Are you a slave to money?

Hi, friends. While we live in the world, we have to find ways to make money to support ourselves. We work on full-time jobs, take part-time jobs and also earn online. Whichever is your case, you're trying your utmost to earn money. Here in mylot, we see new discussions on how to earn money online each day. Many people believe that "money talks" and they tend to do whatever they can to make money. Their strong desire for money leads to various social problems too, such as bribery, crime, robbery, murder, etc. It seems that we human beings have become slaves to money. Whatever we do, we seem to do it for the sake of money. It is often said that "Money isn't everything, but no one can do without it", which is a truth no one can deny. But the temptation of money often challenges one's honor. As for me, I'm totally against the belief that "money talks". There are lots of things that can't be obtained with money, like felicity, integrity, and true friendship. As long as I'm able to support myself, that's okay. Money is the least thing that I yearn for. What's your idea on this topic? Are you driving yourself to be a slave to money?Hope to hear from all of you soon.

oh yes you hit home and right on the money. LOL Well, is so true nothing much happens without money. ON the other hand there is a system where people trade items or labor in exchange of compatibles. In a normal honest world its a great thing.

That's right. In an honest world, money is of great use. It can be said without any exaggeration that human beings can't move an inch without money. We use it to purchase daily necessities, conduct business and engage in other stuffs. In this sense, money should be regarded as a tool serving people.

Economy based on commodity trading? Such societies still exist? I've no idea about this. In the old China, there was no currency and people exchanged commodities to get what they wanted. But now we have rmb as a trading tool.

oh yes money sure is a trade tool. ON the same token there are also societies which base their economies on commodity trading instead of money.

well, i have been running a small business now. i don't see it as me being a slave for money. i see it as an opportunity to make money to be my slave and make it work for me. i believe that in business, money should be the one that makes all the money, not me. good businessmen know this principle so well that almost every opportunity the get a grip on, they always enslave money in the process and make run like wild rivers. it's all about figuring out what works and what doesn't and it's all about how you see yourself in relation to money. if you think you're its slave then you'll be forever it's slave. if you learn how to tame it and make it work for you then you're several steps ahead to success.

How wonderful thoughts you gave. Everyone should have a reasonable attitude toward money. Instead of being slaves to money and losing our true self, we should make money work for us and be our slave as you said. But unfortunately, there are so many people out there who are slaves to nothing but money. Their greedy nature urges them to yearn for more and ultimately they themselves get lost in money.

How exactly are they losing themselves?

They may lose the ability to enjoy life, care for their loved ones and appreciate all the beautiful things around. What's in their mind is nothing but money.

Yeah, as far as I am concerned, I think I am not a slave of the money. Though I am short of money at the moment. But I still do not let the money control my own life. I acn manage it myself.

That's great, monkeylong. However difficult financial state we are in, we should never let money overpower us or we'll be forever slaves to money. Instead, we need to take actions to get ourselves out of that crisis. You're already doing this by working on mylot.

the world has become so materialistic that money has now earned a granite for a pedestal... but one's need for money is relative... as the saying goes, no matter how rich you are when you are always in want, you remain poor... but no matter how poor you are, if you are contented with what you have, you are rich... i think, this aphorism was inspired or taken loosely from confucius...

Thanks for responding, friend. I'm greatly in favor of what you described about the definition of "rich". Many people define rich only in respect of wealth, and complain about not making much money, but this word is more than fortune itself. As you said, as long as we are content with what we already have, we are rich both in material and spiritual state. The trick is to cherish and enjoy what's already in our possession, rather than yearn for more money. It is a common phenomenon that the more money people have, the more greedy they are.

you are absolutely correct, my friend. add to that this: greed is not being true to one's actual self and vice versa... good day, chen...

It is true that money is a necessity now. Society has become more and more demanding that sometimes people tend to forget the main purpose of life and just focus on collecting more money. Those who have a lot can buy so many things while those who have few just have to be satisfied for what it can provide them with. But contentment to the amount of the money that you have serves as a leverage. Even if you have all the riches in the world, if you still are not contented with it, you're still on the losing end as compared to a person who has a few but consider it ENOUGH for what he needs. I still remember this wise thought- "Money is a universal provider for everything but not HAPPINESS and a passport to everywhere but never in HEAVEN." I agree with what one said that you should make money a slave to you and not the other way around. :)

i believe in the saying that you should let money work for you and not work for money. we just have to find ways on how to make that happen. i will not be a slave to money. it is essential for survival but life doesn't depend on money alone.

Well-said. Life doesn't depend on money alone though it surely is an indispensable part to get everything moving. How about changing our way of thinking? We work for money because we want money to work for us and be our slave.
