This might be a weird question of mines but what is it called when you can't really sleep at night because you either have something on your mind or you cant sleep at all until it is very late and your body just shuts down on you and your out in dream land. So what is the thing called that makes you stay awake?

It's a form of insomnia. When your mind won't settle down and your thoughts keep you awake. I suffer from if from time to time and it can be very annoying. Taking a relaxing hot bath and telling myself over and over again that I will deal with it at x time tommorrow usually helps. Sometimes I will make a list of what's keeping me awake so that my brain can quiet down. We all go thru this I think at least occassionally. Hope this helps some! Take care.

When I have insomnia, I force myself to count backwards from 100 to 1. After a few numbers, my mind flips over to something else, but I keep coming back to the numbers from where I think I left off. My mind will again flip to something else, but I'll get back to my numbers where I think I left off. I'll keep doing this until I get to 1... If I'm not asleep, I start all over from 100 to 1. I've had to do this as many as three times, but eventually I fall asleep.

Can't sleep? that's what you call insomia. I sometimes have it too because of my shifting schedule at work and when my body clock hasn't adapted to the current schedule. I know it's hard. I read books until I'm off to dreamland. It helps...:)
