What is all about Java Programming?

Hi myLotters!! I am a 2nd Year IT Student from an engineering school here in philippines. I am so happy that after all the hard times and all the sleepless nights i experience during my first 2 years i am now entering 3rd year next semester. I heard rumors from my friends in 4th year that 3rd year is really hard. It is all about Advance Java Programming . I am a little bit afraid of what will be the effect of this programming to my life. How hard it is ? How hard i can cope up with it. How hard i can overcome it. Now i am resarching different articles about java and i don't understand anything about it. Can anyone please jot down a more simple decription of what Java is ? Is it really hard ? or what ?

Java is the most beautiful language in my opinion. There are many many possibilities. If you know C++ though, it would be easy for you too. If you don't you have to catch the idea! You have to understand how java does things. Because it has a certain way of going things indeed. Don't be upset about not understanding now. At my 1st year of studies I already made an administration server with IP pools and with lists and stuff. I was clueless at the beginning of the year but I really paid attention to everything and I never missed a class. BUT DO NOT FORGET THIS: University is not for studying. It's about research. Spend your time by reading books or surfing tutorials. That would do the job.

Thanks for a very inspiring respond sir!. I will apply it on next semester. I will try my best to not only getting information from my professor and listening on them. But also, researching and analyzing different references to imrpove my programming skills. :)

I think valkerion is right because if you understand the logic of C++ is like walking in the park when you tackle Java programming. I think you can try to research the best site and experiment with your java skills.

Partially agree with valkerion. Be honest, knowing c++ is helpful for understanding java easier, but actually they are different things. Java is pure OO programing language, but c++. So if you want to 100% understand java, try to understand what's OO firstly. oh, forget to say: OO = object oriented.

Try to research some topic about java and practice the program behind your assignment. I think it is good to make your own program and logic behind it. It is hard in 3rd year to 4th year because of thesis. I don't know if you can mylot if that happen. You can consume many hours in solving your program or system.

There is a java bible - thinking in java. Read it 2-3 times, then you will know what's OO design, what's java. BTW, java is just one of application program language, but not all. I am a 8 years experience java developer, welcome any question to discuss.
