How often do you edit your interests?

It really depends. As of late, I have not really looked into my interests and have added any new ones to the list that I have already had ever since I signed up. I guess that is really nothing that I have thought of. Pretty much I think I might have gotten most of everything to begin with. Perhaps one day I will find something new that I can add to those interests.
There are times where I go through a list of top discussions and respond to topics. Including those in discussion places where I have never really posted. Often times, I may say that I want to add this interest to my list. Perhaps I will. Perhaps I will not. However this happens every once in a while. Not all that often, as most of the discussions that catch my interests are from that list but there you go.

When I respond to something and get the notice that it wasn't in my interests, I usually add it anyway. I hear we get more for responding in our selected interests.

How odd...did Alice tell you that? I swear MyLot has the most peculiar ways to tot up payments. It's always a mystery as to why it's such a Big Secret, too.
Oh well...

I think that I edit my interests once a month. I go to the interests menu and I am looking for new interests that I liked to. Last night I've added few new interests, so I will join more interesting discussions.

I just keep on adding them almost every time I respond or comment on a discussion in an interest that I had not added previously.
I don't think too many can be either a hindrance or a help so I just leave them the way they are rather than removing any.

I do that too. I add the ones I respond to and it wasn't previously in my interests. I just don't go back and add any new ones as a general rule.

That's pretty good, I think I only edited them once in the last year! I need to go check them out again!

Iactually never change my interests, because I don't simply have time for it. I just put some in the beginning, and now I haven't even touched them. That makes me think that I maybe should change them every now and then...
I just hate it when I have too many interests though... Do you have this too? Because I miss the "important" discussions, when I am answering the "unimportant" ones...
I do maybe add new interests if I answer to an interesting discussion with an interesting interest.

I am sure we miss some no matter what technique we use to answer discussions!

I don't do that much often. Sometimes I'm forced to include some I am not really interested in. Then only will I use 'edit my interest' option. Otherwise I'm content with current ones and a few now and then, rarely.

I do it now & then, when I think about it (& have time). I've deleted scads, & added a few.
In fact--I've just added a brand new category of interest, one designed to allow people to touch on more than one topic at a time, rather than stay squeezed into some category where it doesn't really fit, or make yet ANOTHER splinter category (& goodness knows, there aren't enough of THOSE, right? LOL!). See my sig below--& POST there next time you need more freedom!

You hadn't noticed it for a good reason; I just created it yesterday! I did so because I got frustrated when MyLot asked me why I didn't post a topic in a particular category, & I explained that there were too few people to make it worthwhile, & that there were some rather nasty, proprietary posters who treated that category as theirs, & had chased off a bunch of people. Some had left MyLot altogether!
So after thinking it over, Elic, my bff here & in Real Life showed me how to create Open Mike, & there you go! Frankly, I'm surprised there hasn't been one already!
Anyway, the more folks go there & make use of it, the better it will become.
What it allows one to do is blend topics which can't be done in more narrowly-defined categories, plus (eventually) reach many more people to share news & get info!
Spread the word!

I'll have to check out the "open mike" category. I hadn't seen that. I guess if we don't check the interests often we miss new ones that are added.

These quotes I believe, say it best:
"When the student is ready, the master appears."
(Buddhist Proverb)
Also...
"Every act of conscious learning, requires the willingness to suffer an injury to one's self-esteem. That is why young children, before they are aware of their own self-importance, learn so easily." (Thomas Szasz)
Also...
"Pain is normal. Pleasure is suspect."
"I am the result of me."

When I just joined I used to be very enthusiastic about adding interests. I now feel I have enough there and for the time I spend here they take care of my participation usefully and actively.

I guess the only advantage to adding interests would be that they are more in front of us. Like across the top of the board and all. Other than that I don't know any other benefits.
