Do you think traveling is a luxury or a need?

I feel that vacations (even if they are near my hometown, are part of my health. I call them luxuries because I have to work extra to get the money to have them. But I feel I´d be in a bad shape if I didn´t charge my batteries once a year. How do you feel about vacations? Do you need them? Do you feel better after an outing, even if it´s a weekend? By the way I was invited out for the weekend. I´ll take my camera but I can´t upload the pictures until I fix my computer. Happy weekend!

Hm, it's a luxury, but it's a luxury that I really, really like and want. Nice to read about the Great Wall of China, but I'd actually like to see it one day!

Don´t we all, dawn! But I traveled little while the children were growing. It seemed that our money disappeared in thin air. And we had a small family with only two daughters! When I read about people that have 10, I just can´t visualise it. Imagine Dearra´s problems multiplied by 10! Take care!

I have a dear friends who has 4 children (not children anymore either, the oldest is 46) who says once in a while "I hate children!". I know what she means.

Hi Marg, For me it's not a luxury it's a need...a treat...a break. We deserve something for ourselves after all the hardworks. of course, we need to prioritize our expenses and maybe travels/vacation is not a priority for some but for me it maybe expensive and you need to save for it...it's a break. A SELF-CARE, so we can be consistently productive. a body maintenance!

That´s exactly my line of thought, my friend! And it doesn´t have to be THAT expensive if you study a bit on how to do it to suit your purse. I earn enough money online to have nice vacaiones once a year. And I never say no when someone invites me somewhere for the weekend. Take crae!

I think it's a luxury, but maybe it's one of those luxuries that I "need." I feel like if I never traveled I would go a bit crazy in this place I'm at now, as much as I do love it. It also helps keep my brain active, seeing and experiencing new things!

I think it is luxury sometimes. You cannot travel if you not have any savings and extra funds for it. It is a need sometimes a call for the work to have travel for the meeting as part of your job. But if not it is a luxury and a break time from your hard days work in office. I really love traveling too , it can help you feel comfortable from tiredness.

I think it much depends on how you spend your money. I live frugally but my online earnings are all saved to have wonderful vacations once a year.

For me traveling is more of a luxury, though we need it sometime in a year, a way for us to relax and unwind but if the budget isn't sufficient enough then I would rather stay at home to rest. Or maybe go to the nearby beach that I need not spend too much money.I have to consider first my budget before deciding to travel...:)

I think a nearby beach is enough travel for many people. I travel with the money I earn online. It´s enough for nice vacations once a year. Take care!

I think travelling to have a vacation is both a luxury and a need. Luxury because as you said, you have to work extra money to have it and not everybody can have a far away vacation. It is also a need to have a break from the busy life in order to recharge your batteries as you have mentioned. Its a good way to contemplate and think about the many things you have done in your work, family, and spriritual life. Some people call that vacation, a retreat. However, one can have a vacation without travelling far and spending too much. I guess all we have to do is be creative.

I love travelling, and when I don't have a lot of money to spend, I usually try to travel anyway. I don't mind using the budget airlines, travelling several hours on a bus or staying at a crowded hostel where 15 people have to use the same bathroom. As long as I get the chance to travel and visit another country I am happy Sometimes I choose to stay in my own country. There are many islands in my country and I find it interesting to explore new places. Even if I am only going away for a weekend, and I feel very happy when I return and it gives me lots of new energy. I prefer to spend my money on travelling instead of buying expensive things. I could live without travelling if I really had to, but I know I would really, really miss it.

I feel the same way as you do, except that at my age I want a bathroom for myself. But I can manage with my online earnings and some additional savings I make during the year. They aare as naive as putting in a piggybank the biggest coins in our currency. It does help.

Traveling can be for both pleasure and business. People who are into marketing travel most of the time and its part of their business. Big business people also travel. But at the same time traveling for pleasure is also there. Its common during vacations kids going for a long tour with their parents. I too love travelling. But have had very little chance though.

This would have to depend on my reasons for traveling. If i had a job that required me to travel, then travel would definitely be considered a need. For the the most part i consider travel to be a luxury. It should be something we look forward to and have happy thoughts in doing. I never like to travel any distance without my camera. you never know when your travels eill give you the perfect photo op.

As far as I am concerned, I think travelling is a need for me , not a luxury.I think for me, I admire those people who usually go travelling all the year around, which they must have enjoyed their life so much. For me, I sometimes will go out for a travelling, which I think it a feast of my life. With the travelling, I can relax myself fully. Then I can a lot get a lot of experience from my travelling.

Travelling is a need for me too, but I do it only once or twice a year. I also need to be at home, in my own nest. Besides, I need money to travel and at the moment I earn money for a 2 or 3 week vacation each year, depending where it is.

