My windows need cleaning and I have garbage that needs taking out from the basement up two flights of stairs. I will pay him, or anyone else, more than one dollar to do that for me but I do not throw my money at those who just ask for it.
This has nothing to do with religion but more with 'give and take'.

Depends whether you want travel and board and lodgings included
I haven't got that many windows or that much garbage

I have no desire to know what kind of person he is and I always presume that other people are good, honest people.
My intent would be to show him that he should not expect something for nothing and advise him that it is better to offer something and be rewarded for doing it rather than just beg for it.

I don't give. I give money for charity only in trusted campaigns. I want to know my money will go for a good purpose.

IF you really wanna help people, wait for a while, take his interview, you can know much more about him, if you believe on him you can donate... just leave is not good idea.
If you don't have money, then that's another thing.
How can you trust in trusted campaigns. Will they show their bills to you?
Think again.

I don't want to talk to strangers and I'm not interested to know what their life is. Trusted campaigns are that of Unicef, Red Cross and some local one in my country.

First of all, Jesus is the SON of God.
Secondly, probably not. I will give someone money for providing me a service, or out of the charity of my heart, I generally do not, give money to someone who just asks for it.
The reasoning for this, is because many times, I have seen people take this kind of charity and not try to improve their situations.
With appreciation.

That is a perfect example of why I insist on service.
A few years ago, I got my car stuck in the deep snow, where one would usually park. Couldn't get it out myself, and the local homeless drunk people were right across the street, shovels in hand no less.
I don't mind giving my money to them, after they dig my car out, I know they are just going to go into the "strong drink" store and get a bottle. But, since they provided a service, it didn't bother me at.
I have seen, over and over again the kind of thing you mention, either personally or in stories from friends, and not so much anymore, the media.
I thank you for sharing this.
With Appreciation.

I agree sweetie. Instead I would start a business that would employ many, and feed many more. Nobody should be asking only for a dollar! If they asked for a job, or food, it would make more sense. Only problem is here it is kids, elderly, and disabled who do that. I do give at such times, and wonder if I am doing right. Most of them are trapped into a racket. :(

hello, hcvvmk
By asking a dollar that way, you feel , he's cheating with you, right?
What is the feeling in you?
politeness? why? why you need politeness? if somebody speaks, or borrow something politely then you will give money, without knowing anything, whether he's cheating on you? or he;s really in trouble.
think again

yea..of coz if we ask/need soemthing from other people, politeness is a must..you don't tell that the a person ask a dollar from you rudely and you will give it to him right..anyway I will give it to him, i considered it as a charity, whether he's cheating on me or not, that's his problem..God is not blind..he will suffer from retribution..but let us think WHAT IF he needs it? We'll be glad and happy if..i would rather be thinking what if he needs it rather than what if he's cheating me..:)

No, if he was hungry I would buy him food. It is not charity, just because you ask in the name of a deity. What would you do? Do you give money to beggars? We really do not have beggars in my community. I do donate to charities, some of them religious, some of them civic.

I have a feeling, i can feel them, i don't have money, student, how can i give money.
ya, i also like to give food, but that food is only for hours. ]]
so you feel, if some one ask in the name of deity, then you feel they are cheating on you?
Thank god, you donate.
Do you like to sponsor some one directly, if some one like to study, but they don't have money. Just because of money, they can't study.
my feelings, it's better directly help, you can see them progressing...you can see life change in front of you....you can become God of him, if he/she really deserves.
Thanks

Absolutely no... I won't give, if he asks like that... If he needs some money to eat or to fulfill his activities... he could ask money... he cannot betray lord's name for getting money... thats very very bad...

Yeah I surely would, it's only a dollar after all. It's actually a good thing that there are still people out there who can be please and satisfied with only a dollar and with this little amount, I can still brighten someone's day. Poor beggar ;(

It all will depend on the person asking. I am not rich but I also believe that you must help these that need because some where in life you will need or have received from someone. What goes around , comes around, I guess I believe in karma and do not want to mess it up.

