Lyme Disease

I thought maybe this would be a good place to discuss lyme disease. Has anyone here been diagnosed with it and if so, were you diagnosed with some other disease first? My son was diagnosed with mixed connective tissue disorder and then lyme disease. The doctors have many different protocols and it is all very confusing. Some doctors say it does not exist, some admit it does but believe it should have been cured already and still others say we need to treat the lyme disease as well as the other disease. As a Mom, this is extremely frightening. I sure would appreciate any input.

I believe it is a bacterial infection and its characteristics are rashes, flu like symptoms and even joint pains. I have not been infected with that kind of disease but I am a bit knowledgeable with the disease. Since it is a bacterial infection the treatment is antibiotics and if it is not cured it can proceed to problems in the joints, nervous system and even the heart.
