I need advice fairly quickly...

I am babysitting for my cousin's one year old daughter today, and she keeps on crying and whining for her mommy and daddy and grandma. I have watched her before, lots of times, but she is really missing them this time. I've tried giving her good things to eat, tried playing with her, tried reading her stories, but nothing is really working. Any advice would be helpful! Thanks! (She is napping right now, and hopefully she'll awaken in a better mood.)

Try looking for a piece of clothing of her mom's that still has her mom's smell on it and put it on (if you can). This worked once when I was babysitting a 9-month-old cousin who couldn't stop crying for almost an hour. I wore my aunt's bathrobe with her scent still strong in it. My baby cousin stopped crying and just nestled quietly when I held her.

Interesting idea, but unfortunately I can't find anything like that because I'm not at her house, I'm at mine. Thanks for the advice.

Hmm.. maybe she's crying because she's at an unfamiliar place? If that's the case maybe making her feel more at home may help. Do you have a photo album that has pictures of her mom, dad, grandma, etc? Maybe showing her the pictures will make her feel more at ease, and help quiet her down. Best of luck!

I would say just keep trying different games and toys. Does she have a favorite tv show? I realize she is only 1, but sometimes certain shows will grab their attention and distract them. She may not be feeling well or just extra tired which is making her miss her mommy and daddy more. If it's warm enough to take her outside, maybe take her for a walk. my kids love to be outside.

She loves to go outside, but unfortunately it is raining! :( Thanks for the advice, I will try some different toys when she gets up.
