The sequels: To watch, or not to watch?

I was astounded the first time I watched The Matrix. It is easily one of the greatest movies of all time, a cult classic to be sure. However, when the makers of this masterpiece realized what they had, they unfortunately did what so many directors seem to do, and got greedy. The sequels are basically fan films in my opinion, and that is why whenever I come across someone who has not seen The Matrix, I tell them that when they see it they must make a choice. They can take the first film for what it is, or they can choose to go further down the rabbit hole and risk ruining their image of the storyline. What do you think?

I liked the first film best but I didnt completely hate the other two either they just were not the best of the first film meaning they could have created a better script for those last two I didn't care much for the last film of sequels because of a lot of reasons but I didnt like the ending especially, so I'd recommend that if your going to watch the matrix for the first time watch the very first film first then go from there.

I just feel that they ruined the series with the whole "Second coming of the Messiah" thing. However, one theory that actually gives a lot of credit to the series is that the human resistance is just another level of The Matrix. Basically, the machines figured out that the best way to keep prisoners docile is to make them think they have escaped. So they created a level of The Matrix that acts like "the real world" and let a small percentage of humanity think that their minds had been freed, when in true reality everyone, including Neo himself, are still in The Matrix.

I agree with both of you. The first The Matrix film, I believe was the best. The story and action are simply very rich, stimulating both to the mind and the eyes. The other have gone too thick with earthiness. I also agree with apples99 that the ending of the 3rd film was so much off; depressing at best. While the protagonists with Neo won the war, killing Neo was very costly in terms of the emotional attachments Neo established with his fans. Allowing Neo to survive would have made the ending brighter.

I loved the first Matrix, and i was completly amazed the first time i saw it. I was just mind blowing, and i´ve seen it several times and its still awesome. About the sequels, maybe its just me, but i enjoyed them alot also, they are well made and keep the story in a good line, they may not be as good as the first one, maybe cause there´s no surprise factor, but they are worth the watch definetly!. Although i may say, some of my friends did not enjoyed them... but they didnt get very well the first so that may be the reason. IMO: Yes! :)

Undoubtedly one of the best sci-fi thrillers and a must watch for any sci-fi/thriller movie fan. However, if you are not aware about computer programming it may be difficult to fully grasp the underlying concept of this movie at first go. It may require subsequent viewings. But those discoveries that you make while watching it, make it so worthwhile. No matter how many times you watch it, you will definitely feel yourself immersed into this cult classic. You will find interesting discussions on the plot of this movie on the web - if that can be true. Its resemblance to the real life. A highly recommended movie for anyone who just wants to be fascinated.

I think the first film of matrix is great than the other sequel. Maybe it can try some other sequel in the future, better script and gadget.
