Side effects.....on any pills.

Have you noticed that more than 50% of the pharmaceutical products have side effects listed on their "instructions"? I'm not the person that jumps for a pill everytime I got a pain,I rather have a tea,but once in a while a need a pill too. What it worries me are those side effects listed on the paper that comes with the pills.More ridiculous are the commercials on TV about these pharmaceutical products, with that ambience music on the background, presenting how "miraculous" is the medicine and how many side effects it has in the same time. For me is frustrating how you can buy something to help you get healthy ....in one hand while in the other hand you're holding poison. I might be misunderstood or a little bit to far,but what "taking a pill" mean exactly, besides the fact that you're "playing poker" with the rest of your health?

It's frustrating that there are side-effects with almost every person, and then of course there are risks of side effects of having several medications at once for people like myself...but the really frustrating thing is the doctor I go to does not seem to care and she pretty much ignores what I have to say.

Yes, the side-effects of prescription medications do concern me and I am forever questioning my doctor about them. Unfortunately, if you have certain conditions, you dont really have a good alternative but, I feel sure that we are often taking one pill to counteract the negative effects of another... however, the side effects may well be minor in comparision to the condition we were originally prescribed for and a good doctor will ensure that we are regularly monitored to keep these things in check.

Well that is the risk we have been taking since immemorial or since they invented pharmaceutical healing.I say we just weight the advantages against the risks. I am glad that herbal medicine is earning wide acceptance now and that pharmaceatical companies are trying to manufacture pills that are all herbs in composition. (^_^)

I am concerned about paracetamol, a very common non prescription medicine. I am actually allergic to it, as many people are if you ever check out an emergency room! However, my wife takes it all the time, for every little ailment. As this is about side effects, has anyone considered what might be the side effect of taking paracetamol almost daily for thirty years? My wife suffered from Congestive heart disease and had a surgical removal of the pericardium about two years ago. The unusual thing was her relatively young age for this type of complaint. I don't know if paracetamol caused it but I wouldn't be surprised if it had serious long term effects that we don't know about, or are not told about!
