Where did you put your toys when you were a child?

Hello dear members,
Every child has a secret chamber in his mind, stuffed with fantastic stories and figurines. A child also prefer to keep all his toys somewhere safe so that grown ups can never muddle with them. I had a large box where I used to keep all fragile toys. I also used plastic bags on this purpose. I was pretty serious about my toys. I was very possessive, but when my friends came to play I didn't mind sharing with them my toys. I had little figurines that were put into plastic bags with their limbs twisted. I felt sorry for them, but there is nothing much I could do about it. I also had a habit to put them on shelf in a very strategic position so that a certain theme is conveyed through them. I remember playing with those tiny dolls. All the stories that I read and the movies that I watched, I used to recreate them while playing with those toys. The ugliest toy was an elephant. He was one dirty looking villain and was always beaten up by some charming and handsome boys. But when the game was over, they all went to the plastic bag together. There they laid with peace and never had a fight until they were taken out again the next day.
What about you? Where did you put your most precious toys?
Thanks in advance for your response.
God bless you all

My most favorite toys gets to sleep beside me on my bed, and they would just stay there all day when I'm at the school. Hehehe. I don't put my dolls and stuffed toys in a box, instead I just lay them out in my bed one by one. I take care of them really well, I wash them and their clothes during the weekend, and I make sure that they all look nice and clean. Hehehe. I loved those stuffed toys, though now I have no idea where my Mom put them. I guess she has given them away already..

Hahaha. Yeah, I was afraid that if I don't put them all in my bed, one would be hurt. LOL.
Thanks for the compliment. I really love this photo.

Hi,
I had similar experience in my childhood too. But I took each one of them, as I don't wanna hurt others. I took my toys as very much alive like you and me. I often imagined that they also had sentiments. It was an amazing experience. I still miss those days. Thanks so much for your response.

My grandfather bought me a wooden chest. I kept this chest close to me even when I was younger. He said it was my adventure box. Every year we went on vacation. Every souvenir be it a shell from the beach, post cards, dolls, etc. went in there. When I went back to school I would bring the chest to school and I could take out anything in there and tell a story about it. My dad made me the most beautiful handmade desk. I kept my secret personal stuff in there. If it was ultimately secret, I would hide it in my closet. Boy did I just have a rush of memories. Thanks I hadnt remembered those things in some time. dl

Hi,
It was a wonderful story that you narrated here. I guess every child has this adventure chest where he keeps the things that he thinks are the most precious. My cousin used to have a Tool Box, as that is what he used to call it. It became quite famous in our family. He used to collect there things that he thought could be used as tools. He even had very important things like empty math box, rubber stamps and railway tickets. The rest of us boys were very envious about the Tool Box.
Thanks so much for sharing your experience with us.

Hey bis! The more discussions you start, the more I learn about
you and the more I loves you!You are such a sweet
and sensitive guy! You are like the son I never had! I think
that is so sweet your story about your toys! Now I am kind of
old now so going way back to my toys is taking a really long
trip back! But, I will tell you that when we had our first
house (I was 3-10years old) I had a blue toy box and kept some
of my toys in that box in the basement. Some of the ones I
played with all the time like my dolls and stuff stayed up in
my room! And as we kept moving (because my parents kept separating)
I don't remember much of where I kept them! But, funny thing is I
am 57 and still have that "blue toy box" in my closet today in my
apartment filled with all kinds of stuff! Maybe not toys, but
definitely pieces of the past!

Hi Opal,
I AM your son. I am so glad that you still have that blue toy box with you. Perhaps this is why the child inside you is still intact. It hasn't grown much and still as charming and pretty as it used to be. We all have this child inside us. Deep inside, we just don't wanna grow up. I sometimes see this child in people, buried with such complicated things, they suffocate the child. We need to rescue the child and let him play merrily like the old days. Simplicity is the key to happiness. Thanks so much for dropping by. Do you chat? I think we should chat sometimes.

