I have three dogs. Two outside dogs and one in my home. The two outside started making this horrible sound like they were choking and I realized it was coughing. They can't bark either. They've been doing this for about a week and a half now. Now my dog inside is doing the same thing and spits out like foamy stuff. I'm just wondering if anyone else has had the same thing happen to there dogs. I can't afford to take them to the vet right now. Is there anything I can give them? They are all eating fine and look okay it's just the horrible cough that scares me. Any advice? Thanks in advance.

It sounds to me like it could be kennel cough, which is a disease or illness that is commuicable between different animals. This could explain how your indoor dog contracted the same thing as your outdoor dogs have gotten. The best thing that you could do is take your dogs to the vet so that they could get some medication for their illness. However, if this is not an option at all, then I would recommend calling your local humane society and seeing if they have any recommendations for you.

Hi happymom! Me too!!!one of our dog is having this cough with phlegm-like sound in his throat with the same foamy substance coming out..he has been like this for two years in and out!..On my observation it all started when he played with one of our kittens, I don't know if he had accidentally swallowed some of the kitty hairs or have some sort of allergy with them..my other dog doesn't seem to have that kind of illness until now..so I don't know how contagious is this.. Now he is starting to cough again because we have four kitties aside from the two cats roaming around their places.. Give them water from time to time..try to give some antibiotic or decongestants..dogs react like man does on human medicine as our vet says.. Hope they get better..

I've not really had that issue on my dogs. I have two and one of them have been with me for ten years. He never had coughed at all in all those years and neither the other which has been with me for six years now. I think you should consult a Vet on this regard.

I never heard of this before but if there is foamy stuff happening I would have gotten them all to the vet already. I never heard of a dog having a cough but I'm sure it happens and it needs to get checked out as soon as possible. I surely hope that they are ok. Good Luck! Please let us know the outcome.

I urged you to take your dogs to the vet immediately. You will surely spend quite an amount but it will give a better and relaxed feeling after you've done it. Do it now so that you will not feel sorry if something worst happen to your dog.

It can be very serious disease - canine madness!!! Take your dogs to vet! This disease you can get from your dogs too! It is very common for canine madness that foam is coming from mouth so I advise you to take them to vet as soon as possible! We have a dog at home too and I know that sometimes it can cost little bit but itš a live being and is deserved to feel good!!! Imagine that they are suffering!! They cannot tell you anything! Good luck and please take them to vet!!!If it is really canine madness, it will cost your family lot more than to take your dogs to vet!!!

Hi Mom! if they eat I thing that will ok, and put them in warm place and give beef soup without onion or food to make them eat more and feel sleepy. Because the only medicine for flu is good food and rest. My dog never got flu because he had full vaccine including influenza vaccine every year, I personally belief its better to avoid than to cure and its cheaper too. Maybe you can consider to vaccine your dog every year to avoid it come back. I hope all your dog will well soon.

It sounds like a condition called kennel cough. To be honest I don't know much about it but you do need to get it treated as it can be passed on from dog to dog fairly rapidly. Look up kennel cough on the internet to see if these are the symptoms.

It sounds like kennel cough...Bordatella. If it is, it is very contagous and the doggies need antibiotics. There is a vaccine for Bordatella, but even if you dogs had it, it is possible to get it.
