how important is color to you when buying a house?

I was out with my mom yesterday and I noticed a lot of houses on our route and I saw a lot of beige houses, which to me I consider to be a kind of neutral blend in kind of a color, but if I was buying a house I would probably not mind that color on my house.
so my question is how important is the color of the house when you are buying?
I would guess the price and the location are probably the most important, but you could always change the color if you didn't like it if you really liked the house.
just curious to hear what everyone else thinks of this.
if you have any house buying stories to go with it I'd love to hear some.

If the color did not suit me, I would try to include that cost in the buying of the house if possible. The most important thing to me is location and how it fit the family's needs. I look at the room sizes, the shape of the roof, siding, furnace, etc. I try to picture what it would be like to live in the house. How the family would interact in it. A too open floor plan leaves little privacy, but a too closed floor plan or rooms that are small limit how flexible one can be in the home. It is important to be located in a good community with good schools and amenities, also. The house color is probably the last thing I would consider. I once saw a pink house with blue trim and noticed that someone bought that house and once it was repainted, it was absolutely beautiful. Color can always be changed but not location or structure.

yeah definitely agree with you that the color of the house is not the top priority when buying one, but its nice if you can get one that is in a good location is affordable and is the color you like and that would just be perfect, but like most things in life we can't always get them to work out perfectly like that, but if I am buying a house, which I would not be able to do for quite a while I would want everything to be like I liked it seeing as this would be where I'd want to live for a long time.

With so many homes being on the market, I think you will be able to match your needs and desires easier than in a bull market. It just may take some patience and time. You will know the right house when you see it.

We may tell ourselves that color is not important when we go house hunting. We are fooling only ourselves. Color thoughts hide in the back of our minds. Neutral bland colors that look like everyone else get pushed aside. Bold brassy colors are ruled out for their obvious reasons. When the right color combination comes along, you will know you have the perfect house.

when you see that color that you like you will know it and the beige house that I saw on the road the other day had a certain appeal to them I could see myself in a house like that someday in the future when I have some money.
As long as the color is one that you like that really is the most important thing if you are the buyer as you are the one that has to live with that color for a long time unless you feel like changing it sometime down the road as is your right to do.

When I used to live in a village I cycled to work in a school. I cycled past a pink cottage with a thatched roof. I could see past the color and noticed a charming little home. My favorite property that I have ever seen was on a road in another village that my mom used to drive past. It was a white house with brown beams and a thatched roof. I liked its neutral color. It stood out to me to be the most gorgeous looking abode. In my local city close to the train station is a street in which every house is painted a different color. It is rather like a rainbow affect. When buying a house the most important issue is that my home must be in a peaceful location. It should have pleasant views. Inside it should have a downstairs bedroom and a downstairs bathroom for my disabled son. The color of the house could be changed if I dislike it. I wouldn't be able to make the garden any bigger. I think that a beige house would appeal to me.

I wont look at a prospective house according to the exterior color or even the interior as this can be changed rather easily.
Most of the houses I bought had alum siding and brick. So it would be rather costly to change it all. Ive been happy with my choices. I had one house built and the brick and siding was grey with white trim and doors. Now the house I own had grey brick and grey alum siding with white trimming. Not sure if the exterior of the house had something to do with me liking it....but I knew I fell in love with the size of the house and how big the rooms were. I wanted a lot of space and thats what I was looking for.

my parents house has some kind of siding to it not sure what it is it was a certain shade of blue so my dad had my brother in law repaint in and it looked really nice and having him do it saved dad a lot of money, but it was a lot of work and I helped out best that I could since I really don't like heights.
yes the most important part is the inside, because if you don't like the interior of the house the outside really doesn't matter seeing as you probably wouldn't want to live there if there are too many interior problems.

not so much on the color because i can always change it once bought. but i think the color could have influenced the perspectives of the house. and that would eventually influence its price. i love to see some old buildings here painted white. they seem majestic, mysterious, magical, priceless. i wouldn't have felt the same if they were painted in different shades.

yeah that is always nice when they restore some older buildings to their previous looks and white is a great color for that.
I would make sure the color was one that I liked cause I wouldn't want to go through all that process of buying the house just to have to repaint it right away after I got it I'd want it to have something I liked and could live with for a while before I had to do anything with it.

The preference is always set aside for pale and light colors, both interiors and exteriors.

yeah the most important to me would be how much it cost and the condition it was in to start with, but if that part was satisfactory then I would want the house to be a color that I liked if I was the one that was buying it, since I would want to live there for a long time if I was going to do that.

Oh, interesting. I had never thought of the colour of a house before buying/renting, as what I care of is how is the house in the inside, facilities, distance from the station, rent, neighbourhood, etc, but never thought of the colour. If it is rented, you can't change the colour, so I guess that for that it can matter for some people, but you're right. If you buy the house, it's yours and you can change the colour to turn it into your best place to live.

yeah that is true what is on the inside is the most important, but if you are going to go through all of the hassle of buying a house you ought to get one with a color that you like or can live with, since you are probably planning to be there for a while.

I do mind. And its very important to me the color of the house.
Theirs an art inside of me trying to come out.
I don't own a house. And in my current situation I can't buy a house.
But some loves cars. Some loves boats. But I love a house.
I don't know for me its my dream to have a house that I myself pick or design.

yeah I can understand that I am in that same situation where I'd love to get a house of my own, but financially not an option right now so its more of a dream for a later time, but if I could afford one I'd want the color to be one that I like and am comfortable living with for a long time.

well, color doesnt matter at all if i am going to buy one. what matters most is the design and the environment it stands... we can always change and modify the color of the house once we have bought it with respect to what our eyes wanna see.

The color is not the most important, but if I did not like the color chances are I would not even entertain living in the house. When me and my husband bought the house that we are living right now we were not looking for a specific color. It is not like buying a car. Now if we had built from scratch then we would have considered the color of the outside.

Yeah I wouldn't say the color was the most important, because over time you will have to do some upkeep of the siding or whatever it has.
It is nice when it has a color that you like and can live with, but that is always something you can change later if the house is worth it.

The color is quite important for me when buying a house. The brightness, or drabness, of the paint can make it pleasing to look at and contribute to the general feeling of the house. I bought my house a few years ago and was attracted to the rose colored paint that they used on the outside. Inside, it was all cream colored, which I had repainted to a light green. The colors of a house make me relax that's why it is important for me.

I think that as long as the color of the house does not distract or clash it's fine. Maybe a light blue, a beige like you've suggested, or even a white color would be nice. If the house has brick and siding I would want the siding to go with the brick. Blue probably wouldn't cut it, so I'd say a beige or off white color, white I would feel would be too stark.

yeah my parents house is a light blue and it doesn't stand out too much and was recently re-painted by my brother in law and he did a nice job on it.
I think either that color or the beige would be a nice color for my house if I can ever afford one.

You can always change the color but the beige colors give a warmth feeling to prospecting buyers and a feel of the neighborhood. A facade of sorts. I am the type that would strip the color and paint it. Hard work but worth it. I show houses all the time. Buyers look for space so lighter colors make the rooms look bigger. They also look at he space outside if they are entertainers. I also have those buyers that will circle the neighborhood at night, rainy days to see the flooding levels (drainage) and check crime statistics in the neighborhood on their own. Buyers are educated.
