I was a pig at Farrell's

As somebody reminded me on here today, one of the fun places when I was growing up was Farrell's ice cream parlor. They used to have these huge party ice cream bowls called zoos with 20 some odd flavors of ice cream in them and I don't remember how many toppings. And they carried them on a pallet and ran through the restaurant making all kinds of noise with horns and drums. Or you could have a concoction called a trough that had maybe 12 scoops, I don't remember. If you ate one, they would give you a ribbon that said "I made a pig of myself at Farrell's". I still have mine somewhere in a box. I had a collection of the little plastic animals that they put on the ice cream sundaes, but my brother gave them all away to a friend. Farrell's went out of business in the 80's, but I hear they are coming back. Hope it works out. It was a fun place!

I used to visit this store where they would make home made ice cream and kind of knew when to be there so I could get fresh ice cream LOL, would also make my own too at home from fresh drinks.

Wow that was nostalgic(did I use the word right?) Anyway I'm sure that Farrell's was a good place for kids. I'm not a fan of Ice creams but I do eat it and like it. I just cannot handle eating too many ice creams

Do you want it with cones or you will provide your own cup?

I remember Farrells! They were fun. They also had a sub sandwich called a Gastro-something. And they did the carry it in on a pallet thing if you ordered a whole one. We always just ordered a "mini-Gastro" for the two of us, but once they got it wrong and delivered the big lollapalooza with all the fanfare. Embarrassing! Especially when we had to send it back. But that was one goooood sandwich! Thanks for the memories.

If you're ever out this way, there's one near Six Flags (about 10 minutes east of it). It's hidden away in the hills, and a lot of people still don't know about it (I don't know how long it's been there). It's attached to a Mountainasia (a mini golf course/go kart/arcade fun place). It's not as old fashion nostalgic as I remember Farrells to be like, but hey, it's a Farrells!
Now when I was a kid, my parents didn't take us to Farrell's (perhaps they didn't really know about it) . . . and after my teens I only went there a couple times. There was one right across from us at my first "real" job . . . so on occasion we would get lunch from Farrells. They had a yummy reubens sandwich . . . and I remember their criss cross fries! When I think of Farrells, I think of this dumb "date" I had there. That's another discussion!! Oh and I remember those giant drums they'd beat while singing the happy birthdays!
So if you're ever out this way and can get to Farrells, you can make a pig of yourself again - hee hee!!!!

ah good old Magic Mountain...
We took the son of one of my mom's friends to Farrell's. The kid wouldn't eat his lunch because we had ordered him a cheeseburger instead of a hamburger. Fun, fun...

Something really needs to be done about those huge Yank portions! Only joking my friend. You are quite right, Farrell's does seem like a fun place to be.
Can I come if a new one opens in your area?

Absolutely, but we're going to have to share the trough! I don't think I can do one by myself any more!

I remember going to someplace like that, when I lived in California as a Navy wife, but I do not recall the name. Farrell's is not ringing a bell. We only went once that I remember. I know those kinds of memories are fun.

Here in Minnesota we have Bridgemens and they had the same thing....called a Lalapaloosa! Twelve scoops and if you could eat the whole thing it was free I believe....they don't have their ice cream stores anymore....but still sell their ice cream and it's very very good!

Except maybe parents who had an aversion to noise!
