Reflection: Silence

I don't know if you'll agree, but I think sometimes we also wanted to have our silent moment where we can ponder a lot of things, relaxing and doing nothing at all. A Buddhist always does this when they meditate, but their manner of silence is quite unique. When they contemplate, they try to think nothing, gradually allowing their senses to loosen up until their mind will stop thinking about anything, similar to a blank paper. During this condition they achieve what they call "enlightenment". Have you ever experience silence? There is a good feeling afterward that you can't explain, it's beyond comprehension. I'm not sure if it applies to you but as for me, it does. That's why everyday before I start a busy day, I try to have a moment alone, where there's no noise and hear nothing. During this moment, a lot of affirmative things happen, I felt good and relief, feeling the peace in silence...and then I take a deep breath like letting positive things get in my body and negative things out. In the course of my silence which I also called meditation, a lot of things comes in my mind like how blessed I am and should be thankful for numerous blessings I received from God; I can't understand, but all I can think of or reflect are positive ideas, maybe that's the reason why I find peace in silence and felt good after. It's really an amazing experience and I hope everybody will experience it too. Silence also helps in spiritual development. Many religious traditions imply the importance of being quiet and still in mind and spirit for trans-formative and integral spiritual growth to occur. Name it, Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism and other religions requires silence to attain spiritual growth and advancement. Silence is not about the absence of sound alone, but rather it is understood to bring one contact with the divine. We all have different thoughts of silence, it depends on what silence is for you, you may even have or achieve silence even in a loud or noisy situation. Whatever it is, its worth living through.

i love the sound of silence! believe it or not... i am happier if i am in a place totally peaceful and silent. Silence helps the soul too you know - it keeps your balance.. it gives you time to think, time to reflect, time to enjoy what it feels like inside your body - and even better if you can feel your own heartbeat.. know for your that you are alive!!!

I've been doing a 21 day course through Oprah on meditation and the first lesson was to be completely quiet and in a place without noise for 1 minute. During the minute you are to focus on your breathing. It was so amazing to me how much difference one short minute could make. I came away from it relaxed and refreshed.

That's nice. A time to relax and meditate. How was the experience all through out the 21 day course?
