cars, car dealerships

My family has officially scratched two car dealerships off of our list. For months, we've been discussing buying a new Kia Sportage, and we had planned to wait until July/August so we could set aside a good down payment. So, last week we test drove an '09 and '10. The first salesman we dealt with was, very unimpressive. He even passed us onto the salesman who originally greeted us when we walked in. Long story short, we crunched the numbers; not a big difference in payments with or without a down payment - and we'd spent our downpayment on fixing up our current car. So we decided to go forward with the financing process. Big mistake. Not only did they take 3 days to SUBMIT our information to the banks, but they submitted INCORRECT INFORMATION, which made us look bad to the banks. They said they'd call the banks and straighten the situation out, but even THAT didn't happen. At the end of the 3rd day, we decided to take our business elsewhere. What a trip this would be! The next dealership on our list was the same one we'd tried to trade in at a few months before our son was born, but we had too much negative equity carried over from the current car to afford new car payments. This time around, we went in knowing what we wanted and could afford. All that was left was to get approved. The saleman took our information into the finance office, and so the process began. We went outside to browse the cars on the lot and catch some fresh air. Saleman walks out to us and says he's got good and bad news. The bad news, is they can't put us in a Sportage for what we can afford monthly. We ask questions and the only answer we get, "I don't know." They refused to show us what was on our credit report that was holding us back and then minutes later, told us we were denied. What about the commercials airing on the television and radio that say "Got a job? Got $1? We'll approve you GUARANTEED!" After lots of questions unanswered, the General Manager, or so that's what he said he is, told my fiancee outright, "We don't want your business. You need to go away." Who says that to a potential customer? What would you do?
