It's easier to be mediocre than extraordinary...

This goes for a lot of things. It always IS easier to be part of the crowd and just fit in, and feel part of something greater, than be something different. It's also easier to just accept normal life than go on a journey and have to face your fears, like frodo in lord of the rings. But what I was thinking of specifically was how it's easier to be just another ignorant bad kid than be a smart kid. And it's true. It's SO much easier to live out your life as being mediocre in school and having a C average say, than being the kid whose had A's his whole life. Because then you have no expectations of you. You can just live out life mindlessly and have fun with friends, with things, and not have a care in the world. And you can think of yourself as part of a group of people that are just like you and have comfort in that. But being smart? No, it's not that much fun. Yes there are advantages, but oftentimes people even hate you for being smart and make fun of you for it. Plus not to mention all the stress and pressure that comes with it. Suddenly everyone has high expectations of you. You have to go to a really good school, you have to keep up those grades, you can't be reckless. If you're a bad student, only place you can go is up. You can start with D or F grades and through hard work get A's and beat out other smart kids, AND you get praised for it. If you have great grades and suddenly don't get a good job after college and end up working in McDonalds you get looked down so much, and it would kill you to know how much you've lost and regret how far you've fallen. So you're constantly worrying about making sure that never happens. So being successful IS harder than not being successful sometimes. Yes, it definitely has its advantages, I'm not saying it doesnt. It STILL is very good and important, and I am so fortunate to be one of those smart kids and wouldn't trade it, but sometimes I do not relish all the pressure put on me.

Being mediocre takes no talent or effort. Anyone can achieve this state of mind. Being extraordinary takes what heart and soul you put i n it. The rewards are worth the climb to rise from mediocrity to the extraordinary. Achieving greatness is worth everything. As long as you try you can never fail.

For me, the opposite was true in day-to-day school life. I was always a misfit-loner, had a fairly unique sense of fashion, and got A's and B's without putting much effort in my work. For a long time, I'd have killed to be "normal." I was often the subject of clique gossip (how I was always alone, and how my art class thing was hanging out in the hallway, how things just seemed to happen for me etc). I was just so awkward.

well tats wat im saying. its easier to be the same as everyone else. no one notices you, no one talks. if you're different, it IS harder. n sumtimes I wanntt to be one of those girls tat wears the uggs and the abercrombie hoodies and fits in perfectly. it seems so easy. but at the same time i LIKE being different. I bet those conformists sumtimes wish they were brave enough to stand out. like they say "people want what they don't have". n I'm sorry it worked out tat way for u, but u seem pretty cool. :) I'm kinda like tat, i dress in my own fashion, I get good grades n i love art. I'm not completeely alone. but im kinda just in the background in most classes n forgotten or in one class im even kinda ignored by sum ppl. so its not tat bad, but ill never be one of those popular people.

Very true. It takes effort and hard work to be extra ordinary while it needs no such sacrifice to remain mediocre. Most of us prefer an easy life with no challenges. we prefer to stay behind the screen rather than trying to hold the limelight. This tendency of pessimissm in everything unlitmately makes us what we are. We tend to become quick losers in life. Its always a pleasure to overcome a challenge.

hie wigima, well its true in a way. that is how we all view life through our eye 'glasses' be it the black and white eye glasses or the rainbow eye glasses or the rose tinted eye glasses. we have to decide, be firm and in control on how we want our life to flow on our journey of life on this planet earth. once we decide to do our best, we set out to do our best. our best may not be the best for others.to others, we are mediocre or just plain. to us is the best we can do for ourselves , given the availabe resources in time, effort, energy, money, environment and support . each one of us is unique and have different talents and gifts. some of us may not be aware of our talents and hidden gift or gifts. i have seen school children in their kintergarten and primary school days, they are just average or slightly below average. then when they are in secondary schools, they improve and become bright stars. they are what we called late bloomers.some become famous professionals, actresses, artists, surgeons, etc. my philosophy in life is be the best of what we are. if i am a student, i will do my best in class, pay attention, do my homework etc. if i am an employee, i will likewise do my best, work hard at my job, learn all the ropes of my job, obey the rules and job protocols and obedient to my superiors within rules and limits. at home be a good daughter, wife, mother etc. i want to strive to do my best and try to live without regrets and fulfilled my needs and be a good friend to myself, my family, relatives and friends. in a nutshell, this is what i desire to be the best i am. i read somewhere, eventhough one is a weed growing on the roadside, be the best weed blowing on the roadside in the sun or rain. for the next day or so, it will wither and fall of. thus put our best leg forward and live a meaningful and tresured life. life is not measured by the breaths we have taken but by the wonderful and amazing moments that take our breaths away.these are my thoughts. have a great weekend, wagiman.

Yeah, As far as I am concerned, I think I agree with you that it is easier to be mediocre than extraordinary in our daily life. It is reported that many many people are trying their best to make themselves extraordinary. But in return, they just try their best to be a normal man in the end. For me, I think maybe it will be so good to be a normal man ,with a mediocre work, which can help you live a happy life. I think it is OK. It is no use pursuing the extraordinary life. It may belongs to the extraordinary ones.
