OK, I am wondering if any UK members here might know the answer to this...
I live in a village called Tadley and I have been waiting for cable for ages. I contacted Virgin Media in 2004 about when they were going to get cabe in the area and they said April....and so far still no cable, and I guess they were not lying as they did not say what year April it was!
Seriously though, does anyone know why they have not put cable in Tadley yet?

Yes. Simple answer is money.
Cost of digging, laying and installing cables to expand their coverage is not considered cost-effective. This is a particular problem for outlying areas as the costs would be weighed against the possible revenue from catchment in that area.
Thats ultimately something which will affect all such services to those types of area. BT are generally ok as they've had telephone cables everywhere from very early on and ultimately those lines are rented by the other media companies.
In many cases there are large towns within easy driving distance, but the costs involved in spreading to the smaller areas outweigh the perceived benefits.
In some cases the costs are particularly high due to the landscape and protected land they would need to cross/dig.

Ah, I see....
Thankyou for enlightening me, would have been nice for them to explain this and not just say one date then another and then another...