Hi,
Nice to hear that dear. I was never quite organized. My mom used to collect my toys and put them in a box. I didn't throw away toys even if they are broken. I loved them. But as the number of toys increased, it became difficult to put them in the same box. Then I started using plastic bags. How wonderful those days were. I still miss them. I know you miss them too. Thanks so much for such a nice comment.

When I was a child I used to put my toys anywhere coz' I still don't have my own room. My sister and I shared together in a room so I'm a bit lousy and messy when I was child. I don't where I would put it coz' my sister is also using my toys. But when my dad made a cabinet for us where we could put our toys then my mom taught us how to be clean and always organize our things or belongings. So that's the start the I used to put our toys to that cabinet.

Hi,
I was never much organized, thought my parents tried to teach me a several times, but I never stopped being clumsy about my things. My mom used to organize things for me. Even she has to do it now. I wonder what my life would be without her. I know I should manage on my own. Its not about those toys anymore. My mom used to put them in plastic bag once I finished playing. She told me everyday to keep things in safe place, and everyday she had to do that herself. Thanks so much for this wonderful participation.

We had a huge cupbaord next to the bedroom. My dad fitted it out with shelves so my sister and I kept all of our toys, games and book in their. it used to get in a real mess so mum used to make us tidy it up atleast once a month, but during those cleaning up sessions we would always find an old toy that we had forgotten about and ended up playing rather than tidying things away.

Hi,
Similar things happened to me. I lost toys and then was totally unaware of it. Then when my Mom used to clean things up for me, this toy is found. I had to celebrate its come back. So, I played with it along with my other toys, as if it was to be reintroduced to other toys. Thanks for such a nice response.

I was a messy child, I tended to put my eyes everywhere and I always used to get told to pick them up and put them away. It's a good learning curve, as I never did until I was in my teens and I learned to listen more. LOL
My son takes after me, although he does tidy up and put everything back to where they belong. This is unlike me because I often lost parts because I put them inside any old box. My daughter is a clean freak and she's only two, if you put something down she'll pick it up and if she knows where it should go. She will go and place it there, if not she passes it back and tells you to put it away.

Oh, that's so sweet. It seems your daughter is showing early signs of intelligence and discipline. She is already capable of associating things to the environments they belong. A slight departure from that rule makes her feel uncomfortable. She has a keen sense of compatibility and that is going to develop into a great taste and selectivity. I think she's going to be a bit selective when it comes to friends. She will only associate with circles that she thinks has a very specific pattern of social behaviors. I was never tidy about my stuffs. I am not tidy even now. I have books everywhere in my room. If someone comes and arranges everything in a 'normal' way, then I will not find a thing in need. My whole world upsets with tidiness.

Well, you remind me of my childhood memories..I just miss a lot. I was very cute and also very naughty when I was a kid. I had lots of toys, dolls, and books. I love playing with toys and my friends come to my house to join me. We use to keep all the toys in a wardrobe. I had a small wardrobe..where I use to hide everythings, sometimes I too hide there while playing hide and seek..M house was very big and has lots of space, scattered toys all around and my mom used to make it all at right place.

Hi,
Even without looking at your id I can tell that you are a man. Boys are usually not so organized in their childhood as girls are. Though I loved my toys very much, I never mind putting them in an organized way. My mom knew all about it, so she put them in a safe place. I had a huge trunk, but once a toy is out of it, I never put it back in it. I thought that that trunk was a horrible place for people to stay. I even thought that the place may suffocate my tiny soldiers and they may get sick. Thanks so much for your response.

My mom made me a rug doll once. It was the most wonderful gift I had from mom. The only problem was that I didn't like its face. It was too pretty, which I didn't like. Now, I like pretty faces, how things get changed over time. I just wanted this rug doll to have a more manly face. I also had tiny soldiers. I loved them the most. They were charming young fellows with lots of gadgets and backpacks. Thanks so much for this wonderful response.

