If government can't create jobs, then why do republicans think THEY can?

We all know that the government is not good at creating private sector jobs. But, republicans continue to say that they can create jobs if you elected them to run the government. But, we already tried this from 2001 to 2009 and when all was said an done the country did not net one single job. So why do people think that doing the same exact thing is going to have a different result?

I read an interesting article earlier today, debater, that may answer your question. The reason the Republican party claims that they can do (anything) better is because they are not the majority party right now. The minority party will always object to/disagree with whatever the majority party promotes/tries to accomplish because they HAVE to make them look bad in order to regain control. This has been going on in this country for decades and decades. Right now the Republicans are doing it to the Democrats. In the past the Democrats have done it to the Republicans. The game of politics is not called a "game" for nothing.

That is true Spalladino. The thing that makes me laugh is when I hear people like Mit Romney talk about doing the same thing we have done in the past that didn't work. He is promoting doing exactly what George W. Bush did, and we all know that he left office with not ONE single net job created in his eight years. So why would you want to do that?

Indeed, big business has all the advantages because it has been set up that way by both parties for so long. Individuals need to quit relying on corporations and the government for jobs and make their own way, this is how we as Americans have gotten ourselves into trouble. We need to re-learn how to live. Of course, easier said than done.

Good point N, I think that many people rely on an employer to give them a job because they are afraid to go alone. The problem is that when they lose that job, their only other alternative is to find someone else to "give" them a job. I think every American should have a full commission job once in their life to see what it is like to actually earn your money. But, that is just how I feel, and I could be wrong

Its not just republicans. democrats claimed the same thing when republicans were in the white house. They use to be able to create jobs by throwing money at big businesses, but they got greedy. The government gave tax breaks, and incentives to them to hire more people, they just gave themselves big bonuses. They raised the minimum wage to give reg citizens more spending money, so they could purchase products to give companies more biz. They just got rid of employees, and made the ones left do 3 times the amount of work. The only way things are going to change is if they start making laws to stop the greed. But then as long as the rich are getting richer, who really cares about everyone else?
