Why are you here?

I turned down a friend request today. Why? Because when I went to see "who" he was (and I'm just guessing it was a he) what he had as his "saying": "Make money" He started a discussion that was just a website - and that was taken down because he OBVIOUSLY didn't read the TOS. He also went to my profile to request my friendship and IGNORED my saying that is: "I don't accept people with lots of banners for making money on line. Don't PM with that stuff!" I guess I need to add - "Don't even BOTHER asking my friendship - I'll turn you down." Now, I have had a few people join under me, one is still here, one is now playing poker on facebook and one died. I was actually over at the one who is still here and while I told her to only pick a FEW interests and get responding and posting - did she listen to me? NOOOOOooooo. After she had been here a few months she's like - why am I getting all this stuff about - ____________ (fill in the blank.) Because you listed it as an interest, I told her. I told you to NOT do that - that you can always ADD interests - but you KNEW better. I also have other "old timers" like myself who TRY to help the newbies when they get started. Guess what? I don't even BOTHER if they aren't my referrals. If they can't be BOTHERED to read the TOS and they can't be BOTHERED to obey them, then I can't be BOTHERED to help them. So, are you here to make money? Well, its a nice perk to being here, and I have certainly enjoyed making a few cents while being here, but if I had come here to try and get rich, well, that ain't happening! So, I'm here to make friends and talk to people, and should I make a few bucks - well, GREAT! I have made some really good friends here over the last few years and I've had some GREAT times here with them. Heck, I have a world wide audience for my silly stories too! Sure, I have quite a few interests, some are here because I start discussions in them, but most of the time I don't click on them at the top of my page, because I'm not THAT interested in them. But some, Science, Cats, NCIS, History, to name just a few, if I see them, I will click them and often will respond to discussions in them, even if I've never seen the person starting them before. And I've made friends that way. (Oh, look, I've responded to a dozen of this person's discussions in Horses - let's friend her.) So, I ask - why are YOU here?

I am here because I choose to be here and choice is a precious asset. For many Mylot members, from countries that do not have the freedom of choice that I enjoy, they are able to speak their mind freely behind a username. They are able to ask questions about taboo subjects and get honest answers from around the world. And I learn from those questions and answers especially if the subject does not fall within my experience. If a friend asks me how I make money on the Net - I choose to tell them. If a friend asks me to join a program to make money, I first do my 'due diligence' on the site and either choose to give a reason to refuse or request that they come back to me after they have been paid. If a friend asks me to buy viagra or enhance my '_______' (fill in the body part of choice!) then they are removed. That is, the 'friend' - not the body part/s. haha I have thousands of 'friends' here. I never refuse a request. I only remove them from my list of friends on rare occasions. (see above) And yes, I think Mylot is different. It is less confrontational and rude. It is generally a site where you can find good advice and moral support. Oh and yes, I have been paid over twenty times as well which is a sweetener!

Well, like you it's not because of the money.....that is just an added bonus. I vary rarely add any new friends request, although I will if it's someone I've seen here for a while and like their discussions and responses. I have made some good friends here as well, like you. I just don't understand the ones that post a discussion and never respond back to the ones that take the time to read it and respond. After all it is a discussion! As for the little bit of money I make here, it's fun, and I usually spend it on scrappin supplies, Go figure! lol But as for it payin the bills, not hardly.

If I had answered this question three years ago I would have said that I was here for the earnings and to learn how to earn online. If you asked me two years ago I would have said that I was here because I had many friends who I was thanjful to for helping me get started. If you asked me a year ago I would have answered that I have many friends here and the earnings are just a bonus. But you are asking today Many of my friends are no longer here. Some are missing and will be back. I really don't know what else to add, maybe because I am noticing a change in the 'feel' of the Lot over the past few weeks. Too many new users who are just here to earn (and will be disappointed unless they start typing something) and many others who are busy elsewhere and only just popping in and out nowadays. I will confess here that I am getting burnt out helping new users, half of which do not really want to learn and I have no answer to your question, today. Maybe you can ask me tomorrow?

Hello Diana. There is a slightly different 'feel' as you say, and that's down to the money makers who won't even take time to read the guidelines first. I just don't bother with them now, and that is right against my nature, as I like to help people. You say a lot of our friends are missing, and I think the reason they are missing is because of the lack of quality discussions. That's certainly why I don't spend so much time here. I am also busy on Helium, where I am earning quite well with my articles, but I would make more time for MyLot if the quality discussions were there.

I'm here for the friends too. I started out here curious about the online money thing but now I have found this is a great place to hang out and make friends. I've learned a lot since I've been here too. I love that fact that the place is full of such diversity. I am the same way you are about accepting friends. I alwasy check out their profile. Take care.

