What if... You woke up tomorrow and money was obsolete?

If I were rich I'd be pissed! But I'm not so I'd probably just laugh it off. Couldn't really imagine what that world would be like though. Any ideas? Your thoughts?

Interesting you should ask this question. I have a friend I asked: If you could go to a place where there was no money and that you would just get what you needed, would you go?? My friend's reply surprised me because they are always complaining about being short on money. My friend said Heavens no! To my surprise, money seems to carry more value than to purchase what one wants.Hmmm??

If money became obsolete overnight I think I would be happy because we are all in the same boat and will have to do without. People who had so much money will know what it is to not have. Which would be a good lesson for many. I also think life would be so much better for most. To many people put to much into the almighty dollar. If money became obsolete wouldn't everything then be free to get at the stores?

Aha! Now we have stumbled onto a discussion. That would be possible only maybe if the change was gradual and consensual (at least as consensual as it can be). Or if it were sudden like you literally woke up tomorrow and on the news they were saying that by tonight money would mean nothing. Then the riot theory above this post would be a much higher possibility. Like I said, if I were rich, I'd be really pissed. ^^ I often imagine it would become something like Zombieland...

I'll be shocked. I've invested a lot on a business and when i wake up one day finding that money is nothing? That would be too much for me. The business isn't that big. What i'm concerned about is the time and effort it took me to build it and make it run.

Lol I knew if I were rich I'd be pissed. I, on the other hand, have no assets whatsoever. That's why I would be able to laugh it off. But don't let this discussion faze you... Money still exists, and believe me, my friend... You are still the one laughing. And I still hope to reach that someday. Soon. Very soon. Good to hear you have a business that is running I wish you and your business more wealth! :)

Regardless of the amount of money that I have, the first response that I would have would be utter and complete shock. I mean, money, a thing that we put so much value in, being completely obsolete. That would be an entirely new strange world and something that would be completely contrary to what we are used to. That would be a complete 180 in many ways.
I think I would fear the aftershock from that. Never mind if I have the money or not. I can imagine that there will be people panicking from perhaps an entire life of saving going up in smoke. There might be a lot of mass rioting in many ways. So it would not be good times. So I think that it would be a terrifying world, as everyone would be running around in panic. You know, given how money tends to drive many aspects of our life, it is really something terrifying to think about.

Omg I haven't even thought of that. I guess it could turn dark. For some people at least.. I'd still laugh. I'm still interested in seeing that world. In my mind, it was something more positive, like free stuff from the grocery, just grab it and checkout then boom you got toilet paper. Know what I mean? Never even thought of it being riot-land. But that is a lot more possible if the change was abrupt. If the change went smoothly though.. I think the world could be a better place... Hmmm. Good response my friend, thanks! +!
