respect. Its a 10 yrs gap between them. I really disagree about arrange marriage. They use their child to earn money and have their business go on. I just hope wherever the girl is right now she will be happy because if its heaven then its more peaceful to be there than to suffer so much years with an old man.

I haven't seen this story, and my geography is pretty awful, so I'm not sure off the top of my head where Yemen is. but I can't help wondering, is this a country where Female Genital Mutilation is practiced? were the wounds and haemorhaging due to a stitched up area being torn open for consumation?

Hi, louierrific24. That is very sad to hear about. Why would she get married at such a young age. She is just a teenager. Her body is fresh from maturity. What country do she live in? Is this accustomed for a woman her age to be involved in? This man is a murderer. I know that he may be her husband, but he seemed like he just raped her and took advantage of her. He is indecent! Why would he marry a child?? She is not even an adult yet.. He need to be thrown into jail for raping a minor.

I don't even dare to call him as the girl's husband. He's a 23-year-old pedophile!! That's what he is.

I'm sorry to say that but some cultures haven't gone very far from cannibalism. These so-called traditions and customs reminds me the earliest stage of human history where the only law was power and where there was no concept of choice. What can we do about it?Spread the knowledge, teach and encourage others to do the same.

Aww. That really is awful. Maybe her husband got too aggressive that he forgot that his wife is still young.

He may be the girl's legal husband but I do not dare to give him such the distinction.
