Finally, proof that being GAY isn't a CHOICE!

It seems that if your mother was subjected to stress during her early part of her pregnancy you could have been gay.
It says, that once it's gender committment is set, it CANNOT be changed.
So, the bloody heretics that have been trying to CONVERT or PUNISH Gay people for just being who they were genetically determined to be, can now end.
"As we evaluate new scientific understanding, antiquated prejudices need to be cast off, letting the functions of nature show us how to live in harmony, to foster compassion to devote our attention to more important moral issues. If you seek the truth, you will eventually find it. And the truth, however elusive, will ultimately set us all free."
Tell me your thoughts on this, will ya?

Don't you just wish everybody could just finally get along and stop picking on those that are a little different than the mainstream? I know it is my wish.
I'm sick of the religous types making up their own rules as they go along, but they don't apply to them. They are just so perfect and holier than thou. That religous crap is the cause of wars, famine, abhorrent cruelties on humanity and as far as I am concerned, it is the plague of the world and should be abolished.

You just showed some scientific evidence to what I already knew had to be true. Why in the world would anyone "choose" to be gay given how they are treated in society? they are gay because they are and they are tired of being treated like they are beneath the rest of society. Who can blame them? Sad that we need all this evidence to prove that we should treat people right when all along all we really need to know is to treat people right. I really dont think it matters what causes a person to be gay. If someone needs scientific evidence then that says so much about that person. It says way more than it does about the gay person.

I'm just sick and tired of ppl (mostly religious types) saying that it is a sin and that people can choose and they have to repent, yada, yada, yada. I've known it was genetic without scientific proof, but some need proof, so I was happy to have found something to help convince people that are not yet convinced and stop blaming them for 'choosing' to be the way they were born.

I never did believe people choose to be gay. That's ridiculous. But there are many people who are going to believe that no matter what evidence you present. I'm glad to see that they are building more and more scientific evidence that you are born that way though.

Its such a huge mystery and almost an insecurity, such that many people love to hide behind the countless justifications and semi conclusions.

It has already been proven scientifically that brains are 'gendered', so gay people DO NOT have a choice. But this study is trying to explain HOW or WHY it happened.

Well, at least it gives me the idea that my brother shouldn't be blamed for him being a gay.
Stupid heredity!!

No, he should not be blamed in any way whatsoever, because it was not his choice and you should never have believed otherwise. I hope you didn't.

Hi Annie
I get angry when People start on the Gay, it is none of their Business, it is not their Life and the Gay People do not discriminate straight People for not being Gay so why can't People leave them to it and let them live their Life
It does not matter why they are living their Life's the way they are like we are
They are no different from us
Then you have the ones saying they are committing a Sin, no they are not what is it that always gets said God made us, ok he did and it means he made us the Way we are so how can it be a Sin,
Good on you for putting this here
They are People like us and they are nice People

Yep, Gabs, I agree with you. As Tee said, too. Even if it was a choice they made, it should be respected as the correct choice for them. Some here have enlightened me, too, that they did make a temporary choice to have a gay relationship, but they are not truly gay. Which is also fine with me. How someone chooses to live their life is nobody's right to judge.
We are all human and we should help each other, not succumb to a schoolyard mentality and overly criticize, belittle and try to make some feel like they are 'less' or 'abnormal'. I don't hate much, but that I do hate. The worst time of my life was in the schoolyards. Children are so cruel, heartless even. I couldn't stand that abuse. I loved learning, but the environment was so unhospitable that I actually refused to go for months and it ended me up in child jail....well, sort of.

Yes, I remember when I was young and in the dating game, that all the best looking guys always turned out to be gay. It was kinda frustrating sometimes, so I hear where you are coming from. But, remember that their brain is more similar to a female brain, so aren't we females more attentive to our looks?

To be honest Annie I'm not really sure how true this study would be in my particular case. In order, my mother had a girl, a boy and a boy. I am the middle child.
When my mother was 6 months pregnant with my little brother, she discovered my father was having an affair. I would fathom a guess (and I'm sure she would agree) that her third pregnancy was therefore more stressfull than her second. But my little brother did not turn out gay - I did. This kind of runs contrary to this study, does it not? And there was nothing overly stressful about her life when she was pregant with me (aside from... well.. being pregnant LOL.)
Even still I never understood why people dont beleive that gay people did not choose to be gay. Every gay person in the world is saying they were born like this. Why is it so hard to believe for some people?? Why would we lie??
To be honest, if being gay was a choice it would be MUCH easier to defend. People are entitled to thier choices. Hell, people choose their religions. No one questions that. So how come its ok for someone to choose to be a Christian, but its not ok for people to choose to be gay?

There are many things in life that we can not fully understand but I feel like we do just need to accept them. It may be a hard thing for many people to do but what else can you do. I don't think it is our place to judge what just is in life. I mean some things can not be controlled and is just natures way. I think that they should still be given the same treatment as anyone else.

