It is about to rain and I can smell it before it even pours

Oh yeah, but only right before usually. I love the smell after it rains...I go outside and inhale as much of it as I can!

hi andyvil oh yes I think its due to moisture in the air just before it rains but I can always smell it before it actually rains.nope I do not think there is anything wrong with your nose. just now am thinking I can almost smell the odor of raindrops on hot pavement on a summer's day back in my childhood. this has a most peculiar odor and if you have ever smelled that you will remember it as its like no other scent.

There is nothing wrong with your nose! The smell of approaching rain is very commonly observed. There are a number of reasons why rain has a smell and the reason that the smell precedes the rain is because the wind is moving faster than the rain itself and also because rain displaces the air it falls through, so pushes the rain scent out from the rain shower. That's how my Grandpa taught me to predict the weather, by smell. Of course, it doesn't do much good with an allergy season like this! Seriously, you can smell rain coming and you can even smell water from a creek if you're walking in the woods and looking for it. Likewise, you can smell snow and tornadoes although with tornadoes the color of the sky is more of an indicator.

i know exactly what you are talking about and i have experiences it many times through out my life. it is a very distinctive smell and you know it is going to rain. cannot explain it and if someone were to ask me to describe the smell it would be difficult but it does exist.

I would welcome rain at this point of time. It is just so hot outside right now. I am a bit fortunate that I am at work the whole time where we are airconditioned so we do not experience the temperature. With regards to the smell I guess that is pretty normal since if it starts to drizzle, the first water that hits the ground instantly evaporates giving that distinctive smell of the ground.

I've never smelled rain coming before. I can tell when its going to rain. Just feels like its going to rain. But no smell. What does it smell like, so I'll know next time I smell it.

i can smell it if it's a hot summers day and then all of a sudden the sky goes dark,and it starts to smell fresh and cool,i love that smell

Hi Andyvil! You have a very unique nose there... I only know when it is about to rain or will rain by looking at the clouds.. like there is no sun or no stars and moon at night...

As far as I am concerned, I think I do not have the ability to smeel the rain when it comes. For me, I think I just have the ability to notice that today or tomorrow will have a rain. For other ability , I think I have not got it that you have just mentioned. Maybe it is my time that to learn from you. Just thank you so much for your sharing here.

I never observed that one. I dont know how to smell the rain before it pours. Maybe you have a telepathy skills. That is why you can smell it before it pours.