Hello, Elic. I'm with you all the way on this. I'm sick of seeing 'discussions' which are just adverts, and others asking basic questions that are answered int the TOS and FAQs. I just can't be bothered with that sort of stuff any more. I'm also getting lots of FRs from people with only a few posts, and I turn them down, because I'm here for the discussions and my friends. I joined MyLot because it was completely different to any other site on the internet, and I want to keep it that way. There are plenty of places for dross and scams - we don't want it or need it here.

Hi Sandra! I was reading your response before posting my own and something hit me: " ...it was completely different to any other site...". Is that still the same? Is it as 'different' as it used to be or is something changing?

It's the users that make the site I guess and if they are changing, or the ratio is changing (more here to earn than for the fun) then that is what I am sensing. Several new users who were doing so well last month have stopped posting after, Ipresume, reaching their payout - and that's sad

Hello, Diana. It's still pretty different - it's not the site that's changing, it's the personnel on here. We seem to be a bit topheavy with money makers at the moment, and a lot of our friends are missing. You - and of course Lamb - are just the same as ever - thank goodness.

i am only here to make some money coz i can do it while i'm watching tv. I dont accept people anymore because i'm not going to talk to anyone anyway. I dont see this website as a place to socialise just to express my opinions whilst getting paid, basically if i weren't getting paid for this i would not be doing it

And see, I was talking to people without getting paid before I got invited here. And if you DON'T respond to people, you don't get paid as much, so why not make it a DISCUSSION rather than a soap box?

I'm here for the same reason as you. I love to interact with people and make friends. MyLot is the PERFECT place to do this, in my opinion. The money is purely icing on the cake. I also turn down friend requests when I see that they only seem to be interested in making money and getting referrals. Sometimes, I'm fooled and do allow them on my friends list but, if they immediately PM me about a referral site, I'll answer them with a 'thanks but no thanks', then delete them from my friends list. Someone actually asked me if I wanted to buy a house located in the Philippines! Yeah, sure, I want to buy a house halfway around the world that I've never seen and probably doesn't even exist in the first place. Sure. Actually, I'm quite surprised that no one has yet approached me here with a scheme to declare me as the "next-of-kin" to inherit a gazillion million bajillion dollars. They seem to be everywhere else!

Good heavens! By a very strange coincidence, I had an email a week ago last Thursday asking me for help in tracing the next-of-kin of a gentleman, Mr. Peter Talward, who has won $56,000,000 in a lottery but had, unfortunately, met with an accident before he was able to claim his winnings. The lottery ticket is held, even now, by my friend in Lagos, Nigeria and, according to him, the winning amount (to be paid by the Microsaft and Yooha, Corp. Inc. of England, I believe) will have to be returned to the National Bank of Monrovia unless an accredited beneficiary can be found. My friend is, of course, a Justice of the Peace, a Professor at the University, a respected Medical Practitioner and a Minister of the Church of The Holy Succour and of St. Puldeaddawon in Lagos, so his credentials are impeccable. If you happen to be a relative of the Late said Mr Peter Talward, perhaps you would instantly forward me your First Name, Last Name, Address, Phone Number, Bank Account Details and Social Security Number (together with your License Plate number and Library Card) so that we can process the claim for the outstanding amount. Understandably, of course, there will be a small remuneration of $2,500 (which can be sent to my PayPal account) to defray the expenses of conducting this transaction.

ONLY $2,500? Wow! Lemme go get my bank details! Isn't your friend also a former president of Nigeria? Also, didn't Mr Peter Talward's entire family die with him in that horrible accident? Somehow, I now feel complete here at myLot. Thanks for making my day.

I used to accept anyone who I got a friend request from. NOT ANYMORE! I have had so many people just set stagnant and boring in my list. I have gotten alot of spam letters from others. I have even gotten some weird, boring or off beat responses in a discussion from others. I have become very picky and I am glad to see others have also. It is such a waste of time to let spammer and people just on here for exploitation. We are here to set up discussions not to spam people with money making schemes!!

learn everything if I could and found great friends, here also I have honed my skills in speaking. In addition, at least have little ability to respond to a discussion. All speeches must be carefully structured so that the clear meaning and purpose. Previously, I don't like to write and after I met all people from around the world then I will sharpen my skills in communicating with friends.

Wow... My story is not very long, not very special... I was a member of Yahoo answers before i ever saw this place, i loved to post over there, answering some of their questions and stuffs, basically in the electronics, internet and relationship interests, i loved that place too. Loved it when i was given the best answers, pretty much like the best responses over here. I was regular over there until one day my friend *Shames told me about this site. I checked it out, i loved it more than any other sites where we share our ideas. This place is not only good to share ideas, but make some great friends and talk with them each day.!

There are a variety of reasons that I am here. The main reason that I am here is because after I discovered mylot as a site for making money, I discovered that there was another need in my life that the site fulfills. You see, I stay at home with my children during the day and spending time on mylot fulfills my need to have conversation with other adults. That is the reason tha I stayed in the first place and that is the main reason that I am still here today.

