If you were given the chance to learn 3 languages, which would you choose?

I have always wanted to learn languages, but financial strain have stopped me from doing so. But, if given a chance to learn for free (with a very good tutor) I'd probably choose to learn the following languages:
a. Chinese
b. French
c. German
Chinese because it's the mother language of our ancestors. I think I just want to re-live the past and just not forget where we come from. Another reason would be the fact that China is an emerging market, soon it could be the next great country for business.
French, I've always been fascinated with how they talk. I think it's fun and really fancy. I don't know, I'm just interested to know it.
German, I've heard that it's very difficult to learn, which is why I want to try to learn it. Just to test my ability to adapt languages.
How about you?

Hi laydee.
First of all good to see that your discussion is still active even after three years. And talking about the languages, I already know so many languages. But I still want to learn new ones. Among the languages that I know are English, Hindi (India), Telugu (India), Bengali (Indian) and Sanskrit (India). Among the languages that I wanted to learn, I recently had the opportunity to learn French. And the other two languages that I would love to learn would be Marathi (India) and German. I hope I will get chance in sometime future may be to complete my collection. Anyways have a nice day ...

Indeed it's elating to see that my topic is still active all these years. I'm glad too that people still look into the topic and would care to respond.
I didn't know India has a lot of different languages, do they have differences? Because here in my country, there's a lot of dialects but there are similarities (some) so it's easier to learn to understand or speak them.
I guess a lot of people are really targeting German these days and French too, but I don't really see when I could use French and German. Why did you have opportunity to learn French? From work? How bout German, why would you want to learn it?
Thanks for the response, have a great mylot experience ahead!

Hi laydee.
Well India has like more than 50 different languages. Though few languages are similar but there are languages that are totally different from each other. And I got this opportunity to learn French at my college where we were offered this additional course. And I learn these languages out of hobby. Anyways have a nice day ...

Wow! I didn't expect to see those 3 together! I already speak English and Spanish, so I guess I would add American Sign Language, Gaelic, because a lot of my family came from Ireland, and Gypsy because it is supposed to be a secret language, but my grandfather was part Gypsy, from India, so maybe I could get someone to teach me. I have several others I would like to learn, but these would be the 1st three. Wouldn't it be incredible if one person could learn all the languages of the world? With my luck, if I did, we would have an alien takeover the next day and I would have to start over!

Of the three languages mentioned here, there is no problem for me to speak my mother tongue, Chinese. Apart from my native language and English, I think that I will consider learning Japanese, Korean, German. My reason for this is that there are a lot of foreign companies in our country from these three countries. If I knew them, it would enable me to find a job in one of the foreign companies. That would be great. By the way, ladyee, I did not know your mother tongue is Chinese and you are overseas Chinese. Have you ever come back to China for a visit about which province your ancestors came from? With the open policy and fast development of China, more and more overseas Chinese are coming back for their ancesters' native place. Welcome back to China for a visit. Enjoy yourself, ladyee.

As for your reply, after learning Han yu, I am planning to learn German or Korean too. They say that German is a tough language to learn though, but I sure hope we can make it! hehehehe.. all we need now is the money!

Hi,
First language would be Mandarin p since my husband is a Malaysian Chinese. Like you said, China's development is emerging and soon, Mandarin would widely spoken like the English language.
Second language would be French. To me it's a beautiful language to speak and sounds very sexy.
Third language is to learn to speak Spanish. I find the country is beautiful, and some of the words in my mother tongue language are actually spanish!

True about Chinese (Mandarin) that's why I'm learning it now. As for French, indeed it's a sexy language. But I wonder when I could apply it if ever I'm going to learn it. Actually Malaysian and Filipino (my mother tongue) has similarities and both have similarities with Spanish because we were once colonized by Spain.
Thanks for the response, have a great mylot experience aheaD!

Well, I speak English. I took some Spanish classes in high school and college. Its been a few years since I had that so I don't remember it. I would like to relearn it because I feel like its one of the most common languages spoken in the world. I'd also like to learn French or Italian because I think they are pretty languages.

I have always wanted to be able to speak Spanish fluently. I also live in Texas so Spanish would be very useful. I would also love to learn French and Italian so I would be able to speak and understand the language when traveling to France and Italy, which I hope to do someday.

Hi there, I'm sorry to sound so naive, but why is Spanish useful in Texas?
Anyhow, in my country, our mother tongue sounds like Spanish too and I believed during my parent's time, they were required to take up some Spanish classes or units.
Thanks for the response, have a great mylot experience ahead!

Well, for me I can afford to study foreign languanges.. and I have studied Japanese a bit and I want to improve it by translating my japanese written comic..it will be a pleasure for me to be able to translate it but I need some free time to do that and in near future I will learn French. But unfortunately, I have no interest in studying Chinese because I can't listen well and I don't like the way (the tone) of their voices when speaking. Not only they were fast but their tone really annoyed as well..no offense.

I would choose:
German, because my grandma is from Germany.
Spanish, because it could definitely be put to use.
Not sure of a third one, maybe either Latin or Greek.

Well, my answer to this question is:
1.Chinese
2.English
3.French
The reasons are as follows:
I think Chinese is the most beautiful language in the world. Not only because its my mother tongue, but also because it is so closely related to Chinese culture.Calligraphy is one of the most important arts in Chinese culture and there are lots of calligraphy experts in Chinese history. Their handwritings are so beautiful and I admire them very much.
English is the most widely used language in the world and most of the scientific books or materials are written in English. It's a must in the current world if you want to achieve something in scientific field. And more importantly, we can communicate with lots of foreign people with English.
As to French, I think its pronunciation and accent are fairly beautiful and this language sounds so romantic.

If given a chance to learn foreign languages I prefer to learn the following:
1. Korean-there are so many Korean now visiting the country-Philippines.
2. Japan- my two sons are working in Japan I would love to talk with them in Japanese in the web.
3. Chinese Mandarin-this is basic due to the presence of many Chinese businessmen in the Philippines.

If I had given a chance, so I would like to learn the following three languages.
1)Arabic 2)Chiness 3)german
This is because that Arabic is spoken in more than 20 countries and chiness is spoken by more than 1.5 Billion people and german is therefor that I have planned to study in future in Germany.
