My husband will retire next week at the age of 52. He wants to keep busy, wants to learn how to make webpage. He's good with computer hardware and some software. He learns fast.
We'll have a party for him and we want to give him a gift.....so,
My question is, what is the best way to learn how to make webpages and what BOOK can I buy him so he can learn it by himself??
ALSO, is there any software he needs to buy?

Sorry, hon, I don't know. I subcribed to a 'do-it-yourself' website service, that only costs me $150/yr and has unlimited pages and unlimited pictures. I wasn't willing to spend thousands of dollars for someone else to design a webpage and manage it for me, so I did my homework and research and found what I wanted and did it myself.
I do believe there are courses on this. You are in Canada like me, so you know that going back to school is actually not that costly and pretty simple. Maybe he could even study online and get his certificate faster. I don't know. Sorry, I'm no help.

Quite the contrary Annie, you are helping. So there is a website that you can go to and learn it all.....cool!! If ever you can share that website with me, Id really appreciate it. Id hate to find a site for him and its a scam.
Thanks!!!!

It isn't a website to learn how to design websites. It is a website that will sell you a website domain. You can also hire them to design it for you, but I didn't want to pay for that, so I went with the cheapest package for the 'do-it-yourself' package. I was told that it would cost me thousands of dollars to pay someone like your husband to do the 'design', then I would also have to pay the IP for hosting it monthy or annually. Instead, I am basically only paying for the hosting and domain name, and doing the design myself, with the help of the program embedded into the software that they provide. Your husband can't go there to 'learn' he can only go there to purchase a website and/or domain. I hope you know what I mean. I don't know if I was able to explain it properly.

You can try Adobe series to make your own web pages and they are user friendly, as easy as Microsoft's office.
Three essential softwares are Adobe Dreamweaver for basic web page design; Flash for adding animation; Fireworks for processing pictures which can also be done by Photoshop. Official user manuals are available.

Wow, I didnt know that. Thanks for letting me know about this. Yes Im sure user manuals will be very much needed haha. I tried to fool around with Photoshop once and gave up. He's much better than me at these things, so it should be pleasurable for him to learn it all.
Thank you very much CeraSumat!!!

if he has a mac, or if you are getting him one, it is VERY simple to make and host web pages through iWeb which comes with the iLife package... the iLife package comes free when you buy the mac directly from apple. good luck! sorry i am not sure about books though.... good luck! :)

We have pc's for now. Sounds like it might be a good idea for him to get a Mac then? I'll have to check into that then.
Thanks !!
