The Greatest Gift

This past Christmas I wanted to give my son a very special gift. He graduated HS and we moved him to Colorado that summer. I decided that this would be the last time I made a stocking for him and set out to fill it with memories of his childhood. Things that were special to him in different stages of his youth. Thinking back to things he enjoyed I set out searching for them. I tried to find all his loves. YoYos, Pokeman and Yugi cards, he played football, soccer, and wrestling while in school so I got those little hand held games to represent them. Of course it couldnt be complete without some representation of golf. And I was lucky enough to find some golf balls with one of his favorite teams. Go OSU! I had a great time and I also felt a sense of sadness. My youngest had grown up. I actually wasn't able to fight back the tears at one of the stores and had to leave. I wrote him a tender note of how much joy he had brought to my life. With his stocking filled I placed it into a box with other presents and mailed it off to him. I wish I could have seen his face when he opened it. He called me as soon as he had gone through his goodies. He thought it was great! We shared a very bonding moment reminiscing. Sometimes the smallest things can leave the fondest of memories. What was the most special gift you gave to someone? How did they react to receiving your token?

That is so touching. My husband and I are just starting out in our married life so we don not yet have children but when we do I am sure that I Will feel the same way you do with your son flying from the nest.
I can't think of anything in particular that was that special that I've given to someone to be quiet honest.

Thank you. I think for the most part it is hardest on the mother when children leave. I wish you two the very best. And I am sure sometime in your married life you will exchange some sort of gift that maybe small but will fill your hearts.
