I've never watched the show, so I don't have a clue what her mental state is.

Ha ha ha :))) I just love this post of yours. I know it could be considered spam, but the way you so seriously said it is simply hilarious :)) You should try the show, though. You might like it

It would have made a hell of a series finale. I don't really think Buffy was crazy although her life was pretty crazy. She was pretty sane considering everything that was going on around her. I love this show.

Have you ever noticed how every show about sci-fi, supernatural, etc has certain milestone episodes? There isn't a single show that doesn't aproach the time travel, parallel universe travel, time bubble/time loop and alternate realities themes. Not even one! Buffy the Vampire Slayer is no exception. The episode in itself is very well made and would've made a splendid end for the show or at least a season. To watch so many seasons and get such an end would be a somewhat cruel joke from the producers, but as an artistic gesture i'd consider it brilliant!

The episode you're referring to is Normal Again. In the episode Buffy is infected by a demon that causes her to mentally flash back and forth between two worlds. One world is the world we've come to know over the course of the show, but the other world is a world in which Buffy was committed to an institution before the series and has since imagined the entire series in her mind up until this point. The episode was left open for interpretation as to whether it was all in the head of a crazy person or if Buffy actually experienced it. Joss Whedon said this was done intentionally, but for him personally, Buffy actually experienced it and wasn't just a crazy person having hallucinations of this world of demons and vampires.

I can't quite remember that specific episode. Unfortunately no station is showing reruns in my area right now. However, I don't ever recall thinking she was crazy. Buffy was one of my favorite shows. It also introduced me to some good actresses I was not aware of before: Eliza Dushku, Michelle Trachtenberg, Alyson Hannigan, etc.
