My first time moving out in May, but what to do?

Since i'm under Supplemental Security Income, or SSI, i've been saving my money since last year, and next month in May 2010, i'll have about $1400 to $1500 to move out of my mom's house, and the only thing i'm looking for is a rental house; a rental apartment if there's nothing else. It's my first time, and i'm already looking through Craigslist, the Apartment Finder books that are free to take near stores, and traveling the buses finding "For Rent" signs. The thing is, i'm limited up to $450 dollars, and I got enough for the deposit.
Since the only things i'll be moving will be my plastic and cardboard boxes with my items in my room, i'm not so sure if I should get either those PODS, or a moving service like U-HAUL, Penske, etc.
It'll be the second chapter in my life, but i'm completely new to this, and I have to be frugal about this. What am I gonna do to save extra money do I don't burn it all up before i enjoy my new life by myself?
(I'm certainly gonna miss my cat a lot though...)

Do you live near a college? If you do, you might be able to ask permission if you can post a sign on the bulletin board asking if a couple of college kids would be willing to help you move. I know when my husband and I moved we had done this. We paid them 15.00 towards gas. It gave them extra spending money and they did not expect too much money.
