let's face it, our country isnt moving forward to progress and we are even moving backward fast. were always looking forward to being a developed country like our neighbors singapore, japan as well as other nations like most european country, united states and others but we simply arent. why are other nations like malaysia rising while we are stagnant to where we are. i'd heard that the philippines is a cursed country that whenever theres a light for progress, eventually we stumble all the way and go back from the beginning.i may think its politics, tradition or even pinoy culture or we are just naturally like this at all.
in my opinion, we take criticism seriously and use it as means of vengeance and knowing pinoys are vengeful in nature plus the thought of crab mentality, we are not moving forward. other countries take criticism as a compliment and even thank that person for his criticism.
how about you? why do you think we are not moving towards progress?

As long as there is corruption there will not be any growth and development in a nation. This is the same case in all countries. Phillipines is actually growing now rapidly thanks to the BPO sector who are mining talent from the Phillipines. They are know to have excellent communication and are extremely patient.Change cant happen overnight. It will take time.Let us all hope all our countries develop soon and make us proud and we should make sure that we do our part for it as well.

i didnt say it can happen overnight but certainly it didnt happen in the past decade as well. in scared of the BPO as well. i've heard the US are having a bill that would only hire people in their own country which could spell doom to us... it may not happen for sure but you simply cant tell. i agree with you that were improving but eventually we will fall once more just like the past. one time, RP was at par with the US economy but we went behind and was not able to recover since then. once, we are at par with asia's powerful nations but now, we are one of the worst in southeast asia. once our country was great economically and we can easily make money, but now we have to go abroad to have a better life.

I honestly think progress in the Philippines is slow because of the following reasons a)the corruption is rampant. The pork barrel of the politicians are more than 10x their supposed salaries. b) The Filipinos don't really care about others or the big picture classical example : the jeepney drivers stop in the middle of the road at a green light to pick up passengers even though there are a bunch VIOS/ CITYs at the back beeping. c) Roads are an issue now, traffic is bad and slows down progress d) Overpopulation is actually a negative thing for the Philippines, the government is spending millions upon millions on education of the less fortunate + relief goods or charity goods for the less fortunate. e) Filipinos aren't aggressive. The average college graduate expects a desk job. Hardly anybody wants to create jobs.

everything has benn done in the past. overpopulation happened because we are used to have many children since before and to think those many kids owns a car which has always been the case... if you dont have a car in the philippines then automatically, you are poor. pinoys always have this attitude to be "me first" from the indigeous peoples in mountainsides to the most powerful person in the nation which explains both a and b. you think its because of culture why is it so?

Corruption has become a norm in Philippine Politics. It is very rare that a politician will not be tempted with all the money in politics. Instead of thinking and doing what they promised to their constituents, what became the first agenda on their list is to their return of investment. They wanted to get back whatever fund they had exhausted during the campaign period. Corruption has become the number one source why a country is not advancing.

well it's not good if a country don't progress cause specially for the economy and the education cause if this two factors don't level up well the leader of the country must take actions well one thing im pretty sure GMA do well, she is a good economist well when there is recession in the USA then global economic crisis hits well Philippines did not feel the crisis thanks to all those vats etc.GMA use her knowledge for being a good economist but that's the only part i am being thankful to her cause i don't recognize that she really lessen poverty

For me, I think the first reason is corruption. Most government officials are corrupt and tend to take bribes to enrichen themselves than serve the country faithfully. Second will be the Filipino's attitude of "Mamaya na or bukas na lang" which shows the lazy attitude of the Filipinos. If you can do it today, why not do it now instead of tomorrow or later? This impedes growth and sometimes an opportunity is not grabbed the moment it shows up. Third, I think, is the crab mentality as you've said. Some Pinoys are selfish and wants to be ahead among the rest and if they see someone who is ahead of them, they tend to do something to pull that person down.

Well for me crab mentality is the the reason why the progress of the philippines are very slow second is corruption. There are lots of filipino people dont have discipline they dont know how to follow simple rules.

We're not moving forward because our government is too corrupt and this has become practice already that it will take a miracle to really eradicate it. The government has earned a lot of revenue (taxes) because during the early part of the decade, call centers bloomed everywhere, created jobs and these workers paid taxes. These taxes should have helped in making our economy grow, but little can be seen in terms of improvement here in our country. And what you said is true, our country is indeed going backwards.
Imagine where our taxes went. Personally, I give P3000 in taxes each month for seven years while I was working in the call center industry. Other colleagues who are single pay more than that. And we all know that call centers have a lot of employees. But I don't see that money has been put into good use. Oh, I forgot. GMA did put it to good use with her lavish trips.

It's all because people here in the Philippines can't follow rules. May they be simple rules or complex ones, Filipinos just don't like following them. Well, I can't say the same for some but almost all can't follow rules. The rich, the poor, the politicans, middle class, almost everyone here from all classes are accountable.

I am not as pessimistic as you are portraying Philippines. I would say that we are progressing but not as fast as we ought to be. If we are moving backwards I would not see Makati as prosperous as it is now. I would not see internet access possible in every home or at least in every internet cafe. I would not see tourism spots developing as in Boracay and other beautiful spots all over the country. We are progressing but at a slow pace.
Why? Just like what you've said we alck political will to do so. Politicians are trying to manipulate things for their own good and not for their country. I think those are true but I guess if you would start from yourself to think otherwise then we may see a light at the end of the tunnel. Change should start from oneself by changing those negative vibes you have in yourself there is always hope for change. By thinking that we can move forward to progress than thinking that were moving backwards already.

I think it's the leaders that we elect. We have to have very good leaders who will propel our country to greatness. As it is, we are a people who have a knack for choosing the wrong leaders. I just hope we could grow up. Our leaders should be forward-looking and should think ahead before things get screwed up. Look at Ondoy and the other calamities our country has suffered. Did they all foresee this? Were they prepared to handle the situation. And what have they done to prevent such a crazy flooding of the city of Manila? Nothing. It's like they all haven't figured it out. It means they have not seen the garbage that are being dumped everywhere. It means that they do not see the effects of all these neglect of our environment. Inutil.

For me number one reason is the Government, corrupt politician who always think of themselves. Second is the community, the people living in our country. We need to be discipline and move forward. Crab mentality is also one of the issue, if your seeing interviews with the presidentiables, all they do is to blame they fellow presidentiable and bring out the rottest issue just to pick them.
