I am going to be a volunteer in Haiti for 30 days starting late June. I know it is rainy season there and with stagnant water comes a lot of bugs.
Have any of you been there in June/July?
How bad are the bugs, really?
Any suggestions as to what is the best way to combat these pesky buggers?
Thanks. BTW I will be living in a tent.

I have not been to Haiti in June/July but I have been since the Earthquake. The best way to deal with the bugs/mosquitoes is bug spray. Carry it with you everywhere. It is always within arms reach when I am in Haiti. Take something that does not have a strong odoer. If you are sleeping in a tent try to buy a mosquitoe net. You can find them on ebay for pretty cheap. Also wal mart has a spray that you can use on your tent, clothing and shoes. It works pretty well. I will also be in Haiti in June and July. I leave for Haiti next week. I am not too worried about the bugs you kind of get used to it. If you are going to be out in the coutry area my health department suggested that you call your doctor and ask them to give you the pills for Malaria (sp) There will be little to no way to treat it if you get it in Haiti. Good luck. Haiti is a wonderful place you will fall in love with it.

Cool Cool.
I will be in Haiti from June 23 to July 15th. I never thought about the spray for my shoes, thanks so much.