According to me,i always judge a beggar,his/her attitudes, physical fitness to work and earn money rather than go begging. We don't have to trust them or feel sympathy completely when they know word"God"and that is not the way we should help or give alms to beggars.:)

No I wouldn't..
Why?
We as human being are capable to take care of ourselves ,so I consider wasting a day waiting some pennies to land in my hand is pretty counterproductive, don't you think?
So if I someone ask me something in the name of God...Well I will pretty much turn them down, not because I am an atheist but because of the fact they try to rip off someone's change in the name of an ideology that leaved deep marks on humanity.
Christian ,or not,my answer is still the same.
Cheers!

Hi, cookie,
By saying sorry you don't wanna hurt, soul burn. But i don't think here in mylot.com, we don't need to say sorry to everyone...because we are individual, and each individual have unique opinions and feelings, it's a discussion field too.
Ya opinions may very...differ.. we just need to say what we feel.
We can say " according to my feeling or opinion" like that way..
-thanks

As a further response :
Give a fish to a man,and he will eat for a day.Teach him how to fish, and he will have food all his life , I hope I got it right,OreoCookie3
Isn't the topic we are debating here?
Nowadays a certain quantity of help and information is available everywhere and ANYONE is capable of rising themselves from the dirt they are living, I am not saying that there are no tragedies, that would be nothing but stupid from me, but begging..that's low..
We are not in the Middle ages anymore...We are in 2010 and anyone has opportunities!
I would better sweep the streets and clean people's windows than begging! Even a old man can do small things and that's why there are certain ORGANIZATIONS THAT TAKE CARE OF THE INCAPABLE PEOPLE!
Rinzgca you are right, here in Romania the Gypsy population AS WELL as the ROMANIANS take advantage of old people ,children, or themselves to rip off people, by begging ,by stealing or worse going through self mutilation and violence ,because it's their own choice!
Am I an atheist ? Yes.
Do I believe in the RULES of the Bible? Yes.
Are we capable to make our own luck? Yes.
What's there more to say?
Cheers!

On the other hand, some beggars are just being used by syndicates to get money without working. These people would use little kids, old men and women and make them beg in the streets, or sell flowers. Other beggars make it their work to beg. With that in mind, should people still give money to fuel the greed or laziness of some people?
Just a thought.

I'm glad to see so many good people in this discussion. So I was just thinking... if I give to all these good people my paypal account, maybe they could give me at least 10 cents?
If all the myLot population is so nice, generous, and lovely, I could solve lot of problems. It will cost you 10 cents only, and you will be proud to have helped someone in needing ;)
So who wants give me $0.10? Who want buy a piece of heaven for a so cheep price?

How dare he use the name of God to get money from people? People like that do not deserve any help. In fact a lot of beggars out there should not be given money beacause sometimes they are only used by syndicates.

If I have a dollar and a homeless person approaches me I will give them a dollar. Not because they say in the name of God I just like to help them. I know times are very tough it is not my place to judge why they are on the street. But if my dollar can get them a hamburger from Mickey D's or someplace like that it is worth it to me. I don't do it for gold stars it is out of compassion that I like to help them. I feel bad when I don't have anything to give them. I am sure they hear that all of the time and they don't know if I am lying or telling them the truth. A dollar is no big deal to hand out if you have it.

hi,
marashi,
if you really like to help him, give him one dollar,
you can ask, why he need a dollar?
It seems you don't like to loose money.
what's wrong with name?
what's wrong with God's name.?
If he really loves Jesus... you feel he's cheating...
If some beggar, tell you he has pain inside stomach, then will you believe on him?
or you ask for a proof?
pain inside is just to experience.
you can not also show your pain, to others. you just feel that pain.
if you have a headache , you can not show it to other, you just feel...
thank you
