Majority of us would love to capture precious moments with friends, family and with our love ones. The technology of the camera makes it very easy, convenient and instantaneous to do record every single moment of it. Just a click from its shutter and it will make each shots already "documented". From people to landscape and just about anything, it has been a great tool that is very easy to use and accessible for everyone's hands that even a child can operate it. With that said, do you think camera these days is still considered a want or a need, already? Will appreciate your insights.

Cameras are wants, not needs. But my want has been met with a new Canon G-10. It takes great pictures, and I haven't even learned how to use all the features of the camera yet. Now, if I was a real photographer, the camera would be a need...

I think pictures are the needs and cameras are the ones. Memories will be gone in ages but pictures will not. It will bring significant things in the futures.
But it doesn't mean that you have to buy your own camera to take pictures of your memories. Camera will be still considered as a need

Hi there npadecio, I believe that camera nowadays is a want. It would only be a need if it is used for earnings like photographers or you'll be needing it on some occassions or something. It becomes a want if you would want to capture your personal memories that you would like to keep. A camera for me is both a want and a need, I capture pictures of special events and edit them. It becomes a want for me if I use it for personal purposes :)

Since a "need" are things that you NEED to stay alive, such as food, and shelter, then a camera is and always will be a want.

nonersays: Short and concise. a good point right there, nonersays. :)
everyone: Thanks for participating, I appreciate it a lot. Just another thought, the needs mentioned focused more on being objective and physical, a need for food, water, for a living, etc. But a need can also be subjective and psychological such as the need for self-esteem, right? At some point, I think it can be related, somehow. You're additional comments will be highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance. Happy mylotting. :)

It's more of like a want to me since its not necessary to have a camera, but if the person want to keep the memory last longer then it would be a need instead! Its great to have it though(:

It is a need and must if a person is having profession in photography. For others it is want and not necessary that want be fulfilled.. It depends on the person who feels it is necessary then he or she somehow will buy it if not like my father who never showed any interest in camera's at all in his life.. But camera's are doing lot of miracles these days. Even they are shooting without good lighting as well. I have camera which shoots in dark place and even without lights in the room in the night..

camera! wheater it is a filmed camera or a digital camera, what is important is it camera. Before and nowadays camera have played special attention to us people and served as very important documentary in our life wherein we could cherish and treasure photos from childhood to adulthood. Collection of pictures is very important to everyone. it contains a great purpose.

It's still a want. We classify things as need if we can't live without them. But I believe that poor people (below poverty line) can live without camera. For some who's profession is photography, definitely it is a need :)

FOR ME, IT'S MERELY A WANT.
of course, we can live without a camera.
we don't need it to stay alive (right?)
BUT AS FOR MY FRIENDS,
since they're getting the course MASS COMMUNICATION (major in PHOTOGRAPHY)
then they really need it for their studies
and future occupation.
BUT OF COURSE, not as important as air, food, water, shelter and clothes

It is important to capture special moments and preserve memories so i would say that to some degree it is a necessity. If you don't have a camera you might miss a lot of things and when you grow old you can't look back literally on what happened when you are you were younger. you can also share the photos to the next generation. that would be great.

Cameras are want back in the days but right now we are living in a tech-age world. So as for me it has become a need. There are lots of things that you can do with a camera( no matter what kind of camera). There are instances that it serves as a protection or a an evidence of a crime. So having a camera has become a need for my part.

hi bretski_kimie. I personally agree to this, I just got to have a camera with me, it's just my passion. Even if I've not earning just yet with my camera, it is always a work of art for me whenever I take pictures. I love to take whatever scenarios I'm in, the most art I can get of every single shots. Thanks for dropping by.

Considering about the economic crisis, the answer is quite obvious. There are so many people in the world starving these days cause of economic crisis and saying that a camera is a need is unjustifiable. I think I'd rather donate the money to the poor than buy a camera.

Yeah,I think for the photographers, the camera should be a need for them because they live on them. But for the most of us,it is already a want although more and more people like to take photos with friends include me.LOL.~~

i think it's a want but not need, a need is that necessary goods for our life such as foods ,clothing . a want ,only when we can eat full and wear warmth, and have the extra money to buy,but not necessary for lift. so i think camere is a want but not a need.