I hear ya. Tho I don't have children, I do know the need to have conversations with people with similar interests. In part because I do have various interests, and the friends around me can't always cover all of them, I find mylot is a great way to connect with other people who have one of those interests that I can't supply at home... after all, while my roommate loves cats and science fiction she's a bit wanting in the horse area, due to the fact that she is visually impaired...

Good day friend By the sounds of it we're here under the same reasons. I'm hoping to make a few friends and just be able to talk with people about anything. Don't care too much about the cash, it'll just go to a cup of coffee someday anyway My Girlfriend brought me in, she's been here for a few years and wanted me to meet some of her friends on here. I've met some interesting people and have yet to meet someone who was, shall we say, not compatible with the masses. So, here's to happy mylotting and new friend making, the world over

Boy! You're certainly in a mood! I came for 4 reasons. ONE, you invited me, plus you told me it would not only make me a bit of money, but that it would up your payout. I always try to look for ways to help you or do you favors when I can. TWO, I need the extra money, but from the git-go I knew it wouldn't be much, so reason THREE, was because I always want to keep my writing talents lubricated, & this place does it nicely. After a little time here, I found reason number FOUR, it's the funnest site of this type I've ever seen, & here I've even managed to make a few real friends, something I was sort of low on, having had some move out of state, one die, & living alone in a place not close to the few left in town (Austin is a loooong skinny town, & I'm at the North end, while my old friends are largely way at the South end!), it gave me ready access to new pals. Since that time, I've made a few friends close by, but I never want to lose MyLot! SHE SAID: "I was actually over at the one who is still here (that would be yours truly, Maggiepie) and while I told her to only pick a FEW interests and get responding and posting - did she listen to me? NOOOOOooooo. After she had been here a few months she's like - why am I getting all this stuff about - ____________ (fill in the blank.) Because you listed it as an interest, I told her. I told you to NOT do that - that you can always ADD interests - but you KNEW better." Smile when you say that, podner.... Maggiepie TALK ABOUT ANYTHING, MULTIPLE TOPICS AT ONCE! POST IN "Open Mike!"

I'm here because I am shut in the house taking care of my husband almost 24/7 and it's good to have people to talk with even if I can't see them. I enjoy the discussions and occasionally, the heated discussions. What I haven't figured out though, is why some people get irate if you have a different point of view. I even had one person ask "if people disagree, why do they even answer the posts." Funny, I thought 'discussions' usually included varying points of view - not just one. Overall, I enjoy the variety of people I meet here.

I avoid discussions that might get heated - not that I always agree with someone, but that I avoid conflict. I don't mind if people have different opinions, just so long as they are civil. Its the uncivil ones I dislike.

The extra money I earn from here is a fun little bonus to my retirement fund, but like you said, if you're here to make money...well, that's kind of dumb. I'm here because I like the forum systems. For the past 15 years of having the internet and using it, I've never been able to find a forum set up the way I like. There are those forums that stick to one subject (I've belonged to a vegan forum and a child-free forum, but that's the only subject there). And what fun are forums where most people agree with you? At myLot I can talk with people who are polar opposites of myself, and yet find a common ground on SOMETHING--whether it be what kind of juice we drink in the mornings, a mutual belief in zodiac signs, etc. This is a forum where all the simple but fun questions are asked, the questions that people wouldn't be bothered with on any other random forum. Some don't like the questions that are generally materialistic (what do you like on your pizza? etc.), but I think it's fun to compare my answers of those questions with tons of different people who live across the U.S., or even from India, China, and across the world. How often do I get to speak with these people about anything?! Not only do I get to talk about literally anything with people from all over the world, but the forum system is set up beautifully. I don't have to keep checking my interests to see if I've missed a post. When one is updated, it's at the top of the page in a line up of most recent posts. myLot keeps their forums convenient and fun to navigate...and I've used the "related posts" option quite a few times. This website isn't set up like a forum; instead, it's set up like a news site would be. Updates everywhere so you never feel bored. Anyway, that's my take on it.

My friend introduced this site to me and I was pretty excited to register and meet other mylotters. So without hesitation I joined this site and started loving it because not only I'm earning but because I can learn something on the rest of the members. Its funny to think sometimes that I forget that this is an earning site but what Im up to is to build friendship within the group and to learn. Right now, I cant get up from my seat, Ive been in the computer the whole day but I cant just stand up and stop this even for a while. I mean I really get excited when someone replies after me. :)

I came home from work on Tuesday and I had a LOT of stuff to do, but I knew NONE of it would get done if I didn't stay away from the computer. I started a discussion about it - Busy, busy, busy - because I'm so addicted to mylot that I'm known to get up in the middle of the night and say up the rest of the night if I come here! then I'm snoozing the way through the rest of my day