Travelling is a luxury if we can't afford it or if it would somehow affect our work or the people we love. Travelling is a necessity, a reward, a treat for people who has the budget to travel and they do it cause they have worked so hard and relaxing now becomes a necessity. I think God gives us our wishes, blesses with lot of opportunities so that we can have to chance to achieve what we dream of.Not to look at how much extra we have in our bank account but actually feel exhausted and burnt out. (^_^)

For me traveling is a need most of the time but its fun when things are planned in advance. If things are planned we can enjoy otherwise its just waiting for the travel to finish and get out of that. I prefer not to travel unless its absolute necessity. be happy :)

traveling to me is fun whether for luxury or a need because in both case i get to experience new things but for the question i believe is individual differences and opinion that will determine if you can base your option on one category.

I haven't been out of town since a year come May. I would love to take one, but I have neither money nor the ability to get away. And I can't take off work or I won't get paid (lousy job.)

i feel that traveling is definitely a need... i feel that it is in man to naturally work hard. we work hard to get food, to buy clothes, to provide for the family with basic necessities and etc. it too is so with travel. to be able to travel is like a way for one to rejuvenate the soul. its like being cooped up a four walled room for days and days till you cant take it anymore that you just have to get out of there and experience things. and thereby stepping out of that four walled room gives you a feeling of being lighter than what you felt while being stuck in a rut in a room. the travel doesnt have to be very far. it could be right next door or to the mall or a 30 min. drive to somewhere you feel at peace.

I have been to several awesome places with my online earnings as traveling is not on my budget. This year, as I had more expenses due to a shoulder surgery, I am going nearer. It still is wonderful. I´ll go to the south of Chile, my country. They have hot spring there which are very good for my shoulder. They will not be as expensive as they could be as I will be in an apartment with kitchen and will cook most of the time. And I´ll have lots of fun.

To u i think it's something u need & enjoy for me u know i don't enjoy traveling & i don't need it. I think it is a luxury when people get to go & trips. I know i don't get out as much as i should because i do feel better when i do but it's so easy to stay home when u feel bad. Glad u have a chance to go somewhere this weekend, hope u enjoy yourself. hugs, jo

I like it on their rears. I did have a lovely time. I rested, slept, was served breakfast in bed, saw 3 movies ( one was older than both of us put together)and won about $6 at poker after playing all night on Saturday. My friend made me take a walk everyday so I did. I hope I learn to do it by myself. I´m sure it would help my health. As soon as I learn how to upload the pictures from my camera, I´ll show some beautiful pictures of the lake.

You need a started for your car, Jo! I´m sure once you get going, you´ll get the knack of it. You say it yourself: you feel better. We are going to a lake near Santiago. It´s an artificial lake and the surroundings are awesome. I can´t upload the pictures because my grandson (Felipe, 15)made me a new computer from parts but gor bored in the middle of the job. And some days ago, his little brother (Diego, 10) came over and now my computer has no sound. I won´t say what I think of all this.

For us any kind of travelling is a definite luxury because we cannot afford too much of it! Having said that, I agree that holidays benefit our mental and physical well being. We all need a break form routine and a compete rest is needed on a regular basis in order to recharge those batteries!

I agree it can be difficult sometimes in life. I could not travel much when we were raising our children. All our spare money had a way of making a disappearence act.. But we did manage to picnic and camp. It was an expense of some extra gas, but it was worth it. And there are always beautiful places to go during the day. My father, a wise man, took us to a nearby hill when we were little. We went for Sunday morning. We brought our knapsacks, canteens and my father made it as if we were climbing the Everest. I remember almost 60 years later the wonderful taste of the lukewarm water. We could not drink too much: we must save the water just in case. We came back home dirty and happy. My mom was happy too as we did not bother her while she was preparing the Sunday meal. Take care!

I think that vacations are a necessity and a luxury at the same time. Everyone needs to relax at some point in life but you don't always have to go to some extravagant and luxurious place to relax. I always feel better after an outing to some small place, like a little cottage or something. Happy Weekend to you too.

The place you go and what are your lodgings depend on many things as I have discovered. My eldest daughter, aged 46, went for the Holidays with her 3 children to be 1 month in the tropical jungle of Bolivia. I could not do it at my age. As we grow old, we get more health problems. I feel I was very adventurous when I went 2 years ago aboard a sailboat to see some parts of the Caribbean. It was not a cruise, I was part of the crew of a small ship. I was 63 then and with a back surgery among other things. But you can´t imagine the beauty of the flying fish and the dolphins playing by our boat.