Well, science is always asking questions and searching for the answers to those questions about humanity in particular.
Agreed, that people should treat gay people the same as heterosexuals. They are still human beings. It should NOT matter whom they are attracted to. Completely irrelevant.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm. Makes me wonder just how stress contributes. Both of my pregnancies were so stressful I should have ended up gay! lol
But seriously, I suppose stress could be a kind of trigger to bringing out latent genetic traits during gestation. That would make more sense to me from a scientific point of view.
Whatever the case, the point of your italicized paragraph in your discussion is a mantra we should all live by regardless.
Good discussion Annie. You've impressed me.....

Makes sense. And rather give a person pause to realize just how 'independant' the brain really is when it comes to regulating the survival of the speices............don't make babies in war time! They'll probably die........ lol

Yes, I did like the comment at the end of the article, so I had to republish it, as I also thought it was a good mantra for all to live by.
And the study, if anybody took the time to read it (I guess not) *sigh* exposed the pregnant females to EXTREME STRESSES during the first trimester. They were exposed to extreme vibration, constant flashing lights and extreme loud noise for the duration. Sort of like a bomb zone. They are also studying how many gay people were created from pregnant women that endured wartimes.

Hmmm well I guess my kids might turn out gay then. lol oh well I'll still love them the same if they do. I've known for a while its not a choice for them. I'm romantic asexual. I know for a fact I didn't choose that. It just is. If that can happen to me I'm sure its true for a person who is gay also. I highly doubt a straight person chose to be straight either even though I know there are some that wrongly assume everyone is bi which no we aren't.

I have to say that I never thought that being gay was a choice that people had to make during their lives. I come from a very large extended family and many of my uncles and some of my cousins are gay, for this reason, I always thought that it was something that was programmed into their being. And now, there is finally proof of it. I just hope that this means that eventually the people that give them a hard time about their sexuality will get off of their backs.

It actually says in the study that the more male children that are born the higher the odds are that some will be gay. So, with a big family, you are bound to have some gay relatives.
I have always beleived that being gay is programmed into people, that it was never a choice. Most have tried to deny it for a very long time, because we have the desire to 'fit in'. Why would anyone choose to be ostracized? But, eventually, they can no longer deny their orientation and must accept reality.

I don't think homosexuals need any kind of scientific proof. I think they are proud of what they are and they are most of the times better people than us the "normal" (I put the word "normal" ironically of course). So they have nothing to be jealous of us, in order to prove that it's not their fault for what they are.
They have fun and enjoy their lives. Why the hell would they need a scientific proof? The only homosexuals that need such a proof, are the ones that do not feel good about what they are. They are in a state of negation.

The homosexuals already know that they were born this way. It is the people that seem to erroneously chastise them and try to change them that need convincing. The wrongdoers that try to tell them to 'repent their sins of being homosexual' and then God will love you, otherwise you will go to Hell. *sigh*

You are right, medieval, good word for it. Stubborn, unbending and refuse to see the truth even when it is as plain as the nose on your face.
And those religous types have already done the torches and burning thing, when the first people, with the original earth based religion wouldn't 'convert' to their 'new' religion. That's why they call them 'bible thumpers'. If they can't convert you to their way of thinking, they can beat you down into submission.

Oh I see Well...these people are still in medieval age...what's next? Torches and people burning?
And what the...? If a homosexual is the best man/woman on the world, God will send him/her to hell because he is homosexual? I just don't believe that.

THat article is hardly convincing from the glance I took at it. But your post itself doesn't quite make sense. "Stress" during pregnancy clearly has nothing to do with genetic makeup or heriditary traits. Its an outside incident and I'm not sure that its actually true that stress can be anyway conclusively linked to homosexuality in a causal way.

Brain scans show homosexuals are "reverse" in what? "Reverse"? What does that even mean? Heriditary traits STILL aren't involved here though, so I'm not sure how that came into play.
ANd Id love to see studies that show every, or at least a large portion, of human babies that had been stressed where gay. How do you know those rats were gay? How would they know the difference in hormones made them not want to mate? Did they never mate? Or was it just different than the other rats? And where is the study about gay vs. hetero brain scans? I'd like to see that too.

I feel sorry for all who find the need to justify themselves for their destiny at being. NOT meaning any offense to anyone, but just sympathy. I for sure know that being subjected to stress during pregnancy does NOT result in gay inclined off springs, on the contrary results on hyper sensitive and hard tempered character children, but certainly not gay.

Well both my brother and sister where expected while my family was experiencing extreme stress in our lives, needless to say my mom is a very emotional and sensitive lady to begin with. Live was very pressing and difficult. Neither turned out gay, on the contrary they are very rough edged personalities and definitely heterosexual.