Yes, it seems the entire nature was your playground. You have always been a very special child of God. From the very beginning of your childhood, you remained close to him. Poverty has many disadvantages, but the foremost advantage of it is that it brings you closer to God. Thanks so much for this wonderful response.

i was so poor.. i was so pathetic. i never had the chance to have those stuff..
when i was a child i enjoy myself not through those toys but through my friends.. we climbed trees, swim the river. eat a lot of fruits like mangoes, star apple, cherries and a lot in the background... We play games preferably native games like patentero, slipper kick, hiking the hills near the house and other forms of exterior activities... playing spiders is another thing to be given attention during summer...
hehehe.....

but i never blamed my parents of being poor.. it challenged me to soar high in everything i do... poverty taught me to be independent and a well rounded individual. i learned to earn a living in any GOOD forms... i am blessed i am poor and i am proud i am poor...

Really great thinking. I don't know about independence, but poverty builds your character. It makes you strong. There is a reason to believe that those from wealthy background are more prone to mental instability and confusion in adverse situations, as they hardly ever grew the habit. Being acquainted with reality in your very early life leaves a scope for a great improvement.
Huggs..

In our house there was a dark closet under the stairs and the further in you went the smaller it became. Both my sister's toys and mine were in there, but I could hide some of my boys toys way at the back in the darkest corners where she couldn't see to get them. She seemed to like playing with boys toys more than her own girl toy! _Derek

Hi Derek,
It sounds like you had taken all the advantages of being elder and a boy at the same time. You put your toys where she couldn't reach. LOL In my childhood I was afraid of darkness. I would rather have given my toys to her than to crawl into the dark closet. Dark closets are places where goblins stay.
Thanks so much for this interesting comment.

Oh dear, that is one of my favorite game. I used to collect pebbles with queer shapes or size. LOL! I didn't throw them to anybody. It was just a hobby to collect weird looking pebbles. Sometimes they are round, sometimes had uneven shape, some were tiny, some where large, but they were all so pretty. It seemed as if each of them is an earth squeezed to fit the size of the palm of a child. Thanks so much for this wonderful response.

We seldom had 'toys', but we got one toy for Christmas each year. One year I got a Jon Nagy Art Set, which consisted of a few colored pencils and kindergarten style pad of paper (the rough gray stuff). It was used up within a couple of days and I couldn't afford another pad of paper.
One Christmas I got a ballerina doll and when it wasn't with me, it rested on my bed waiting for my return from school.
The years I got a bike or skates, the bike stayed in the garage and the skates under my bed.
Every toy we got was precious because we never got more than one a year.

Hi,
How pleasant it feels to go back to our old childhood days. Even staying there for couple of minutes relieves us greatly. Don't we secretly long to be children again? I was a great artist in my childhood as I cared less about criticism or applause. I used to draw whenever I wanted to. I didn't remember having color pencils, but anything that leaves a mark could be used. So, I used chalks on floor, pens on shirts and papers, pencils on walls etc. I had a very peculiar way of disassembling toys. I mean anything that looked composite, I wanted to know whats inside it. So I opened almost everything up to look at the internal mechanisms, which in turn left me with a few [i]recognizable[i] toys. But I was never actually discouraged, as I loved doing what I used to do. Thanks so much for your response.

You are so lucky have so many toy in your childhood. Honestly I don't have many toy when I kid, I remember my mom buy as plastic ball so I can play it with my brother and sister. My parent always buy a toy that we can play together and not an individual toy. We put our toy in basket in terrace, we can not bring it at the house. Its to keep our house neat and organize.

Hi getbiswa, I only had one favorite toy, a rug doll and I named her Angel. All my toys were given to me by our eldest sister. She's the only one of the five girls who have new toys all the time. Obviously because I'm next to her I'm more lucky than my three sisters. When we are fed up with our toys we gave them to our friends who were from remote places. As for the rug doll, I donated it to a hospice.
