Pork cheese anyone? / myLot

My wife is a Muslim who doesn't eat pork. After moving to Europe, she is discovering many new food products. Almost daily, she asks me if this or that contains pork. One day she asked if a cheese came from a pig. Well, I thought, why not? Or, perhaps there is such a thing. Do you know of a pork cheese? Could this be the next food fashion to hit the shelves. Is it an untapped business opportunity just waiting to be exploited? Pork cheese is not that unreasonable is it? We already get many more products from a pig than any other domestic animal so why not milk, butter and cheese. Well, I know female pigs can be a little temperamental, but so are many goats for that matter. There must be another reason why we don't see pork cheese on our super market shelves. Anyone have an opinion on this? Would you eat pork cheese? Do you want to go into business...

Some processed cheese slices contain gelatin, which is made from pork. I know this because I follow a kosher style diet, and I refuse to eat pork, shellfish, etc. In Canada we have a company called Kraft, and they make a lot of processed things, among which is cheese slices. The ingredients list has gelatin on it.

I don't know it before today. It's not a problem to me, but it would be a big issue to other consumers. I think at the case the supermarket should have a information notice about the products they are selling. so customers would not mistakenly buy these things. also the law should be set up about the ingrediets of cheese so all consumers right would be protected.

Thank you genki_7 for that valuable information. I have seen Kraft cheese in tins before. Now I know how they achieve the plastic texture! I wouldn't eat this anyway. But should cheese contain anything other than milk and preservatives? In Europe we have so many things allowed in cheese but I haven't seen gelatin before.
