DVDs or downloads?

When watching movie at home, I use both DVD discs and downloads. Of course, we should buy DVDs/Blue Ray disks when watching movies at home because downloading can sometimes be qualified as piracy. However, when I don't have the time to go out, I just download movies using torrents. It takes me about 2-4 hours to complete the download and it's ready to watch. Do you watch movies at home with DVDs? Definitely it'll be clearer. Or do you prefer downloading movies from the internet instead?

Hi pierrella,
To be honest I did not know when was the last time I bought an original DVD and/or VCD from the store. I do bought DVDs and/or VCDs but it is a pirated one any I can buy it from the streets and some mall. We also can not determine the quality of those pirated movies because we can not watch it before we buy it. The only place we could test it is at our own home.
Since I have had my own internet connection, I just downloaded it using torrent. It takes quite a long time to completed one movie because my slow internet connection but it is worth it. I always downloaded the DVD ripped movies so at least the quality was there even though the movies was played a few months back.
So, instead of making those DVDs and/or VCDs pirated seller richer, I think it is better for me to downloaded it from the net myself. At least I know the quality and I can save my money. It is morally wrong to do it but it definitely not worst then buy a pirated DVDs and/or VCDs.

Hi pierrella,
I used bitcomet as my platform to download a movies or anything. As for a movies/video, we can watch it after its been downloaded a certain percentage of that movies (usually around 5%). We can look whether it is a camera vision or DVD ripped. But to watch a clear version of any movies, we need to wait at least about a month because DVDs usually produced after the movies being on the theater for quite sometimes.
I will look the movies that I want to download from torrentz.com. And I would look to title of the movies. If it is a DVD ripped movies, they would write it dvdrip on the title. So, basically I just type dvdrip on the search bar and I would get all the good quality movies listed.

I also download DVDrip movies. Since I'm already downloading, might as well donwload the clearest version. I get disappointed when my download is from a camera or something haha!
Actually, there are some sellers of pirated DVDs who have TVs in their store so we can test the discs. But we don't want them to get rich from their illegal acts so we just download the movies ourselves :))

I'm actually planning to buy an external hard disk but that costs a lot. The thing with CDs is they can only store up to 700-800mb (for some). So how about those movies that reach 1 or 2gb like avatar?
My USB is filled up already haha!

It all depends if I want to make it a movie night out or inside my home. I usually search online to see if the movie is there and downloadable and if not then I'll go check out our store we have here they usually have good new releases.
I have a flash drive (USB stick) which I put the movies or tv shows by the seasons on if I'm going to download them, then I will either watch them on my laptop when I work a nightshift or just stick it into my DVD player.
Have a great evening

I do that, too! I like how technology develops nowadays. Now we can stick USB in our DVD players or even in our TV.

I don't download from torrents either i buy a DVD...Both are illegal in my place..
No DVD's would be released or available until the movie is 10 year old..No producers will approve for a DVD print of his movie..
There is no way of getting a DVD of a newly released movie, if it's available then it's pirated and it is punishable by law..
So the only way left is to go and watch in cinema theaters..
So, multiple teams are getting benefits, theater owner , producer of the movie, people watching the movie, they could see the full effects made to the movie in a big screen and with the digital sound in theaters..

No cameras are allowed...Metal detectors and some special equipments are fitted inside and no way of cameras are allowed inside....
i have never seen a DVD of a movie which is 5 years old...
But some Licensed DVD companies will make a deal with the production company and they will make Original DVD prints and it will be available for sale, but i find it rare...DVD's aren't famous here...Theater watching practice is strictly followed...

They are that strict in India? So they don't allow cameras too inside the cinema? Because cameras can also be used to pirate movies. 10 years is quite long. How do you watch films that are, for example, 5 years old?

I never download movies. I watch them on TV or buy DVDs from stores of my favourite films. I sometimes watch them on youtibe too if I dont happen to have them on DVD. I think it is much easier to just go buy a DVD rather than take all that time to download it and then have to convert formats and such. And you are right if you are not paying for the movie then it is illegal and you shouldnt be downlaoding it.

oh piracy.. how annoying the facts are.
i have to admit, pirated DVDs are so easy to get. and so much that they seem to look like nothing wrong with buying them.
but i walked past a pirated DVD of a movie i worked on. it's not a hollywood movie.. just a movie for local market with relatively huge budget and young people like me giving our all to make it. makes me feel sad to see it. such a successful movie but the company barely make some profit out of it.

Yes, a lot of artists and producers are really affected but it is very difficult to stop downloading as people get it for free on the internet. Even those pirated DVD sellers are making a lot of money from it. It's really cheap compared to real DVDs and I don't have any idea how to address that.
Sad to hear that one of those pirated DVDs contain a movie that you worked on...

I prefer to watch movies in a cinema, whose video and audio effects are better than DVDs disks. Actually in my country the problem of piracy is so severe that it is difficult to find genuine DVDs. However, people in our country are willing to by piracy DVDs for its low price. To some extent ,Downloading is also one kind of piracy which is popular among our citizens. In my opinion piracy in my country will not be banned unless our citizens are more richer and afford the genuine DVDs

I don't like keeping DVD's because they take up space in my little room so I prefer torrents. And when you're done with them, they're pretty much easy to get rid of. I've bought "pirated" DVD's in the past though but I switched to torrents. I guess they're a bit more practical. I could use the money for the DVD on buying food instead.

Hi,pierrella
i often choose downland and seldom buy DVD.for downland is for free, and i alway choose the high-qualified version to downland,if there is one at the moment,i will wait.for me,if the movie which i choose to not go to cinema, the time early or late to watch is not important,so long time to complete the downland is also not a factor that let me to buy DVD.
If i want to watch the movie immediately i will go to cinema, but it seems seldom happen to me.

before i have an internet connection at home, i usually buy pirated dvds, but it usually only cam quality so i just have to wait a really long time to get good ones. but after i have an internet connection, i like to download more, because the quality is good (as long as you can choose), and it's more cheap.

I admit that I don't watch a whole lot of movies these days: but I do like to watch a lot of shows. I move around a lot so I don't like to carry a lot of things with me, but I almost always have my laptop. So therefore I've taken a liking to http://www.hulu.com as it is a legal, free alternative to watching TV. For the movies that I do own: I tend to rip them to an iso file and then watch them when I'm on the road. So I in short: I prefer electronic format rather than dealing with DVD discs whenever possible.

I prefer that you should buy yourself a portable hard drive and download torrent. Or maybe you should watch it online so there's no space being occupied (i.e. space in comp and space in your house). From my personal experience, I enjoy buying dvds but now I just don't know where should I put them. Some of them have a double copy because of blurr copies and no sound :(
